RE: would you date...an alpha woman?

Alpha women don’t even like alpha women.

RE: Have you ever dated outside of your race? If so, what differences did you encounter (if any)?

It was some time ago, and during a “growing pains” chapter of my life. I had just nailed a great job at a prestigious hospital. I met a woman my own age from Nairobi, Kenya. She was exotically gorgeous. We went night-clubbing, to parties, and lots of sight-seeing. Our dating did not ‘turn heads’, this was Portland, near the centennial …pretty much ahead of its time-anything goes. She had a rare elegance about her, but above all else, she was gentle and kind.

RE: Which do you value more…World peace or Peace of Mind?

Thanks lovie…have a great rest of our week. (I like it that you embrace Life and have questions and views. It’s a good thing.)teddybear

RE: Which do you value more…World peace or Peace of Mind?

see The Tao…(thanks to YOU a couple of years ago, I personally have a much better understanding of Tao than I did…)handshake

RE: Which do you value more…World peace or Peace of Mind?

At first I thought this would be tough to answer/ decide, but it’s not, actually. The world will never be at peace. It never has and never will. We deal in realities, not dreams, beautiful and sensible as they may be. And, if we can’t be comfortable with ourselves, have “peace of mind” as you state, then what good would we be in either world? Right?professor

RE: Some advice please.....

I adamantly ask that you look into other methods. There are SO many reasons. Allow me to give a couple of examples: Prednisone is used for inflammatory issues, and it “works”, but the side effects are very, very negative…(I can’t take it; when it was prescribed to me it nearly killed me and the physicians had to find another drug..) Warfarin (Coumadin) has such drastic side effects many physicians don’t like it that it even exists— these two medications I’ve mentioned need such close supervision because 1. Prednisone has to be started slowly (titrated) and then terminated slowly, or the patient will have functional AND life-threatening complications. I am NOT giving you any medical advice, just my own experiences. 2. Warfarin levels are difficult to sagely establish, and alter without notice frequently, so getting a therapeutic dose can be difficult. Botox is POISON (botulism). That should be enough INFORMATION. Please be careful.

RE: Some advice please.....

It’s seldom wise to attempt altering Mother Nature.

Thanks lovie— we’re celebrating Earth Day/ Earth Week right now, and a shell and glass float foraging. Sand-castle building, dune-buggy riding, kite-flying,, bonfires, such a neat place to live…hug

RE: Highlights of your place and or travels (if any)

The southern Oregon coast is said to have the most beautiful beaches in the world. The forests and hills/mountains literally sweep down to the coastline, giving a multi-faceted wilderness area with few rivals. And the grooviest thing of all? I LIVE here!applause

RE: Intelligent world VS dumb world.

It’s more likely true than not. This value, this motto, philosophy, as it were, scans a wide spectrum of religion, education, and thought:
“To whom much is given, much will be required”. So, the intelligent men and women are the ones who tend to be socially and financially successful. HOWEVER, it’s not an easy hat trick to stay “in the game”, much less on top of one’s game. The athletic company NIKE said it best: “There is no finish line”. So, although one would think an intelligent person lives the life of enviable circumstances, the work it often takes to get there, maintain there, and stay there, is exponentially daunting. It’s easier, in my belief, to be
“dumb”, as you put it, or to “play dumb” (a coward’s way of shirking and/or shifting responsibility.) I recognize there are exceptions, but I believe that what I’ve seen, observed, is often the case. Fair enough?

Look, it’s not a person’s fault if they don’t have the capacity to be a CEO, doctor, teacher, nurse, etc…what counts is the drive to put in a fair days’ work for a fair days’ pay. It doesn’t mean they’re “dumb”. In all things, we must be fair. My best friend, God rest his soul, was a school custodian. He certainly was a good man, and not at all unintelligent. He just didn’t have the capacity for college. You know what makes someone truly “dumb”? Someone who can, but won’t. And that goes for any vocation.

Hello world there’s a whole lot a singin’

How about some light-hearted and friendly talk for awhile? Put all those negatives on the back burner, all those cynical smarmy retorts, just for today? I’m seeing so much sour rhetoric lately. Come on guys, let’s have a nice time here, at least for now. What do you say?

RE: Mandela Affected Movies

”Deliverance” has dropped multiple scenes and some dialogue. Sometimes you can ask for an “unabridged” copy if buying from the internet.

RE: Please state your psychological emergency!

I take it you’re not aware of the physicians who treated hysteria during the Victorian era. Although it was primarily female clientele, there were some (usually undocumented, or carefully worded) cases of the same “condition” and subsequent “treatment” in male clientele. Totally legal, too, but a form of what would otherwise be illegal. A Victorian doctor was in a position to become very, very rich.

RE: Please state your psychological emergency!

get ahold of yourself…

RE: believe tis

could you explain this, Pedro? I don’t understand in the format you are using…

RE: Please state your psychological emergency!

So, are you wanting to treat male hysteria?

RE: Looking for housewarming gift ideas.

Have you seen those (usually handled) baskets made of colorful material, twisted into soft ropes and woven like their reed counterparts? I got a set of two for some friends’ wedding. Later I visited— they had them by their fireplace, with kindling in them. It looked like a decorating magazine layout. One of the better presents I’ve given. My sister and brother- in- law were given a box of spices, teas, marinades, jars of pesto, bruschetta, jams, all the little kitchen “ extras” we forget to treat ourselves to. It was the “ hit” of the reception. By the way, someone once told me it was in bad form to unwrap wedding gifts at the reception; that this should be done in private. Our family always opened them at reception. Is there an etiquette rule regarding this?teddybear

RE: Looking for housewarming gift ideas.

Of course this is something to think about. Here’s my ‘theory’ - those little things many of us like, but don’t buy (in favor of higher priorities, AND, money is often short for a lot of us) are more appreciated than not, as we want them, and I think the giving of them outweighs worrying whether the person takes offense. Now, to validate you a little— if a friend who knows that I no longer live a ranch life among cattle were to give me a tin of Bag Balm as a gift, I think I’d be a little rattled…get the difference?

RE: Looking for housewarming gift ideas.

I guess any penny would do in favor of no penny. Here, I’ll try to explain: some legends, folk/old wives’ tales say that giving someone a knife or knives is “bad luck”, as knives can do harm. So, to “break this spell/ curse” the recipient gives the giver a penny, so that the knives are now technically a “ purchase”, rather than a gift. I saw this happen at least two times. (I’m of Appalachian/ Scot ancestry). You’ll find American folklore chock full of these adages and beliefs.

RE: When the forum is boring and not fun. Post here to complain.

Begin a groovy one, or two…then we’ll jump in. In the meantime, here’s an old joke:

How many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb?

..only one. ( But the lightbulb has to WANT to change…)laugh

This one is WAY good.. Beef Wellington in Puff/Phyllo

Yes, I know. I was talking about slow-cooker roasts. Beef Wellington can’t be properly made in a slow cooker, and it must be top-grade standing rib for best results.thumbs up

RE: Looking for housewarming gift ideas.

how funny— I grew up with grandparents and a bevy of great aunts, etc…and this adage came up more than once: If giving knives as a wedding gift, the bride gives you a shiny new penny. That breaks the spell, as she has now “bought” the knives.

RE: Looking for housewarming gift ideas.

the $40.00 is for the new plug- ins, etc…plus coffee…the books could be second-hand.

RE: Looking for housewarming gift ideas.

Many people like the plug-in deodorizers ( Glade, Febreeze) but they’re rather expensive, as small items go. Maybe get the starter pack ( plug-in plus one insert) and a pack of 3 or 5 additional inserts. Try to find out what scent they might like— otherwise, lavender or “ fresh linen” are usually good choices. (About $20.00). That’s the first idea. Next, an unusual cookbook, such as “ The Mensch Chef”, or “The Shaker Kitchen [ Jeffrey S. Paige ], last, a useable fruit wicker bowl/basket with these three items, plus a pack of gourmet coffee. It’ll do the trick…about $40.00 for all, which is about right for a gift of this genre. handshake

RE: What about you needs the most upgrade (physically) ?

* “ill”, not “I’ll”. oopsie…cool

RE: What about you needs the most upgrade (physically) ?

Depends. You aren’t required to read it. You just love to passive-aggressively put others down, stand back, and proclaim you’ve done nothing of the kind. Ordinarily, I would be very equitable, and parse this academically. However, reading some of your responses to others, and the FOURTEEN private emails I’ve received concerning your hateful, hostile and vituperative rhetoric, it’s crystal clear that you choose to be exponentially mean. What a waste of what could be a more positive, productive approach. Still, I refuse to condemn you…and this Easter, you are added to my church community’s prayer list. For you are very I’ll in this continuity of bashing people who initially tried to be your friend. Hope you find some peace. Get some rest…

RE: In this big universe how intelligent are humans?

The jury has long been out on how much of our brain (cognitive ability, recall, problem-solving, etc…) we actually use. For a long time, it was academically believed and taught that it was about 10%. That’s way off— currently some psychiatrists believe many people use nearly 100% of their overall brain power, and even the laziest (yes, it’s largely about being lazy..) people probably use 35%. To answer your question, first, understand that I’m very open- minded regarding the possibility of other intelligent life in The Universe. So, there’s likely beings out there who, if aware of us, would regard us as inconsequential, if at all.
