Yes. Like a thrift store. Looks like a dump, but if you dig around you’ll find treasures.

RE: Can you think about the future without being sad? Where will you be in 12 years?

Awhile ago there was a program about manned space travel to Mars. It was (possibly still yet) being considered as a “one-way only”, with a system aboard for the setting up of a lifetime (for the individuals involved) habitat. It’s entirely possible, so said the program, and get this— no shortage of educated, capable professionals from every field volunteering.*

*One NASA program in existence requires astronauts to also be MD’s with a first discipline in psychiatry, fluent in four languages, the epitome of perfect health…among other skill levels.

Not trying to hit any nerves…

So, I’m wondering if other members see this: sometimes a post is just redundant, or it seems like the answer is so general or obvious it’s surprising it was put out there. I get it that we’re all different, and see the world in multiple ways, but seriously, it’s like saying, “Please vote if you believe water is wet”. laugh

RE: Some people just need to be locked up for life. (Forever)

I’ve been interested in the Leslie Van Houten (“The Tate-LoBianca” ‘Helter-Skelter’ murders) story for a long time. I was ten when this happened. Although she has been eligible for parole multiple times, and three times approved by the board, her release has been firmly denied by every California Governor involved. Except for a one-year release in 1970 (some kerfuffle in legal mumbo-jumbo..) she has been incarcerated for over 50 years. Part of me feels some level of pity, and she actually has some staunch supporters, believe it or not, I fully agree with the denials. Some things you don’t get a break on (her involvement in the killings was exponentially grisly…) and the original sentence WAS gas chamber, but commuted to life. Prosecutors and police promised the American public that she, and others, would never again taste freedom. I support their on-going promise. Bravo Brown, Brown, and Newsom. (Hope I got those right)

RE: Thoughts For The Day

*I make my own cards. I tend to like little cottages, retro humor, rustic wooded paths, waterfalls, to name a few.

Im interested to know what your topic(s) are— landscape, flowers, etc…?

RE: Should Andrew relinquish his right to the British throne & be King of a United Ireland ?

I’m just wondering— because one can’t really trust what “the news medias” may say— what do the people most affected (by Mr. Windsor) think and feel, overall/majority- that is, the citizens, patrons and wards of The United Kingdom? As far as I can tell, Americans are tending to want SOME accountability/punishment, while a percentage is arbitrary. How about it, UK? Sympathetic? Vituperative? Non-chalant? Thanx for input…

RE: How do you handle it?

You remind me of a chapter from a medieval play: ( goes something like this:)

“Whence cometh thee, and to what purpose”?
“I am but a mendicant friar, here to rescue these nincompoops from their own folly”

People rarely screw around with someone who is an observer. (The less you say the smarter you look)

RE: How do you handle it?

Not quite sure just exactly what you’re asking- but here are some “efficiency” solutions: Have a copy of every key you own, and keep it as a set. Put it where you will NEVER forget (be creative..) Guys—keep a spare car key AND house key IN YOUR WALLET. (You always have your wallet on you…) At the gym— have a combination lock. If you’re not good at remembering #’s, have them hemmed small, on a patch, and firmly sewn on the inside of your sweat pants, sweat shirt/top, or swim trunks. OR, the inside of your cross-trainer shoe. Think creatively. Keep all the items in your home that you use most AT EYE LEVEL. This goes for dishes, grocery items, bathroom items…If you don’t have a garage or carport, get a cover for your car. They’re about a hundred dollars, and double the life/durability of your car. Buy second hand++it’s frequently BETTER. Don’t worry about what the other guy thinks-he’s NOT paying your way! Save money, live simply. Go out twice a week, not daily. Pubs are wonderful, but a bad money drain. BTW, I’m not talking out-of-school. All these efficiency hints are things I do, and it’s working.

RE: Hungry man's breakfast

I made Shepherds Pie— I used puff pastry. It was awesome…

RE: Can you think about the future without being sad? Where will you be in 12 years?

I am not sad whatsoever. Neither am I worried. The world has never been problem-free. The trick is to develop personal enthusiasm, and strive to live simply. Several high school teachers of mine were firm in saying, “Life is what you make it”. The world’s troubles surround the bummed-out guy at the pub. They also surround the smiling, relaxed happy-go-lucky fellow. The troubles are the same. The outlook of the individual is the key.

RE: Looking forward to live overseas

Something else to think about: I’m an eternal optimist. I really believe if you embrace change, and strongly feel a calling to a particular region, you’ll be able to make it happen. Twice in my life I’ve taken a huge chance in this regard, and both times was very successful. When I applied for college, I had a negative balance in my checking account. In 1979 I arrived in San Francisco with $450.00 to my name. Within a week I had a good job; within a month I had my own flat. Fortune favors the bold….Best of good fortune to you…rose

RE: Looking forward to live overseas

I personally think it’s fine to post here. My comment is, for your sake, research deeply. Do your homework. Example: I live in a beautiful, picturesque seaside/bayside village of approximately 15000. Small beach-front town America. I was born here, lived and worked and went to colleges in San Francisco and Portland. I moved back 15 years ago, and will likely spend the rest of my life here. I love it like there’s no tomorrow. But we have a significant number of people who move here, perhaps a year or two, maybe four or five, who get frustrated for one reason or another, and high-tail it out of here. It’s not for everyone. (We stay pretty much the same population all the time). Don’t make a mistake that would be difficult to unwind. Blessings…bouquet

RE: Hungry man's breakfast

Assuming the menu prices are current, that cafe is VERY economical. Across the board, our breakfasts are about 20% higher here in Oregon. Portland is especially high-priced. We do not, however, have a sales tax. But still, your cafe is very fair priced.thumbs up

RE: Name that storm.

We name our hurricanes (“Katrina”), Mexico and South American countries call a particular tsunami/wind “El Nino”…

RE: If you were to serenade..

Heres a few of my faves:

Heart of Gold (Neil Young)
Don Quixote (Gordon Lightfoot)
The October Winds (Clancy/Makem)
The Parting Glass (Clancy/Makem)
High Hills and Mountains (Jean Ritchie)
Jolene (Dolly Parton)

RE: How do you handle it?

That was a very well-thought-out way of clarifying. It does seem that I, and a handful of others, didn’t understand at first. Thanks for taking time to be more specific.

RE: How do you handle it?

You don’t get anything, do you??

RE: How do you handle it?

I did not come to a conclusion. You did. Ask the club. I’m trying to be kind here, but if you’re going to keep stepping in it and not learning anything, I’ll move on…no problem. It’s chill…lips
