Your presence here brings me lots and lots of comfort. You are kind, thoughtful, sage, respectful, genuine, to say the least. So, for at least one solitary man trying to navigate calmly in a world of chaos and personal loss, you mean GAZILLIONS!!
Some years ago I was downtown Portland on some business. The entire city was jam-packed. Pioneer Square (our Kings Cross) was densely packed. The hullabaloo? The Dali Lama was a guest. I wedged in to catch the whole thing. As he approached the podium, the crowd was in hysterics. Some people were screaming and crying. They settled down a little, and the DL stepped to the microphone. Grinning broadly, he said one word-“Peace”. The crowd went wild. Nay, prostate. More screaming, crying, blubbering. They settled down. Yet grinning, the DL approached again. This time he said, “Love”. If it were possible to be even more enthusiastic, the crowd screamed, applauded, cried, jumped up and down…They finally settled down. Once more, the DL approached the microphone and said, “Tranquility”. My, my, my did the crowd ever react. Even more screaming and crying, uproarious applauding. A middle- aged man was down on the ground, flipping all over the square. Break-dancing, I guess. What an unbelievable demonstration of crowd hysteria. For three words the Beatles and hippies said years ago in Haight-Ashbury.
(I’m against iconizing people, no matter who they are…)
I just ‘perused’ every possible lyrics genre, concerning this particular song. NO WHERE does it even remotely allude to the “F” word. I’m beginning to think that’s an urban legend. However, I’m open- minded. Prove me wrong. I’m game…prove it, prove it…..
There we’re many songs that folks didn’t quite understand the words to- the opening song for “All In The Family” had to be printed in TV Guide because of all the complaints of not “getting” some of the phrases…ie.. “ Boy, the way Glen Miller played! (Songs that made The Hit Parade) Guys, like us, we had it made— Those were the days. And you knew who you were, then— Girls were girls and men were men- Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again— Didn’t need no ‘welfare state’- Everybody pulled his weight— [ ye yah yah yah…..**)
No one could tell what Archie and Edith sang in this line, but it was:
Gee, our old LaSalle ran great- Those were the days”
In the wizard of Oz, “Ding dong, the witch is dead” is hard to understand— She’s gone away in a puff of smoke below, below……” is hard to understand, but it’s in an earlier stage try- out as:
She swept away in a cloud of smoke below, below where goblins go…”
I hear that— I’d like to believe that my contributions aren’t wasted entirely- a little whimsy, a few helpful pointers now and then, sage, thoughtful rhetoric and responses…and hopefully learn something or at least hear multiple views. The one thing I don’t want to be any part of is negativity or hateful personalities. For the lion’s share, my participation is good ( for me…) and we’ll worth it.
So what’s it about? ( not being facetious- I believe you’re on to something— however, I STILL think in his case it’s a personal disdain— he pissed off the wrong marine…et al…)
Still reading this ongoing story with interest. I want to point out that many people have made noble contributions but yet fall short on conduct. The bans are about non-compliance, not whether he is “a nice fellow”. (I knew the “nicest” physician. He was stealing the morphine…)
I believe it is technically illegal to claim a degree or title unearned. (One cannot say or wear apparel that would indicate a military rank or police officer/physician, etc…) If you remember, about a decade or so ago, there was quite a ruckus over some men displaying medals of honor, Purple Hearts, that they hadn’t been officially awarded.
Forgive me if I’m out of school on this, but, unlike America, can’t a P.M. be elected at any time? In other words, not actually a safe position, as our senators and congressmen?
Even if he agrees to testing and vaccination, he will very likely be disqualified on other grounds. I’m venturing a wild guess that he’s let his spunk or his junk get the better of him, tripped over his own feet, got in his own way, pissed off some people. He’s out— might as well get a job, like the rest of us…he’s screwed himself irretrievably.
RE: Power wheels
I looked into an electric bicycle…perhaps. But they can be dangerous, too.
