TRUE, I am 68 years old. I don't know everything, not many people do. From what you posted you think that my future is 6 feet below the earths surface. I have issues, many that I have posted on CS but I am still a productive member of society.
There are many great people in history who in their senior years have contributed a wealth of intelligence in many fields to further the livelihood of mankind.
One day here on CS I posted in a thread that my father molested me when I was 32 years old. You were one of the people who sent me flowers and words of kindness. You could have just as easily thought to yourself that I probably deserved it. But you didn't. You chose to show kindness to a woman who is approaching her later years.
The reason I remember your kind words is because you are young and I thought how sweet it was of you to be so compassionate to an old biddy. I still appreciate your thoughtfulness even though you think my "future lies beneath"....

I still say wisdom comes with age. Please see the definition I found of wisdom:..
DOES WISDOM COME WITH AGE It should but doesn't always. Researchers in positive psychology have defined wisdom as the coordination of "knowledge and experience" and "its deliberate use to improve well being."With this definition, wisdom can be measured using the following criteria: - A wise person can d... That's quite interesting. So am I to believe that people born of Irish heritage, who are over 60 years old, all think that they are wiser then someone younger regardless of how much of life they have experienced?
A 60 year old man or woman, who lives at home with their parents, never worked a day in their life cannot be wiser than the 40 year old who goes out into the world to socialize and has a full time job.
I think a person has to experience all things in life to be wiser. That's what teaches a person how to make decisions.
With all due respect ENGLISH, I don't think wisdom comes with age. I've seen it over and over that some seniors don't have an ounce of common sense. Experience comes with age and that brings the lesson.
It depends on the people in your environment whether they think you are useless. I worked in a law office and was the oldest person and I think I was respected for my experiences.
It is thought that seniors are weeded out of the workplace because they earn a higher salary than someone right out of college but I'm not so sure about that particularly in a recession. The college graduate thinks he/she deserves big bucks but they will be glad to take what they can get so that opens a spot to terminate the senior employee.
As for being wiser then when I was 48 that goes without saying. At that age I was still an immediate gratification person who acted without much thought.
In general I think younger people think we know better but they have problems asking for advice. If by chance they do ask for advice, rarely do they take what is given.
Your questions is directed towards the workplace but I think seniors are looked at differently in social environments.
I think you are enabling him. You're trying to make it easy for him to get on his feet but you're actually making it easy for him to slip up and take the easy road.
He needs to start at the bottom with a job that pays minimum wage while he's staying with you. Then when he gets a few dollars saved he can move out to a furnished room and from there work his way up. At the same time he needs rehab. All these things will keep him busy.
It's the same old thing that we see with kids. When you give them there financial needs they don't know what it took for you to earn the money to buy those things so they can't appreciate it. He needs to buy what he needs so he will appreciate that he earned what he has.
Tough love is very hard to practice when it's someone you care about.
60 Minutes Interview on May 8, 2011. I think you'll hear the President say it over and over that he gave the order BUT it was the brave men and women that carried out the mission. And no, I'm not an Obama fan but like you said, we need to give credit where credit is due. It was a joint effort to get the job done.
I agree but I'm not looking for a relationship. I had a pic on up until yesterday. I took it off because it is five years old and that would be important if I was looking for a date. I've changed alot in five years so it wouldn't be fair to show a pic that's not what I look like today. I'm only here for the forums so it doesn't matter that I don't have a pic. That pic that I took off has been on for five years so everybody here knows what I look like. I know you're kidding.
Personally, I don't believe what men or women write in their profiles if it's more than a line or two. I think it should be just enough to get someones interest. My profile is blunt and to the point without being negative.
