RE: Anyone else hitch hiked a great distance?

I lived on the road for a long time hitching. I loved the lifestyle. I still want to read the Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Universe. thumbs up

Copper pots, hmm. You are talking about the copper inside of the stainless. I have seen those. I left my iron ones in Indiana, lol. I want to study how you start different foods at different times because some cook faster than others when you are preparing a meal. I remember seeing what they call a dutch oven one time. When I was offline I actually fried some eggs that weren't black. I was surprised how much better they tasted, lol. I think that was some recovery that I could actually pay attention to what I was doing at the time without running to the computer, lol. Being offline was a freakin nightmare but I was surprised that I could live through it. Am I addicted to the Internet or what? laugh

My neighbor down the street just uses the olive oil but told me it cooks hotter. I have been using Canola oil. I got a good big stainless steel frying pan when this lady was trying to sale her place and had a big moving sale. I went to Walmart's to look at the no-stick cookware but thought the stuff was too thin of metal. I seen this one nice one in a Fingerhut magazine but the ladies at the nursing home said the wooden handles wouldn't be good. West Bend used to make some good pans and I am planning on getting some more iron skillets. I used to love cooking in a slow cooker except I would get carried away and add too much stuff to the point that you couldn't stir it, lol. I have always wanted to learn how to use a wok because I love Chinese foods.

I have been paying more attention to the labels on foods. Chloresterol, especially because of the good and bad chloresterols. Fish, oatmeal, tomatoes and the lower fats. Some fat is good for you. I am trying to make well-balanced meals instead of just eating out of the can. Mom got a connector for the stove so that my big electric burner works now. I can't wait until yard sale season opens up.

Tangerine tomatoes are orange and better for your heart because they are higher in anti-oxidants than the red ones. Also, according to Burpee the birds leave them alone because of their color. Tangerine tomatoes don't end-rot like the red ones do. Bugs for some reason don't seem to bother them as much as the red tomatoes. They have less seeds and a lower acid content than red tomatoes. I am planning to atleast grow some tomatoes this year.

That was deep and I really loved the poem.

Some children do want their parent's attention. I got to go to some of my daughter's school activities. I got to sit at her high school graduation beside my ex and her mother. I lived through it, lol. My problem was I was in a selfish phase during some of it. One should be more mature than their children.

Terminated

I first paid child support on my son then felt sorry for my ex and that is how my daughter was born. I consider child support a cheaper alternative to remarrying them but then I wouldn't have gotten my beautiful daughter. But I have two little dogs that I love now. I think it is cheaper to raise pets but that is just my opinion.

Terminated

Good story. Yeah, I know I never got a brownie button for paying mine but have gotten some kudos from women who received no support. I have noticed how expensive it is for me to make it in this world on my paycheck and it is just logical that a single parent trying to raise kids and support herself would be harder than what I have it.

Terminated

Thanks. My mom told me and the rest of my brothers and sisters that is was time that we grow up.

Terminated

Yeah and I hope a lot of dads that are paying or are trying to raise the child answer this thread so show that all dads are not deadbeats. Let's see some good role models respond.

Terminated

Wow. That is awesome, Paws. My daughter is taking classes to be a counselor. What is your daughter studying to be?

Terminated

It might not sound right but I am sad for his loss. Of course, you can see that. I have gotten to talk to mine on ims. My mom said my daughter tried to call me when my phone was turned off. My daughter was buming from her mom while I was bumming from my mom but then got two jobs and told her mom and her momma's momma that she would just do it on her own. My daughter has her daddy's attitude. I know what a terrible thing to give to a child, lol.

Terminated

I am glad you do. Kids have a way of remembering that stuff.applause

Well, I think anybody would rather see money coming to you and I did cop an attitude at first but the thing that I was told and agreed with is that you have to do what is best for the child. Paying child support is a way of saying I love you even though your mom and I don't get along.

Terminated

Thank you. My daughter just turned 19 2/24/07 so now I can file for parent support. Just kidding. She works two full time jobs and makes more than I do. The job economy made my back support take longer to pay but the main thing is that she is ok. She took a semester off from college or otherwise I would still be paying. Now that I have some extra money I might be even able to have gas money to go see her. The funny thing is I am 50 and still bum money from my mom. So far she hasn't cut me off but always expects me to pay her back. So far my credit is still good with my mom.

As of 2/27/2007 I have been terminated to pay any more child support. That means it is all paid off and I will have an extra $220.00 a month that is not coming out of my paycheck. Yippee!!! I am going to have the freakin letter framed. Just a little 'x' in a box but geez I feel like I have been freed, lol. I always wondered what the last letter would look like. That means I get to have my own tax refunds.

RE: plane with child hits house

Oh God how terrible. First I heard of it.

RE: Out aof site, out of mind!

Real experience was that I had to see my wife and child as dead to me when I went through the first divorce. It was the only way I could deal with the cultural shock of the divorce. I had no recourse I felt but to leave. My mother-in-law would not give up her authority over her house and mine, either. I could not win because she had corrupted my wife's mind so bad that there was no reasoing with her. I said ok fine. I hope you and your daughter have a nice life and I am sorry that I ever came in between you. From my way of thinking coming from a religious background when a man and woman get married that any conflicts or problems that come up should be resolved by them. I admitted defeat and left.

RE: Spare Britney??

I think Britney has undergone the same trouble with the industry as Madonna did with her protrayal of Christ for that old soda commercial and the Dixie Chicks view of the war in Iraq. The public has a way of replying to what they see on television.

Walter Reed Hospital

From what I heard on the radio last night with all our servicemen stratched out like they are if our country was attacked we would not be prepared. I was wondering if you heard the same story.

Walter Reed Hospital

In a letter Sunday to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Sen. Charles Schumer (news, bio, voting record), D-N.Y., asked for an independent commission, possibly headed by former Secretary of State Colin Powell, to investigate all post-combat medical facilities and recommend changes.

"To think that men and women are serving their country in the most honorable and courageous way possible and all we give them is a dilapidated, rat-infested, run-down building to recover is a disgrace," Schumer wrote. "My fear is that Walter Reed is just the tip of the iceberg, and merely highlights the pervasive and systemic mistreatment of our service members."

President Bush last week ordered a comprehensive review of conditions at the nation's network of military and veteran hospitals. They have been overwhelmed by injured troops from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The White House said the president would name a bipartisan commission to assess whether the problems at Walter Reed exist at other facilities. Last week, Gates created an outside panel to review the situation at Walter Reed and the other major military hospital in the Washington area, the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, Md.

Gates also dismissed Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey, who had fired Weightman and replaced him with Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley, the Army's surgeon general and a former commander of Walter Reed. Gates said Harvey's response was not aggressive enough.

The Army announced that Maj. Gen. Eric B. Schoomaker will be the new commander of Walter Reed, which is in Washington. In addition, the Army took disciplinary action against several lower-level soldiers at Walter Reed.

The moves came in response to a series of Washington Post reports about substandard conditions and bureaucratic problems affecting the care of injured soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan to Walter Reed, one of the military's highest-profile and busiest medical facilities, and its outpatient facilities.

Sen. Carl Levin (news, bio, voting record), D-Mich., chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Sunday the scandal is emblematic of the Bush administration's "lack of accountability" and "overoptimism" about the war in Iraq.

Walter Reed Hospital

Was just listening to it on the radio last night and didn't catch all of it but so far if I am correct two Generals have been let go of and this morning that President Bush is going to have committee to check out all of the Army Hospitals.

School of Hard Knocks

That makes sense. Even when I was in the military they had a thing called the buddy system. Your buddy watched your back and you watched his. One of the things we learn in our support groups is one never has to be alone again. I am learning it is true where I work because the workload is halved. We have had to learn to trust each other; have good communication skills; be honest or take the consequences and work together on things. I especially agree with the anger. I grew up in an environment like that and did not like it. One is never too old to learn and one should never be too big to say I am sorry. Life is just too short to stay pissed off all the time.
