RE: AT&T - BellSouth Merger - A good thing?

When Ma Bell broke up we got all these little dinky phone companies with local coverage of maybe two towns. We got Yelcot here which is for Yellville and Summit. Any where else out is not local. You either got to get a phone card or a cell phone. It used to be called the Phone Company but now it is anybody's guess. We will switch you for free and then you get two bills instead of just one. Lets bring back the telegraph, lol.

RE: Okay, all you middle age Baby Boomers..Do you still go to Drive In movie theaters?

We still have one about fifty miles away. I had great times there. I have fond memories of being in the trunk and being told ok Roy push the back seat with your legs now, lol. It sucked being poor when I was younger, lol. But atleast the trunk was easier than crawling over the barb wire, lol. Explaining why there was a tear in the crotch wasn't easy, either, lol. I worked a deal out with the owner of the theater so I could pay on credit. Was a lot easier on my nerves, lol. My little later got a job running the motion picture projector. Later I got to operate a very old one in a walk-in theater. It was two projectors with the old anode-cathode set up. Nothing like being buried in old film all the way up to your knees instead of the entire audience screaming up at you what happened to the movie because the theater lights would come on while you are trying to splice another old film back together every five minutes or so. There used to be a little white circle on the film that would let you know it was time to turn the projector on so the audience didn't know it was two projectors that had to run simultaneously. Of course if you got interested in watching the movie you could miss the little white circle showing up because when the little bells came on because the film reel was empty and going flap, flap, flap it was way too late then. The projectors were made in 1928. I could still remember that sound of the whole audience of , "Hey, what happened to the movie." "We want to see the movie. We paid good money to see this movie and we want to see it now." What was really bad was when you had popcorn grease all over your hands and trying to get the stupid film back to working after it came off track, lol.

RE: They just hung saddam

I didn't know that happened. My reaction is shock.

RE: BAGGAGE CLAIM

I have a spontaneity issue.

The Why Of Why.

I know. I used to get wasted a lot. Surprising my mind still works at all. doh

The Why Of Why.

Have you ever tried to ask a question that was so big that you couldn't even ask it?rolling on the floor laughing

The Why Of Why.

How many psychologists does it take to change a lightbulb?rolling on the floor laughing

The Why Of Why.

Is it possible to damage the brain by thinking to much? Think about it.rolling on the floor laughing

The Why Of Why.

Oh, good. I think I am in need of one now.rolling on the floor laughing

The Why Of Why.

So do you think it is better to hijack your own thread or have someone else hijack your thread for you? I don't think that question has been asked, yet?rolling on the floor laughing

The Why Of Why.

Oh, ok. I feel so much more self-assured now, lol. Say who is minding the store, lol?

The Why Of Why.

You may have a point, lol. Oh, no, I was ok but now there are others out there, too, lol. WTF do I do now, lol?

The Why Of Why.

I could understand why. Deviant behavior was somewhat interesting to me but then it, too became dull. I think I have a personal dislike of psychologists because I thought it was violating. For example, hypnotism can be scary but dianetics can be less scary. L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer started it. Arthur C. Clarke, a science fiction writer helped to develop satellites while studying the Van Allen Belt. Isaac Asimov, a science fiction writer coined the word robot from which modern robotics developed.

The Why Of Why.

I bet it could be fun reading. I love sci-fi. Thanks would loved to see the link. hug

The Why Of Why.

What is amazing to me is how much science fiction has become science fact. It used to be one could laughed out of a group of people when thinking that the earth is round. People would go out and jump on the ground and could say, "Any fool can see the earth is flat." Today we can scientifically prove that they were correct in saying they were a fool.

The Why Of Why.

Oh, I know. I took general psychology or Psych 101. I found it to be thoroughly stuffy, boring and dull. It was so clinical. But popular psychology can be interesting. A lot of interesting self-help books are popular psychology based from group sessions. That brings us back to whether psychology is more helpful than socialogy which was an earlier question of yours. We not take help from psychologist because we may think that they think that we are psycho but we might take help from counselors in group sessions because we can relate with the group instead of just an one on one session. Socialogy can be less threatening, more interesting and more fun.

The Why Of Why.

Makes sense. Modern medicine tries to incorporate treating the whole person. Different fields of study can be combined. The trial and error of surgeons was added to the general practioner or different forms of doctors came together as specialists.

The Why Of Why.

It could be possible when the child comes up against a problem that it can not handle on its own. In science fiction when trying to explain how a computer or robot can become self-aware it starts to go through the basic questions that a child could go through. For example; Is this all that I am? Am I alone? How big am I? What function do I serve? Isaac Asimov tried to show this in his book, "I, robot".

The Why Of Why.

True. Why would a computer care if the law was broke. If a computer has a wrong answer it can be attributed to operator error or a malfunction. Of course, a human can malfunction. That could be why there is a Fifth Amendment; a psychologist called in to determine competency or a court case opened up to determine liability.

The Why Of Why.

That could be true. Computers can "percieve" logic. The flow chart that one can study in trying to understand computers relates to this. Computer programming can be different than people programming. If this happens then do this or these options are available to the computer programming. For example, at some jobs for humans there are the MSDS and a guidelines to follow in case of emergencies. Logic can only go so far then reasoning is needed otherwise computers could be self-aware like humans. Self-help groups can be based on socialogy.

The Why Of Why.

I would think it would be up to the individual. For example, if a child had siblings that might affect its later life as an adult if the child was social to begin with. If the child was a lone child still it is possible that it could be social with its mother and father. I am glad you asked because that can lead into logic.

The Why Of Why.

According to child psychology the child is like a little scientist. Everything that comes into a child's realm of discovery causes the child to be curious about it. First, the child whild still in the womb becomes cognizant about sound and touch that it can sense. A person in a coma that can be thought of in a simliar fashion. A person in a coma can hear things sometimes and sensed being touched. A small baby in the womb can kick as mothers can testify to. It can hear its mother's voice and father voice. At some point the child starts asking the question why and it is then sentient. Mathematics and logic are sometimes based on this. We can get if and then statements. The child starts asking questions at some point and then the questions may never cease, lol. A lot of good threads in the forums are started by why. Then that question can be followed by another why, lol. It is reasoning based on fact that can lead to another fact. So far computers can not ask why and can not answer why unless it is followed by other words. Eventually the child becomes self-aware then the study can be changed from psychology to socialogy because at some point the child can understand that it is not alone in the universe.

RE: Merry Christmas Mike

Way to go, Mike. I am happy the deal came through for you and you got what you wanted at your price. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

RE: Prerequisites....Good or Bad??

I think prequisites makes sense. I mean dating isn't like Walmarts where you can just take it back if you find you don't like it later. There are people on the forums who have went through divorces. For some reason or another things just didn't go right or otherwise there wouldn't have been a divorce. Why not just think about like a car that would like to have with all the fancy gadgets, your personal choice of color, high or low mileage. Heck, kick the tires; take it out for a test drive and rev it up as fast as you can go then park it and see if has a leak or rattles or whatever. Take a look under the hood; check with the previous owner and look up the bluebook value on it. Do a FBI and police report on it. Put it under extremes form of tests and see if it will crack under high pressure. If it survives then ask it what it is hiding because it is probably too good to be true.

RE: still miss the ex

I don't miss my ex any more. That has been over seven years ago. The one that came after her I have been dealing with that miss. It has been one year and seven months since her demise.

RE: throw some prayers my way...well, my little one's way...

Heart Dragging Mind.
by RainbowSlider

Heart dragging mind.
You will do just fine.
But what do they know?
Can they peer into my soul?

Its just a phase.
Your latest craze.
Uppsy-daisy.
Don't be lazy.

Think of something new.
Its not like you.
Too soon to know.
Just let it grow.

If it happens, OK.
Who cares, anyway?
Maybe, its just me.
Let's just wait and see.

Heart dragging mind.
Happens all the time.
No need to mind it.
If its there; You'll find it.

In My Little Town
by RainbowSlider

I was feeling blue and down.
I saw this midget in my town.
Her name on a restaurant receipt.
Almost four foot tall and so sweet.

Three feet of fine braided hair.
Wooden balls around there.
She came up to my belt buckle.
I think of her and then chuckle.

I am up here; I wanted to say.
But said she was busy, today.
Every two weeks the same thing.
At my table the drink she brings.

I go through the great buffet.
I listen to what she has to say.
She talks to those that come in.
She treats everyone as a friend.

The place is nice to dine in quiet.
There is salad for those on diet.
A cozy place to take in the view.
The food is really good there, too.
