RE: Am I mean?

I think you are just being yourself.

RE: Beverly Hills

Just keeping digging and maybe you will hit a big gusher, Johnny. thumbs up

RE: Will you ever remarry?

Marriage can be an ok I have been there and done that. It can be an time of enlightment or a way to have kids. I have been married three times; divorced twice and widowed once. I have been single for over a year and a half. The marriages helped me to mature and the state of being unmarried has really given me time to reflect on the married life and time to understand the single life since I was married most of my life. I know what you mean about that expiration date, Bobbie. I think in terms of the expiration date in the view that I have become settled in my ways. My thoughts on another marriage possibility terrorize me. I mean to take a chance on reliving some of my worse nightmares. I won't be another mindless robot to serve. It just ain't in me. I have come so far and don't want to jeopardize that. Boxed emotions. I can understand that. I still have maturing to do.

RE: Great Expectations

Expect the worse and you will never be disappointed but surprised when something good happens. Just think of all the laws that made so many things mandatory that used to be just common courteousy.

RE: The role of uncertainty in life

That is a good point, Alex.thumbs up One can be prepared for uncertainty. A lot of the older generation when I was growing up had savings but still lived a frugal lifestyle. Having savings or a nest egg was more certain. I can't remember all the times I have walked with a gas can because I pushed the car to the limit. I have roade on fumes a lot. Some things that seem a necessity now weren't even invented in times passed especially in rural areas. The way one can view the standard of living can be an uncertainty. One can view a larger income to mean a better standard of living. Self-esteem can be an uncertainty because we may view ourselves by the way others view us. Some may be certain about themselves no matter how they are viewed by others.

RE: what do you think about french ?

I like french fries, french dressing and french kissing.thumbs up

RE: What do you like the best about connecting singles

I think Connecting Singles is a wonderful place.thumbs up

RE: The role of uncertainty in life

In the fourth demension time is regarded as a coordinate dimension and required by relativity theory, along with three spatial dimensions, to specify completely the location of any event. Time can be an uncertainty in life for humans.

RE: The role of uncertainty in life

That is the survivor spirit and good point. Life can be certain even if we aren't. I have been in what seemed like hopeless situations only to find a door that seemed to open where I was unaware that there was a door there. Sometimes the fourth dimension can seem invisible when one is used to living in the third dimension.

RE: Do you feel complete?

I finally feel complete. It sure has taken a long time, though. I am happy for I have finally accepted life on its own terms. My job doesn't really pay that much but the benefits from it are very rewarding. My children have their own lives and are doing well. I have a nice set up here in the hills with an affordable rent. I just have four more months of garnishment and the bill will be paid in full making my restitutions complete. I have my meetings for socializing. I have an independence of sorts in my single life. I have a great dog and my car is in good shape. I am optimistic about the future.

RE: Most Romantic Movie, what's your's

Isle Of Woman by Piers Anthony

RE: bad times

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Take an eraser and make yourself a clean slate. The past is good if we can learn from it but it is the past. The future is not here, yet and is not revelant, yet. What matters is this moment and the decision is yours to enjoy it.

RE: sometimes i wonder

That does not sound like a good advertisement for those services that you are paying for.

RE: Undermining American Civilization...?

Is a swear on a stack of holy books more reliable than just swearing on one in your opinion, Duncan? I have heard people in America quoted as saying, "I will swear it on a stack of Bibles".

Kind of like a match maker service, huh? Oh, but I think he would be just perfect you. Oh, really? I think you are just trying to pawn him off on me so that your match maker service looks good. She would be so good for you. Says who? But we have matched all these common points that you both have and you two would be just perfect for each other. Oh, really now? You think you know more about me than I do? rolling on the floor laughing What if she or he lied on the form? What if that was just the way they looked at it on that particularly day? RE: Have men become less confident?

Cool.thumbs up First one besides me who actually admits to having a fear of women. I like the levelness, too. The male ego can be a fragile thing. I think it is wonderful to be able to communicate with a woman who can understand what I am talking about. They don't have to agree. Just have to understand and so many on the forums do. The old male confidence can be false confidence in the new playing field. The lumps are really not as bad as one thinks they might be. Acceptance of truth has been a lump for me. Actually admitting my ex was really right about a lot of things. Some of the truth tasted like bile, lol. Great input. Glad you put a reply in.

RE: your favorite last 3 movies you have are

Forbidden Planet 1956 movie about monsters of the id. In times long past, this planet was the home of a mighty, noble race of beings who called themselves the Krell. Ethically and technologically they were a million years ahead of humankind, for in unlocking the meaning of nature they had conquered even their baser selves, and when in the course of eons they had abolished sickness and insanity, crime and all injustice, they turned, still in high benevolence, upwards towards space. Then, having reached the heights, this all-but-divine race disappeared in a single night, and nothing was preserved above ground.

Robinson Crusoe On Mars 1964 movie about a twist to Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. Commander Christopher 'Kit' Draper (Paul Mantee) and Colonel Dan McReady (Adam West) are in orbit about Mars when emergency maneuvers to avoid colliding with a meteor force an unplanned descent to the surface. McReady is killed in the landing and Draper is stranded alone, with only a monkey named Mona for company. The commander finds a cave where he can take shelter, but it is by accident that he obtains the rest of what he needs to survive. First, he discovers that certain rocks give off oxygen when burned. He is then able to repressurize his oxygen tank, so he can move around in the rarefied atmosphere. Next, Mona keeps disappearing periodically. When Draper notices that she doesn't need his dwindling food and water, he gives her a salty cracker. Eventually Mona gets thirsty and leads him to the pond she has found; there are also edible alien "sausages" growing in the water. Finally, Draper fashions a sand clock that sounds an alarm to waken him in time for a periodically needed dose of oxygen.

Demon Seed 1977 movie about a machine trying for self-preservation. Early one morning, Dr Alex Harris (Fritz Weaver) oversees the completion of Proteus IV, an artificial intelligence system built with an organic component and the power of independent thought. Later, at his entirely voice-activated, computer-controlled home, Harris is working in his laboratory when he is approached by his estranged wife, Susan (Julie Christie), who tries to discuss with him his decision to move out of the house. Their conversation ends in an argument, however, as Susan accuses Alex of being dehumanised by his obsession with the Proteus project. When Susan has gone, Alex phones his colleague Walter Gabler (Gerrit Graham) and asks him to shut down the access terminal to Proteus that is in his laboratory. Alex demonstrates Proteus to the executives of ICON, the company that funded its development, explaining that the entire fund of human knowledge is being fed into the system. The visitors are astonished to learn that, in less than four days, Proteus has developed a theoretical cure for leukaemia. The group visits the Dialogue Room, where linguistics expert Dr. Soong Yen (Lisa Lu) is reading history to the computer. To demonstrate Proteus’ ability to speak, Alex asks it what it thinks of what it has just heard. Proteus answers, but then begins to theorise on its own. Soon Li, becoming agitated, shuts the system down.

RE: The role of uncertainty in life

Pluto (also known as Pluto the Pup) is a fictional character made famous in a series of Disney short cartoons. Pluto has most frequently appeared as Mickey Mouse's pet dog, although he has also been Donald Duck's pet, and occasionally as the pet of Goofy (who, bizarrely, is himself a dog). He also had an independent starring role in a number of Disney shorts in the 1940s and 1950s. Pluto is unusual for a Disney character in that he is not anthropomorphized beyond showing an unusually broad range of facial expressions; he is actually represented as a normal dog.

RE: The role of uncertainty in life

Pluto had a pet. Which one was a real dog?

RE: The role of uncertainty in life

I like Socrates' 'gadfly'. "Gadfly" is a term for people who upset the status quo by posing upsetting or novel questions, or attempt to stimulate innovation by proving an irritant. The term "gadfly" was used by Plato to describe Socrates' relationship of uncomfortable goad to the Athenian politician scene, which he compared to a slow and dimwitted horse. During his defense when on trial for his life, Socrates, according to Plato's writings, pointed out that dissent, like the tiny (relative to the size of a horse) gadfly, was easy to swat, but the cost to society of silencing individuals who were irritating could be very high. "If you kill a man like me, you will injure yourselves more than you will injure me," because his role was that of a gadfly, "to sting people and whip them into a fury, all in the service of truth."
