RE: I give UP!!!!

I joined CS quite a while ago but did not use the site for over a year.
Like many I received an email informing me of the formation of the UK forum and so came back out of interest.

I had hoped to use the site and the forums to both make friends and possibly pehaps; just perhaps; find that special one.

Like Arabella I have flowered, emailed and also posted to forums.

My short reaccquantainance has already convinced me that there are better uses for my time and energy.

I feel like a neanderthal man on this site.
I am sadly out of touch with many of the opinions expressed on here.
Unable to compehend much of the reasoning and have probably got 4 times as many chances of winning the Lotto than finding a kindred spirit.

so like Arabella

I give up!

RE: Can you define Human Rights?

Jan

I totally agree with you and at times feel great despair with the human race.

The desire for tribal conquest, land accquisition, control of resources and wealth, all contribute to these many, many violations.

Perhaps however we overlook the basic fact that the human is a very cruel animal.

Setfree,

Have to disagree with your nomination of Diana.

Charismatic - Yes

Popular - Yes

Photogenic - Yes

Heroine - No.

RE: Name someone who...

No arguement there Jan.

Difficult to think of a modern day individual who comes anywhere near justifying that description.

Hi Gabybunny.

Welcome aboard,

you are now trapped with the rest of us.

RE: Name someone who...

I agree totally with Jan that the term is much overused and seriously devalued in todays society.

There are many personal heroes and heroines, like those already discussed in this thread.

On a National or International scene I think of names like Mother Theresa, Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King.

Controversial to some perhaps; but in my opinion truly worthy of the name.

The joker above you is so rude and crude that it is simply a question of when not if they are removed from the site!

In the meantime we simply have to accept that we have one who is not playing with a full deck.

RE: whats wrong with people

Well said Ladyinthemids.

Why do people find it necessary to personally attack others?

RE: My heart is in Spain but my soul is in the UK....

The dilema posed by your adult students questions is very relevant.

The accurate exposure by the media of the beer bellied lager louts, with their Union Jack shorts and their fondness for violence, demonstrates behaviour that is simply indefensible.

The english speaking ghettos again simply expose the arrogant superior mentality common among the great number of little englander expats. It is equally indefensible.

Luckily many ex pats are able to integrate and to provide a positive counterbalance. I hope that in time they will prevail.

RE: My heart is in Spain but my soul is in the UK....

I sincerely trust that what is a very sensible discussion topic is not pulled by the thought police.
your contribution is both valid and welcomed.
Only by the example you personally set should you be judged!

the Spanish are lovely people but unforunately are as guilty as the rest of us in giving other nations stereotypes.

RE: What would be your reaction ????

I think like you that I would be very angry.

Your friends have obviously prejudged the issue but if you can truthfully say to yourself that it is a misjudgement then I would seriously question their motives.

Whose friend are they? yours or his?

Did they issue the same withdrawal and condition to him?

There lies your answer!

RE: First Date with a new person....

I think that you need to agree beforehand that the fist meeting is a SHORT introductory one with a natural ending: ie a coffee meet and that anything after that either flows naturally or both can exit without drama.wine

A white horse walked into the bar.

Barman says " Hey thats strange we got a whisky named after you!"

RE: Cs goes to europe

Had you taken the time and trouble to look at the facts you would have noted that we have no direct access to the European Forum. We are limited in our screen choice to the UK and International Forums.

You would also have noted that my comments referred only to the UK site.
However we British also have a saying " If the cap fits" !wine

RE: Cs goes to europe

Given the residency requirements of the thought police , coupled with the banality and adolescence already encountered on the UK site would it be possible to remain here with the "Grown Ups" ? wine

RE: American Women and English men in Spain

It strikes me that the success or otherwise of relationships has much more to do with attitude and perception than with geographical location.

Europeans tend to look at distance and practicality rather more than nationality.
In my case for example it is as easy for me to visit someone in Germany, Netherlands or France as it is to visit the south of England.

Language barriers within Europe do however influence this choice.

Americans on the other hand seem happy to travel vast distances provided it is within the national boundary.
(This by the way is not a criticism of US citizens but an attempt to show the thinking.)

The most important element of any success is surely the compatability of the individuals.

I wonder which of my fellow Scots managed to upset heatherhearts so badly?

RE: what the????????????

It would seem that the thought police are alive and actively engaged.

Given the banality and adolescence of some of the threads which are allowed to remain ;you are forced to ask if the inmates really are running the asylum? wine

RE: Age Difference

Difficult to be objective on this one.

I think the whole world is younger than Me!

Guess that means I'm goosed!!wine

Not certain about US propert law but MichaelH's advice seems eminently sensible.wine
