RE: What is ego in life?

Why !!
because every thing is in a constant flux of change, every cell in your body, every thought, the building blocks of the causes as one needs to use the grey matter above one shoulders to comprehend what is being is meant instead of blindly following a load of bull-dust others bombard unguarded minds withcomfort

RE: What is ego in life?

pedro choose carefully the information been promoted above, the be good idea pedro
Ego denotes self. Buddha's teaching is based on the concept of no-self (anatta), therefore it is based on the concept of no-ego. The only possibility for ego to be real is if permanence is real. But as we all know, everything is impermanent, meaning there is no possibility for ego to be real.

RE: A Jewish man speaks out.

Believe me the situation in Gaza & particularly Syria can have very serous consequences:
24 Oct, 2023
Russia intercepts US bombers
A pair of nuclear-capable B-1Bs were detected on approach over the Baltic Sea
Two US Air Force B-1B Lancer strategic bombers were intercepted on approach to Russian airspace over the Baltic Sea by a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, Russian air defenses detected two aerial targets over the waters of the Baltic, and a fighter was dispatched to identify them and prevent any violations of the national airspace.

The crew of the Su-27 identified the intruders as Lancers, which are long-range strategic bombers designed to carry nuclear-armed missiles and bombs. As the Russian fighter approached, the two American bombers changed course and headed away from the border.

The Russian Defense Ministry noted that no airspace violation occurred, and the interception was entirely in line with safe conduct norms and international law pertaining to neutral waters.

Earlier this month, the US sent several B-1 bombers and about 100 air service members from the 9th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron in Dyess, Texas to the Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford base in the UK. The deployment is part of the “Bomber Task Force-Europe 24-1” mission, described as providing the US and NATO with “strategic options to assure Allies and partners, while also deterring potential adversary aggression throughout Europe and across the globe.”

RE: A Jewish man speaks out.

Poor lunatics is a rather condescending term in colloquial language Conrad and given that members in the main responded with thumbs down to an unbiased explanation explaining in detail the formation of Hamas the Muslim Brotherhood’s political arm in Gaza in 1987. Hamas being a transnational Sunni Islamist organization founded in Egypt. Clearly this thread exposes large number of low class social misfits burdened with psychological problems. At very lease 7 members suffer the afflictions of like and dislike and should be views pityingly in expressing their close mindedness and support for mass murder.

I understand insane people represent the traditionally important group of people in this day and age, unfortunately they can't expect help from a public who in ever greater numbers have become sickened by the constant religious promoted violence. Including the activities of Benjamin Netanyahu, whom you appear to support. Irgun a terrorist organization that even the United Nations, British, and United States governments as the Irgun members were absorbed into the Israel Defense Forces at the start of the 1948 Arab–Israeli war that was the political predecessor to Israel's right-wing Herut, that led to today's Likud party of scumbags like Benjamin Netanyahu.
Am I then to understand that you have renounced Pope Francis call for the silencing of guns and the avoidance of “a humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza Conrad?

RE: A Jewish man speaks out.

Ziyad al-Nakhalah is the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) since 28 September 2018, which has been designated a terrorist organisation by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.

Al-Nakhalah was designated a Specially Designated Terrorist by the United States in 2014.

Al-Nakhalah is said to currently live in either Lebanon or Syria. He is believed to maintain strong ties with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). His group, the PIJ, is mainly funded by Iran and Syria.

Since PIJ also participated in the 7th October attacks alongside Hamas and is currently holding at least 30 Israeli hostages, he is also on Israel’s hitlist. Al-Nakhaleh, who usually lives in Beirut, said in a televised speech on Sunday night that the hostages will not be released until all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are released.

I tried following what was posted in this thread and most of what I read sounded biased, misleading at the very least then happened upon the above information that seemed to present quite comprehensive explanation about history of Hamas.

Far as Israel's actions in Gaza its been horrible to follow the activities Benjamin Netanyahu who has been prime minister of Israel for a combined total of 15 years. Netanyahu was elected by the Likud party it was founded in 1973 by Menachem Begin and Ariel Sharon in an alliance with several right-wing parties.
At its founding in 1973, the Likud coalition was dominated by the Gahal bloc, which consisted of the Herut (“Freedom”) party and the Liberal Party (Miflaget ha-Liberali). The Herut had its roots in Vladimir Jabotinsky’s Revisionist Zionism, popular especially among Russian Jews of the 1920s and ’30s. It was formally organized in 1948, the year of Israel’s independence, in the merger of preindependence groups such as the Irgun Zvai Leumi. Some of the groups had been considered terrorist organizations by the British authorities. Begin, a Polish-born Jew, had been leader of the Irgun. The other member of the Gahal bloc, the Liberal Party, was formed in 1961 in the merger of the General Zionist Party (active from 1948 to 1961) and the smaller Progressive Party. Staunchly Zionist, the Liberal Party advocated retention of all territories conquered by Israel in the Six-Day War.
The Irgun the National Military Organization in the Land of Israel, it was a Zionist paramilitary organization that operated in Mandate Palestine and then Israel between 1931 and 1948. It was an offshoot of the older and larger Jewish paramilitary organization Haganah. Irgun has been viewed as a terrorist organization or organization which carried out terrorist acts, it founded by Ze'ev Jabotinsky. The policy of the organization was based squarely on Jabotinsky's teachings: every Jew had the right to enter Palestine; only active retaliation would deter the Arabs; only Jewish armed force would ensure the Jewish state. Two of the operations for which the Irgun is best known are the bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem on 22 July 1946 and the Deir Yassin massacre that killed at least 107 Palestinian Arab villagers, including women and children, carried out together with Lehi on 9 April 1948. The organization committed acts of terrorism against the British, whom it regarded as illegal occupiers, and against Arabs. In particular the Irgun was described as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, British, and United States governments. Irgun members were absorbed into the Israel Defense Forces at the start of the 1948 Arab–Israeli war. The Irgun was a political predecessor to Israel's right-wing Herut (or "Freedom") party, which led to today's Likud party scumbags

RE: A Jewish man speaks out.

Since being appointed to head a Hamas office in 1997, he has grown in the ranks of the organisation. Haniyeh was head of the Hamas list that won the Palestinian legislative elections of 2006, and so became prime minister. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office in June 2007 at the height of the Fatah–Hamas conflict, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continued to exercise prime ministerial authority in the Gaza Strip, becoming one of the two disputed prime ministers. Haniyeh replaced Khaled Mashal as Hamas political chief in May 2017.

In May 2011, Haniyeh condemned the killing by American forces of Osama bin Laden, founder and leader of Al-Qaeda, stating that the operation is "the continuation of the American oppression and shedding of blood of Muslims and Arabs". He stated, "We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior." The United States government condemned his remarks as "outrageous".

He named the Hamas terrorist attacks 'Operation Al-Aqsa Flood' at the weekend and pledged to continue the 'battle to liberate our land and our prisoners'. Haniyeh said Palestinian militant factions would push on with the operation in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

It will be challenging for the Israelis to target Haniyeh. Footage emerged of Haniyeh in his office in Doha, celebrating the attacks with other Hamas officials.
Mahmoud al-Zahar

Zahar, believed to be about sixty years old, has been with Hamas since its founding and was close to Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin.

He is a co-founder of Hamas and a member of the Hamas leadership in the Gaza Strip. Al-Zahar served as foreign minister in the Hamas-dominated Palestinian Authority Government of March 2006 (also known as the First Haniyeh Government) that was sworn in on 20 March 2006.

Born in Gaza, he studied medicine in Cairo and became a surgeon and personal doctor to Yassin, as well as a lecturer at the Islamic University in Gaza. Al-Zahar was instrumental in the creation of Hamas in 1987.

In response to a campaign of suicide bombings by the Al-Qassam Brigades, on 10 September 2003 an Israeli F-16 dropped a large bomb over his house in the Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza, which only managed to slightly wound him, while his eldest son Khaled, and a personal bodyguard were killed, and twenty others wounded including his daughter Rima. His house was completely destroyed. His other son, a member of Al-Qassam Brigades, was killed by Israeli fire in Gaza on 15 January 2008.

Like Haniyeh, Zahar was expelled to Lebanon in 1992, has served time in jail, and survived an assassination attempt. He is often referred to as a hardliner.

Abd al-Fattah Dukhan, also known as “Abu Osama,” a founding member of Hamas, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza on Tuesday, according to a report. He was killed in the Nuseirat neighborhood, according to Israel’s KAN public broadcaster, which cited a Palestinian report. Dukhan, a former school principal, helped write the group’s charter back in 1987, which calls for the complete annihilation of Israel.

Meanwhile, the IDF said two other top Hamas officials were also killed in recent airstrikes: Zachariah Abu Ma’amar, a senior member of the politburo, and Jawad Abu Shamala, the group’s economy minister.

Zachariah Abu Ma'amar was part of Hamas’ senior forum, involved in the organisation's decision-making and the planning of numerous terror activities against Israel.

"Abu Ma'amar was known as a confidant to Yahya Sinwar, incited against Israel, and acted to endanger Israeli civilians." the IDF stated.

Israel’s security establishment emphasised that as part of his role, Abu Shamala managed the organisation's finances and earmarked the funds for financing and directing terrorism inside and outside the Gaza Strip. He also previously held security positions in Hamas and, as part of his role, led several operations aimed at harming Israeli citizens. continued...

RE: A Jewish man speaks out.

The current whereabouts of Deif are unknown, though he is believed to be hiding in Gaza somewhere in the maze of tunnels.

During the Israeli retaliation following the 7th October attacks, Palestinian sources said Israeli airstrikes targeted one of the homes in Gaza that belonged to Deif's father. Deif's brother and two other family members were reportedly killed. He is currently on top of Israel’s hitlist.

He is the current spokesman of the Al-Qassam Brigades, and he was the person who announced that Hamas was holding dozens of Israeli soldiers captive in “safe places”’ and tunnels in the Gaza Strip.

Abu Obaida's actual name is not known, and neither are most of his personal details. He only appears wearing a keffiyeh covering his face. In 2014, Israeli media outlets released a photo, allegedly of Abu Obaida, with the name Huzaifa Samir Abdullah al-Kahloot. However, the validity of the photo and name were denied by the al-Qassam Brigades, a senior leader of which said that Abu Obaida "does not and will not appear to the media," and that only a small number of people knew who he actually was.

The pseudonym likely refers to Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah, companion of the Prophet Muhammad and the commander of Rashidun Caliphate forces during the Battle of the Yarmuk and Siege of Jerusalem during the 7th century. Abu Obaida's first media appearance was in 2006, when he announced the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

Ismail Haniyeh is the main political leader of Hamas, living outside of Gaza in Doha, Qatar.

Haniyeh was born in the Al-Shati refugee camp in the Gaza Strip in 1962. His parents became refugees, after they fled their homes near what is now Ashkelon, Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

He studied at the Islamic University of Gaza, during which he had become involved with Hamas, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Arabic literature in 1987. While at university, he had become involved with Hamas. From 1985 to 1986, he was head of the students' council representing the Muslim Brotherhood. He also played as a midfielder in the Islamic Association football team. He graduated at about the same time as the First Intifada.

He participated in protests in the First Intifada and was given a short prison sentence by an Israeli military court. He was detained by Israel again in 1988 and imprisoned for six months. In 1989, he was imprisoned for three years. Following his release in 1992, the Israeli authorities deported him to Lebanon with senior Hamas leaders Abdel-Aziz al-Rantissi, Mahmoud Zahhar, Aziz Duwaik, and 400 others. They stayed at Marj al-Zahour in southern Lebanon for over a year, where according to BBC News, Hamas "received unprecedented media exposure and became known throughout the world". A year later, he returned to Gaza and was appointed as dean of the Islamic University.

After Israel released Ahmed Yassin from prison in 1997, Haniyeh was appointed to head his office. His prominence within Hamas grew due to his relationship with Yassin and he was appointed as the representative to the Palestinian Authority. His position within Hamas continued to strengthen during the Second Intifada due to his relationship with Yassin, and because of the assassinations of much of the Hamas leadership by the Israeli security forces.

He was targeted by the IDF for his alleged involvement in attacks against Israeli citizens. Following a suicide bombing in Jerusalem in 2003, his hand was slightly injured in an Israeli Air Force strike attempting to eliminate the Hamas leadership. continued...

RE: A Jewish man speaks out.

In recent years, Hamas had appeared to be more focused on governing Gaza than attacking Israel, but following the October 7 attacks in Israel, it now appears that it was just a deception tactic from Hamas, which used all this quiet time to boost its military capabilities.

Mohammed Deif, the chief of Hamas military wing Al-Qassam Brigades, is believed to be the mastermind behind these attacks. His deception tactics led Israel to believe that Hamas was not interested in launching a conflict and was focusing instead on economic development in Gaza. But while Israel began providing economic incentives to Gazan workers, the group's fighters were being trained and drilled, often in plain sight of the Israel Defence Force (IDF). "We have prepared for this battle for two years," said Ali Baraka, the head of external relations for Hamas.

Hamas leaders claim that an Israeli crackdown on militants in the West Bank, continued construction of settlements, thousands of prisoners in Israeli jails, its ongoing blockade of Gaza, and supposed Israeli violations at the Al-Aqsa mosque pushed it to carry out the attacks on October 7.

However, many also believe that it is Iran, currently the primary backer of Hamas, that pushed Hamas to carry out these attacks at this time in an attempt to foil any potential normalisation deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia, which threatens Iran’s strategic objectives in the region.
Hamas Top Leadership

Following Yassin’s assassination by the Israelis in 2004, Khaled Mashaal, an exiled Hamas member who survived an earlier Israeli assassination attempt, became the group’s leader soon after.

Yahya Sinwar, in Gaza, and Ismail Haniyeh, who lives in exile in Doha and who replaced Khaled Mashaal in 2017, are Hamas’ current leaders. They realigned the group’s leadership with Iran and its regional allies, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Since then, many of the group’s leaders have relocated to Lebanon. Hamas leaders established a presence in Qatar after having a fallout with Syria, after Palestinian refugees participated in the 2011 uprising that preceded the Syrian Civil War.

Hamas’ general policy is set by an overarching consultative body, often called the Politburo, which operates in exile. Local committees manage grassroot issues in Gaza and the West Bank. The Politburo, which is currently headed by Ismail Haniyeh and consists of 15 members, also oversees the Hamas Shura Council, a consultative body which elects the politburo. The Shura Council oversees West Bank and Gaza affairs as well as the affairs of the Palestinian diaspora and Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israeli jails.

The Hamas military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, is currently headed by Marwan Issa and Mohammed Deif. The founder of the Brigades, Salah Shehadeh, was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza in 2002.

The Al-Qassam Brigades oversee independent Hamas militant cells as well as the Hamas government in Gaza, which is headed by Hamas-appointed Prime Minister Issam Al-Daalis.

Two days after the October 7 attacks, the top Israel army spokesman Rear Adm Hagari said during a press conference, “Yahya Sinwar is the commander of the campaign, and he is a dead man.”

The highest-ranking Hamas official in Gaza, Sinwar is the territory’s de facto ruler and the second most powerful member of Hamas after Ismail Haniyeh, the group’s overall leader.
Sinwar was born in 1962 in a Palestinian refugee camp at Khan Yunis, in the south of the Gaza Strip. In his later years, he attended the Islamic University of Gaza, where he graduated in Arabic studies. He was arrested for the first time during his university days, and he befriended Palestinian activists in an Israeli jail and later vowed to dedicate himself to the Palestinian cause. continued...

RE: A Jewish man speaks out.

Yassin, a paralysed man who used a wheelchair, established Hamas as the Muslim Brotherhood’s political arm in Gaza in 1987, following the outbreak of the First Intifada. At the time, Hamas’s purpose was to counter Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), another Islamist fundamentalist militant organisation whose commitment to violently resisting Israel threatened to draw Palestinians’ support away from the Brotherhood.

Yassin, a quadriplegic who was nearly blind, had been reliant on a wheelchair due to a sporting accident at the age of 12. In 2004, he was killed when an Israeli gunship fired a missile at him as he was being wheeled for prayer in Gaza City.

In 1988, Hamas published its charter, which called for the total destruction of Israel and the establishment of an Islamic society in the area of historic Palestine. In 2017, in an attempt to moderate its image before Western audiences, Hamas presented a new document that accepted an interim Palestinian state along the “Green Line” border established before the Six-Day War. However, this new Hamas charter still refused to recognise Israel.

One of the early military leaders of Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, was Salah Shehade, who became a member of Hamas since the formation of the group in 1987. He quickly became one of its most influential leaders and was arrested twice by Israeli authorities, in 1984 and 1988. After Yahya Ayash's death in 1996, Shehade became a top leader in the group, along with Mohammed Deif and Adnan al-Ghoul. Shehade was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on his house on July 22, 2002, which also killed his wife and daughter.

Over the decades, Hamas has vowed to annihilate Israel and has been responsible for several suicide bombings and other deadly terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers alike. The first Hamas suicide bombing against Israel took place in 1993, five months before Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin signed the Oslo Accords. The historic pact established limited self-government for parts of the West Bank and Gaza under a newly created entity called the Palestinian Authority (PA). Hamas condemned the accords, as well as the PLO’s and Israel’s recognition of each other.

Hamas is a designated terrorist organisation in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Israel, though some apply this label only to its military wing. Iran provides it with material and financial support, and Turkey and Qatar reportedly harbour some of its top leaders. Its rival party, the Fatah movement, which dominates the PLO and rules in the West Bank, has renounced violence.

Hamas won 2006 parliamentary elections and in 2007 violently seized control of the Gaza Strip from the internationally recognised Palestinian Authority, which is dominated by the rival Fatah movement. 2006 was the last time Palestinian parliamentary elections were held.
Following the Hamas takeover of Gaza, Israel responded with a blockade on Gaza, restricting the movement of people and goods in and out of the territory, in a step meant to prevent Hamas from developing weapons.

Hamas has always advocated violence as a means to capture territories from Israel while at the same time calling for the complete annihilation of Israel.

Hamas has carried out dozens of suicide bombings and over the years fired tens of thousands of rockets from Gaza into Israel. It also established a network of underground tunnels running from Gaza to Egypt to smuggle in weapons and other materials, as well as attack tunnels burrowing into Israel. continued...
