RE: So who are you not buying a Christmas gift for this year?

For some time now, I estimate what I would have spent on gifts both from my company to clients and personally to friends and relations.
This money is then sent to a Childrens Hospice.
With the government cuts and parents often short of money due to their childs illness, due to costs of travel and care etc, I think this in a small way just makes me gratefull for so many happy Christmas memories, something these children will not be having much longer.

RE: How ready are you to change your life?

Perhaps it is about finding middle ground, when in this situation you would like to be together but here are practical considerations, work, children, aged relatives, etc.
However, maybe a little patience would allow you to work towards an answer?. A long holiday with your proposed partner, we know that you do not know a person unless you live with them for a while, at least a long holiday will provide some guidance.

I have lived and worked in many countries, made good friends and on my travels met some potential partners who did not live where I was based at the time, despite working for an airline where I travelled at no cost, it did get weary at some point, however much you like the person. These situations never worked out.Now I am based in one place it may be easier.

RE: Who should bail-out Europe?

Time for an old man like myself to retire to the hills somewhere and watch the world destroy itself again. We learn nothing from our history, we just keep repeating the same old nonsense with the same results. of course we have to have a war, makes alot of money for the usual interests and kills off enough people to reduce world population and relieves food (in) security.

Then we can all say, "never again" start to rebuild the world economy and in a few decades have yet another financial crisis due to the imballance of the haves and have not's. The answer then is to have a war .......

RE: Who should bail-out Europe?

Anyone who has lived in Africa will tell you that the main problem there is that after years of donations and aid programmes they have developed a "Doner Mentality", i.e."what are you going to give me today?", after 30 years of being provided with huge sums of money by the rest of Europe, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece have developed exactly the same mentality. Here in Portugal, the average "working" person makes no connection between work and getting a pay check, sick days, holidays, anyday they can avoid work they will.

The common element across all these countries is absolute refusal to take any kind of responsibility for anything, let alone for their own country.
Some time ago in Spain, the local corrupt Mayor and local Government were is crisis, they had run up vast debts and stolen so much money that there was none left and large debts. The next election, saw a British man elected as Mayor and he employed some other nationalities to sort out the mess, (German, Dutch, French, etc), the result?, End of corruption, a surplus of public funds and a very happy community. Perhaps a German take over of the EU would be a very good thing.

RE: post Christmas Stories

Hi, Smoky, no problem,it is very kind of you to take the trouble, I still can't work out how to post pics.
Well,as far as the cleaning up went, I cheated, vis the reccommendation of a friend, a lovely older Philipino Lady spent the day helping, clearing and cleaning as the day went, she is single and she had a really nice day and of course, she was well paid for it,she is saving to go back to the Philipines to see her Family, so all were happy!.
The children were great and made the whole event,in one of the pics you see an older Portuguese Lady sitting on a chair chatting, she is a retired infant school teacher, now on her own, she (and the Kids)had a wonderful time.

The holding of an "Open house", proved to be a great success, singles, marrieds, couples from the whole apartment complex mixed very well, lovely atmosphere, we will deffinately do it again next year.

RE: Weak in the knees

It is never what they say, it's the way they look at you ... this tells you where you are at ....

RE: post Christmas Stories

Hi, Smoky,

many thanks for the help, the pics are on their way,
Regards,
Chris.

RE: post Christmas Stories

OOOPs!, apologies, I should have been addressing Smoky!, got my Smoky's and Mariola's mixed up!

RE: post Christmas Stories

Ah that was nice Chris.... WHERE are the photos? (you promised)

Hi, Mariola,
sorry to hear that you were not well, I had three young friends visiting for New Year from Finland and all three got sick, ended up with me playing nurse to three very large guys with serious man flu.

As for not smoking, you must have been ill, I am the same, one hour after a major operation in hospital, I sneaked out the building and had my cigarette.

The pictures are here but I have to admit that I have absolutely no idea how to post them!, I read the instructions but if you would like to volunteer, please let me have your e-mail address and I will send.
Regards,
Chris.

RE: TO MEN ONLY WHAT DO YOU THINK A WOMAN WANTS FROM A MAN????

I think you are right but perhaps I would add that there may be different expectations dependent upon age, all of the above counts but in later years when finding a Partner, (hate that word, always sounds like a business deal!)you may not be looking to have children and maybe build a career. For me it's a true friendship first, there is time enough to develop but having somebody to go and have fun with, discuss the days events and fill in those gaps that us men naturally have. Yesterday, my housekeeper asked if she could re-arrange the apartment, "of course" said I, some hours later it looked so much better, along with many things, it's that female eye for beauty and colour that I miss.

RE: IF A GUY SPLITS THE BILL ONN THE FIRST DATE, IS HE-DATEABLE????

Like some others, I am an old fashioned Man, have always paid, however, things have changed a great deal.
Being taught to open doors for ladies, now you find that these "ladies" will rush through without a second glance and certainly there is no "thank you", so you just give up doing it.
Giving up your seat on a bus/train etc for a Lady, last time I offered to do that the woman just gave me a nasty look and ignored me.
Opening the car door for a Lady, never seen today, I believe that paying for dinner and/or drinks when taking a lady out was based upon the fact that women had no money of their own or certainly earned less than men, this is not true today, (amongst average people) I am genuinely interested in why a younger woman would expect to be paid for?, on what basis?.I am also interested as to how payment (or not) then impacts a mans dating credibility?.

RE: World of women

Now, had a man said that about a woman the Sisterhood would be baying for blood and swearing that there are no desperate women ................

RE: holidaying alone

As I write this, I have three young Finnish guys from Helsinki staying with me really nice Guys and they have been in Lisbon for a week.
These guys have a had a great time, out every night enjoying Cascais, they seem to have clicked with the Brazilian Girls, fun, easy going and dance the night away. These Guys are in their early thirties and well travelled, however they have been to stay with me several times just because they like the local Brazilian ladies.

RE: holidaying alone

Hi, Phoenix, you are probably right, however wandering around buying the ingredients, the preparation and drinking some nice wine while listening to some good music and then the actual cooking is the fun, the result is a good topic of conversation and I would recommend it to you especially, since it is well known that many Nubiles are present for these cooking vacations.

RE: holidaying alone

I first started travelling at around 18 as a salesman covering quite a lot of England, alone and limited to cheap B&B's gave me a good grounding for later wider travels.

The next 30 years saw me travel all over the World on a daily basis, always alone and I had a wonderfull time!, some great stories and adventures and many friends made who I still chat with years later.

Now it is difficult to get me on a plane, I prefer to drive or go by boat, my travels would be better with somebody to share the adventure with but I now choose holidays with a purpose, this year it is travelling down the French Canals for ten days with several other people learning how to cook traditional French food.

RE: People who wear glasses or used to wear .....

Just had this procedure done in lisbon a month ago, the first eye was no problem but a week later the same doctor messed up the procedure, resulted in my having to go to another eye surgeon for advice, he then told me that the first doctor had broken the blood vessels behind the eye due to using too much pressue.

There were also issues regarding cost, the cheapest was in Turkey or India, london was average and then Lisbon reasonable but not cheap ,especially when I had to pay another Doctor to fix the problems of the first operation.

The benefits of having the surgery outweigh the potential problems, I will need glasses for driving but for computer work I now will not need them.

RE: Love at first sight - Is there such a thing?

Yes, it does happen, it is an amazing experience however cynical you are,to have experienced it is to know a completely powerfull inner feeling.

It was on an Island, 40c and along climb up a mountain on my own, arriving at the top at exactly the same time came a Lady, we looked at each other and the next five hours went by in 5 minutes.

RE: post Christmas Stories

Ok, I will ask them but it's a heck of a long way from Lisbon, maybe easier for you to travel?

RE: post Christmas Stories

Mother is lovely Portuguese Lady Doctor, her husband Paulo is also about 2 metres tall and big!

RE: post Christmas Stories

Oops!, sorry forgot about the Nubiles, we have plenty of them here, most are available for New Years Eve, however, they say that they would like your e-amil address so you can send them the air fare to France.

RE: post Christmas Stories

I am glad you asked that, young Matilde got hooked up with Thomas, however, Matilde had a small accident in her pants and Thomas decided this girl may not be for him, (Matilde is 8 months and Thomas is 10 months). Is that what you mean by "dirty bit's"?.

RE: post Christmas Stories

Xmas Day Brunch

Some may remember my asking for recipes for my Xmas Day Brunch for my neighbours, I received so many good recipes and suggestions. Well I made most of them and a lot more besides, the day went wonderfully well.
We had seven different Nationalities here, many children and all went really well, we were supposed to go from 12 O'Clock until 4pm, we actually went on until 1am!.

The idea was that as a single guy always looked after by my neighbours especially during a long illness this year,as a thank you I would cook and provide all the food to give the ladies a break from cooking on Christmas Day, however, they still brought food and drinks, it was a truly heart warming day, the children sang the songs they had learned at school for Xmas, the Ladies made new friends amongst the other mothers and the Guys were to be found in the kitchen discussing important matters such as, motor racing, football and rugby.

A big thank you to all who took the time to send me the recipes,
Kind Regards,
chris.

RE: Say something funny oh funny how??????

My girlfriend accused me of not being romantic enough, so I booked a table for friday night, when we got there I found out that she couldn't play Pool.

Xmas Day Brunch

Hi, Smoky, of course, i will take some pictures, both of food and guests. Guest numbers are creeping up!, might be more like a Restaurant!.
Kind Regards,
Chris.
