RE: So what would you do differently?

I am not saying start legal proceedings against all bankers, builders, developers and public servants. Just the ones thaty have broken the law.

And with every Welfar system you will have people trying to take advantage. Thats no excuse not to have one? You just have to police it well.

The money for welfare increases would be there because we are letting Anglo Irish go bust. This will free up 4 billion a year. The cuts were to save Alngo in the first place.

At the moment our financial syatem is like a house of cards and we are pumping money into a black hole trying to keep it standing in a gale force wind. We have to step back, stop throwing away money and let the pieces fall where they will.

Thisgs can't get much worse.dunno

RE: 2010 horse racing tipster competition

P.S Starluck has no hope of winning the Champion Hurdle. GFo Native has already beaten him. Go Native idled in front that day too. He had his ears pricked and swished his tail. Starluck has no hope of beating the likes of Go Native,Solwhit, Binocular or Zaynar. doh

RE: 2010 horse racing tipster competition

It was obvious????????????? You obviously know as much about horse racing as you do about football. Cooldine was favourite until this morning and if it was that obvious why did you not put the house on it.
No horse racing result is ever obvious or else none of us would have to work ever again.tongue Money Trix finished in front of Joncol over CD last time out and Cooldine had some great form finishing in front of Forpaddytheplasterer at Lep and winning the RSA Chase at Cheltenham last year off a mark of 155. So it was far from obvious. doh doh roll eyes roll eyes

RE: what is my ex's problem?

US Justice

Just to remind posters of the original subject. We seem to have left the point. laugh

US Justice

Well it means that there were no WMD'S (as everyone knows now).

It means Bush was planning a war with Iraq and was looking for any reason.

It means that he never planned on listening to the UN.

And again no UN resolutions gave the UK and the US the right to invade Iraq. They needed permission from the UN to enforce any resolution and the UN still favoured peacefull means.tongue

US Justice

Well the US armed him for his war against Iran so they ended up figting a lot of the weapons they had sold him. So it's like the pot calling the kettle black really. And none of this takes away from the fact that the war was illegal and it was planned from GW's fiest weeks in office. Long before 911.tongue

The chairman of the British Joint Intelligence Committee in 2001 told investigators Monday that elements of the Bush Administration were pushing for regime change in Iraq in early 2001, months before the 9/11 attacks and two years before President George W. Bush formally announced the Iraq war.

Sir Peter Ricketts, now-Secretary at the Foreign Office, said that US and British officials believed at the time that measures against Iraq were failing: "sanctions, an incentive to lift sanctions if Saddam allowed the United Weapons inspectors to return, and the 'no fly' zones over the north and south of the country."

Ricketts also said that US officials had raised the prospect of regime change in Iraq, asserting that the British weren't supportive of the idea at the time.

"We were conscious that there were other voices in Washington, some of whom were talking about regime change," Ricketts said.

The head of the British Foreign Office's Middle East department, Sir William Patey, told the inquiry that his office was aware of regime change talk from some parts of the Bush Administration shortly after they took office in 2001.

US Justice

Well Clare Short should know. She was in Tony Blairs cabinet. tongue

US Justice

Both of those resolutions refered to Kuwait didn't they? It was in no danger from Iraq in 2003? Also before acting on any resolution member states needed permission from the UN. This permission was never given and France and Russia made it clear they would veto any such bill to invade Iraq. So the US and Britain basically gave 2 fingers to the UN and went to war. The war was and is an Illigeal one. And everyday in the Iraq Inquiry in Britain this fact is brought to the fore over and over again. conversing

US Justice

He was GW's lap dog. laugh

US Justice

But Regeime change is not a legal reason for war. It is illigeal for any country to invade a state for such reasons. But the US used the non existant WMD's excuse for their ultimate goal of regeime change in Iraq. They did a similar thing in Afghanistan.
Tony Blair basically admitted that in the British Iraq war enquiry and to Fern Brittan in a UK TV interview.

US Justice

In 2003, the governments of the U.S., Britain, and Spain proposed another resolution on Iraq, which they called the "eighteenth resolution" and others called the "second resolution." This proposed resolution was subsequently withdrawn when it became clear that several permanent members of the Council would cast no votes on any new resolution, thereby vetoing it. Had that occurred, it would have become even more difficult for those wishing to invade Iraq to argue that the Council had authorized the subsequent invasion. Regardless of the threatened or likely vetoes, it seems that the coalition at no time was assured any more than four affirmative votes in the Council—the U.S., Britain, Spain, and Bulgaria—well short of the requirement for nine affirmative votes.

US Justice

On September 16, 2004 Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan, speaking on the invasion, said, "I have indicated it was not in conformity with the UN Charter. From our point of view, from the charter point of view, it was illegal."

US Justice

Really? Think you had an idiolistic view years ago. I suppose it's like when you mention Ireland to non Irish people they picture green fields, horses, thatch cottages,Guinness, Rainbows and Leprechauns. But in real life it is nothing like that.
