RE: So far Away

Been there, done that, burned the t-shirt.
I was in a relationship for nearly 3 years with a gal from Ontario, I live in New Hampshire, the usa. It was difficult, we spent a lot of time together, but it was a long haul and we also had the who-moves where issue.Eventualy it ended and I lost a person in my life who I genuinely considered a soul mate.
Take some advice friend, keep it somewhat local.

RE: Obama Rocks! Can America afford to doubt his new president in the time of trouble?

I'm not entirely sure what your trying to say here, but it seems you define love for your country as blind support of it's leaders. We don't define patriotism in this country that way.
you also post under the premise that there are only two parties in this country and that to opose Obama, one is probably a republican and voted for McCain. Again, another incorrect assumption.
Learn a little about this country before you try to expound on our politics. read our constitution, read our history.

RE: WHERE ARE ALL THE "OLDIES"?

been here since 2005 so I guess I'm what you would call an "oldie" not may folks from those days around these days

Stumping for a friend in BC elections....

Ok Canadian friends, I am not a Canadian, but I am stumping for a friend of mine who is running in B.C. for premeire, Mike Summers of the BC refederation party. This party represnets the only real "change" running in the elections, the conservative, liberal and ndp parties have had plenty of time to get it right and have failed miserably. If you live in B.C. and haven't been to the polls yet, consider choosing a genuine represenative candidate in this election. If you didn't plan on voting because you feel it dos no good and doesn't count, it's time to MAKE it count.
Mike Summers for B.C. Premiere. BC-refed candiates for all other positions.

Stumping for a friend.

hmmm....lol didn't think of that.....thanks cheri :) u rok as usual.

RE: REPUBLICAN RULE NO MORE

AMEN!!!! applause
The republican party is in melt down and becomming ever more fragmented and irelevent. Now if we could just get rid of those damn Democrats too we could get a REAL represenative and constitutional government restored in the U.S. (though I can't imagine what diffrence it makes to someone in sweden). The strangle hold duoloply on power those two parties have held on our government has eroded our republic and has left our founding fathers shaking their heads in shame and their fists in anger at the disgusting shape we have allowed their creation to become, they would never have stood for a fraction of what we tolerate from the government today.
No more Republicans, No more Democrats.
Real change for the U.S.

RE: Should Texas seced from the Union if the US Federal Goverment continues with what its been doing?

I didn't take part in the poll because Texas isn't my state, as far as I'm concerned, they can do what ever they feel is in the best interest of their state.
As for the legal aspects, I think it's a moot point, if Texas decides on secession, legality won't matter.
But it shold be pointed out that the governors comment has been taken greatly out of context and thatTexas is NOT in fact officialy considering this at all.
Now a more important thought. Though we are a union of states, we are STILL a union of SOVIERGN states that have entered in to contract with each other via the constitution. The states ultimately have the authority over the federal government, it in fact does not exist with out the consent of the states.
Texas has a resolution in the pipeline redeclaring it's authority over the federal government, as do nearly 20 other states and THIS is the way we should be going. All we need is enough states standing up for themselves, enough governors and state legislators growing a set of balls. There are only a certain list of specific and limited powers granted to the federal government by the constitution. It is established as a subserviant agent of the states, not an authority over them. The problem is, our states have allowed the servant to become the master. All we need to do is put it back in it's propper place, sessesion is not nessesary, only to reassert the authority we already have and ignore.

RE: How many US American's believe that the US should keep to themselves?

You have presented a straw man argument here, a false choice. We can be non interventionist with out being isolationsist, that is, helping out and acting when our direct interests are threatened, but not interviening entirely when they are not, unless asked buy an allie for help.
I am all for spending the vast majority we spend over seas at home, since it does seem no matter what we do,we are hated by the world. I am all for pulling right out of the U.N. withdrawing our funding and throwing their uselfess blathering assses off our soil. But, I am not for total isolationism, just noninterventionism.

RE: MASS SHOOTING

at least arm the kittens, true guardians of liberty!

RE: MASS SHOOTING

Read up on them!"A gun in the hands of a free man frightens and angers the government, not because they fear the power of the gun, but, rather, the spirit of the man who holds it."That is why they took yours!

"when the people fear the government, there is tyrany, when the government fears the people, there is liberty"There are Laws in place regulating that!

RE: MASS SHOOTING

And then theres this:
A knife attack every 4 minutes; 130,000 per year but ministers still insist crime rates are falling
"More than 350 people are the victim of knife assaults every day in England and Wales, the latest crime figures have revealed....."

RE: MASS SHOOTING

First, to adress the initial original post. I think they should keep a wary eye, more so than they do, but where do we draw the line? If we start talking psychological evaluations for every student we are sticking our toes in to orwellian territory. We must tread VERY carefully when we start talking on this fringe.
Now, for the rest of the thread. I did in fact take the time to read through the entire thread, though, judging from some responses, many did NOT read the entire thread and brought up issues that were dealt with in other posts. Please folks, when discussing important issues in a forum, READ ENTIRE THREADS, not just the original post and skip to the end for your own, READ EVERYTHING.
On to gun control/gun laws/gun bans etc.
To everyone outside the U.S. The right to own guns in this country is more than just the right to own a gun, WE are the ulitmate defenders of our liberty. Who are we to trust to preserve our freedoms from tyrany...our government? rolling on the floor laughing ......Please, these are the people who we were charged with defending our liberty from. THOSE are the people the second amendment was written to protect us from, go read the wording of the amendment:
A well regulated milita, being nessesary for the security of a free state, the right of the people ot keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. ~amendment 2, u.s. constitution.
And a few wordds from one of our founders:
"when the people fear the government, there is tyrany, when the government fears the people, there is liberty" ~ Thomas Jefferson

More gun laws WILL NOT WORK Period. Criminals already break laws, why would more laws make them obey laws? How is that even remotely logical. Seriously? How does that make any sense to you at all? While we're at it why don't we make robbing banks illegal to stop bank robbing.

We have always had guns in this country, to round them up would be IMPOSSIBLE, so they will always be available no matter how many of them you restrict. the only thing restrictions acomplish is to take guns from honest people. To systematicly emilinate or evebn reduce the number of guns in this country is again, an impossibility, YOU CANNOT ACOMPLISH THIS, with laws, round ups or any other means.

Automatic weapons (also called "machine guns") are already illegal in the U.S.

"Assault weapon" is a buzz word. Most "assault weapons" are nothing more then semi- (not fully) automatic versions of normal caliber weapons and are no more powerfull than most hunting weapons.

Knife deaths in schools in this country out number gun deaths almost 80 to 1.

Car deaths among students in the U.S. out number gun deaths by almost 1000 to 1.

The federal government in the U.S. has no constitutional authority to regulate guns

Shortly after the gun round up in australia, crime skyrocketed, leaving the government scratching it's head as to why.... doh

RE: HATE IN THE AGE OF OBAMA

I was here durring his administration, for a number of years actually, believe me, he DID saturate this site and not in so nice a way either.

RE: Liberal or Conservative

Left and right are more about moral and social beliefs rather than political and governence ideology. True, it plays some part, but not nearly as much as we are being led to believe. The left/right false paradigm is a tool used by politicians to keep us devided and squabbling amongst ourselves over what are really non political issues and keeps us from seeing the REAL problem....the politician. A friend of mine in BC canada, the leader of the BC Refederation party and candidate for premeier uses the following anaolgy: You can think of it as a bull fight. The matador is the politician, we the voters are the bull and the matador's cape is the list of false issues.
True political ideology in this country isn't rocket science. It is about the constitution. This is the blue print for our federal government. The constitution is neither right nor left, it is neither liberal or conservative. It is what it is and it says what it says. If we follow it, we cannot go wrong. The problems in this country don't stem from flaws in our constitution, they stem from not following it.
We have been foolishly led to believe that it is a complex legal document requiring law degreas and years of college to understand and interpret, that notion is UTTER NONSENSE. It is roughly 3 pages long and written at todays 8th grade level, the average divorce decrea is far more comlicated.
When we begin to pierce the veil of the whole left/right illusion, we begin to understand all of this and all of the issues we sepnt time fighting over are suddenly realized as irelevent.

RE: 100 days in office for obama

There is no such thing as the lesser of two evils, there is only the evils. To base a vote on that notion is not only a fallicy, it is a moral compromise and a dereliction of civic duty.

RE: Here is what I think is coming people, what are your thoughts?

yep, and they used him the same way they hijacked and used the tea parties....damn shame.

RE: Where is everyone from the las t6 months-2yrs.???????

aw man, I remember sitting here some nights with my ribs hurting from laughing so much....and my blood boiling with some of the political threads, lol. there is NO ONe here now that I recognize anymore.....miss mah ol' crew.

RE: RON PAUL

oh, no doubt, Obama picked up a number of votes from McCain when he took the primaries, also, Paul had a large number of college supporters who switched to Obama, except for the more diehards like myself who see both parties as the problem and voted for Chuck Baldwin.

RE: Here is what I think is coming people, what are your thoughts?

Ogdensburg, huh, cool, I used to spend a lot of time across the river from you in the borckville area, had a girlfriend there.

RE: Where is everyone from the las t6 months-2yrs.???????

I'm still here after 4 years, lol. haven't been for a while though.

RE: Here is what I think is coming people, what are your thoughts?

no problem, thanks for the support, lol, I feel like I'm just pissing in the wind sometimes.

RE: RON PAUL

the problem with that is that marriage isn't even an area the federal government has authority in, gay marriage or otherwise.

RE: RON PAUL

Ok, I'll try to be more specific.
He believes in sound money policies, believes the federal reserve should be abolished and we should return to the gold standard, he is vehametly oposed to continualy spending and printing money.
He is oposed to many foriegn entanglements, was oposed to the Iraq war and believes that we should never go to war with out a congressional declaration, and then only when our direct interests are at stake.
Believes we should pull out of the U.N. and should no longer fund them and that no united state soldier should ever fight under any other flag but that of the united states.
Believes the federal government's role should be no more than the 18 described duties and powers in the constitution, with the rest being up to the states, as per the 9th and 10th amendments. Our federal government was intended in a limited roll, specific polices should be limited to those roles, there are many thngs that simply are the jurisdiction of the states, not the federal government's and they simply should not even have policies them.

RE: Here is what I think is coming people, what are your thoughts?

Just a few things I want to adress that I saw through out this thread.
To the person who asked if our constitution has made us any better. I notice you don't live in the u.s. so I should take a moment and explain exactly what our constitution is. It is a contract, a contract between our states that created a common subserviant agent, that agent being the federal government of the United States. We are far better for it when we our government abides by the limits and specific responsabilites granted to it by the authority of the states and that contract. It hasn't followed those for a while now and as a result, this country is a MESS. Why the states haven't excersized the authortiy they have to put it back in it's rightfull position is a statement about the apathy of the people in those states who elect state governments who are equally apathetic.

To those who view the second amendment as outdated or even dangerous, consder this, in every nation that has practiced strict gun control or outright bans, the loss of liberties has inevitbaly followed, even in so thought free and democratic nations such as the U.k. and Australia, but most notably in places like the old soviet union, WWII germany and China to name a few.
The second amendment is the right that protects ALL the other rights. so what if it's the 21st century? what is that suposed to mean, that it is impossible for a nation like the united states to fall in to tyrany? why are we special? What makes us any more imune than other nations? The founders put the right armed citizen militia for good reason, we leave it there because the moment we give it up or allow it to be taken, the rest will be sure to follow.

RE: RON PAUL

In a nutshell, Ron Paul is one of the few liberty concious, constitution respecting members of congress we have. He is a member of the republican party, but only in name and caucus. He is very much for a constitutional government, limited in it's scope as the founders intended and believes the federal government should stay with in it's bounds. I love this guy personaly, he is one of the few left in either party who truly understands how this country is suposed to be run. Both the democrats and republicans have absolutely decimated any recognizable shred of our country's principals, we need a lot more "Ron Pauls" in office.

Some thoughts on the current state of the union and other misc junk......

*cracks knuckles*
Where oh where to begin.........
Let me start with one side note, if I hear one more person defend Obama or congress by reciting the cliche, oh so predictable "bush blah blah blah" or "republicans blah blah"...I will puke. Is it REALLY so difficult to defend a policy or action on it's own merrit? I supported Bush in the beginning of his administration..well, that didn't last long. So any argument in defense of the current ruling class by invoking the last will be wasted anyway, I can't stand either of the 2 bog box parties.

Of and wasting time digging through one's pocket to find and pull out the other cliche' "he's only been in office for 3 months, give him a chance"...If i see a man attacking a fire with a fire extinguisher, I am more than happey to give him a chance to put it out and even help him, but if I see him running to the fire with thermite and gasoline, do I give him a chance to get there? DO I say "hey let me help you with that?"

So, Bush and the last congress used the constitution as toilet paper, now Obama and the current congress (hmmm looks suspiciously like the last congress) are flushing the toilet.

My list of some specific gripes, off the top of my head and in no specific order and in no way exhaustive and aplies to the current administration as well as things being continued from the last:

the border patrol checkpoint in the middle of my state... 75 miles from the Canadian border,

The presence of united state's military on duty for civil policing on u.s. soil

The two major attacks in the pipeline on the second amendment

The OBSCENE SPENDING SPREE

TARP, (aka the "bailout" that wasn't really a bailout) and the massive transfer of power it brought the federal reserve and created essesntialy a 4th ilegal branch of government

the outright blistering asault on a dollar that was already set up to fail on the debt system it currently runs on

Continual violations of the 10th amendment and centralization of power by the federal government....I want my damn state back, thank you DC.

The extention of the patriot act that I that was put in place by the last king

the bill set to destroy small farms and gardeners

Our states being continualy blackmailed or bribed by the federal government WITH OUR OWN MONEY

So, the over all state of the country. It would seem all but the most government enthralled or are slowly waking up to the fact that it is no longer a matter of republicans vs democrats but the government vs the constitution and the people. People are waking up in droves and they are waking up PISSSED. One can only push people before they begin to push back. 20 state's now have soveriergnty resolutions of some sort in their legislature, sveral have passed already this year as well and they are strongly worded lines in the sand. Tea partie protests are breaking out en mass. In new hampshire, after one soviregnty bill failed, the gallery in the legislature, many of whom were armed, began cat calling to the house floor, hollering shouts of "your foired" and "you don't represent me" and chanting article 10 of our state constitution (right of revolution).

It's getting ugly out there. Last year in the months before the election, in various forums and people I knew, I began to warn people we could well be heading for a seocnd revolution. Most people laughed or said I was exagerating. I feel vindicated now. There has been much discusion in even the biased propganda machines (fox, msnbc, cnn) of that possibility.

Wake up people. Wake up. Our founders entrusted US, the PEOPLE with the duty of guarding our libery and the constitution and we have been asleep at the wheel for far too long. If they are looking down on us from where ever dead guys look down on us from, they are surely looking down on us in shame. We have let the servant become the master.

RE: If you could be anywhere right now...

how to know when your being "checked out"

These days, I'm not about to question what ever hits me, I'll be glad to just be hit.
