Thanks for that. Interesting story - and true. How the legends get mis-construed hey?
Here in Switzerland the 6th December is still celebrated with the old guy dressed in red giving out "gifts" - but the gifts consist of fruit and nuts. He stands in the village on that day and welcomes all the little kids.
His side-kick "Schmützli" dressed in drab brown holds the donkey`s reigns and assists "Sammichlaus" in giving out the bags of nuts and fruits (usually clementines, apples, and nuts). Schmützli doesn`t speak, and the kids are a bit afraid of him.
On the next weekend he appears at the forest hut, where the parents all gather to celebrate his arrival (the local council pays for the fruits and nuts on tables, and parents drink wine/beers ... there`s big fires going to keep warm, while Schmützli takes the kids on donkey rides thru the forest, sausages on bbq, and a lovely day in the snow is had by all.
Here in Switzerland "Santa" Sammichlaus does dress in a sort-of Bishops outfit, not the floppy red hat with pom-pom - he is really quite elegantly attired!
"Santa Claus" plays no real part in the actual Christmas scene, being just a reminder of all the good/bad things one has done during the year
Hello Handsome! I see you are also here now and again ..... like me.
Ja, still happy with my man-thingy, thanks for your wishes. I wish you the same, and even better - because you are younger than me, so you have LOTS to still party about, and even more energy!
Good, your life is taking a turn now, that the world did NOT end on Friday ....... Ja, I agree, that is the trouble with an "international" site - everyone is too far away to actually meet in person.
But ... you know the old saying? "You are where you are, because that is where you`re meant to be"? Well, you are where you are meant to be. So keep your eyes open, and keep chatting up the dolls!
Happy Christms to you. And an even happier and prosperous New Year for 2013.
I`m one of the unavailable members who stays here just for the Forums and the friends I`ve made here. Also I like the games section to amuse myself sometimes, and because it`s all free.
Being an "international" site, it`s not like one can make a date and meet for coffee easily. So, like Maisie said, the Forums are where you "get to know" the others, and how they think and respond to different situations and ideas. THAT is where you find the genuine members! Think of the Forums as the "Cyber Coffee Shop" ?
Before I met my man (here in my village!) I got to know a lot of very nice people, especially those in Malta, and once attended a "CS Get-together" there, where I met them all in person, including some very nice and eligible men (if I was inclined, which I was not, as I had no intention of relocating).
So, stick around, start some interesting threads, and who knows ...... some interesting visitors may prove to be of interest to you?
Ahh .... that is life! Talk to anyone and get on the subject of "sincerity" and EVERYONE is sincere - or believes they are. They are sincere in their own minds maybe, but not always to other people`s standards - or your own.
You will one day find a girl who matches you. Sometimes it can take a lifetime, so have patience.
You use the word "forge" in a relationship. You cannot "forge" a relationship - it will elude you. You have to "give up" and be happy and content within yourself.
To "forge" something, means what a Blacksmith does when he makes shapes out of metal ..... he heats it to white hot and then hammers it into shape. You don`t want to do that to a potential relationship!
Now WHY did you have to mention the Vulture?! That was supposed to be a surprise for Steevyv (the sweet boy). Well I guess he will enjoy to have Vulcan the Vulture - who is very well trained - he will provide Steevyv with lots of fresh meat, especially rats, for dinner every night.
Ooohhh... Steevyv ..... I think you must be my long-lost son-in-law?!
What a sweet boy you have always been! Always buying me such lovely presents!
I am on my way ..... am so looking forward to seeing you again. I`ve made a very special drink for you, been brewing it for the last two years, in that big black cauldron you gave me for my birthday ten years ago........
Actually, the drink has been brewing for 10 years - with all your favourite things in it...... My dead Raven (that you accidentally killed when you sat on it) ...... those rats that you so kindly removed from the barn for me ...... Leaves from my Belladona plant (you remember how you loved to smoke the seeds from it?) .... and a few other ingredients that I know you are going to just love!
You will live forever once you begin to drink this potion! And if you are lucky, you will find a lovely new wifey who knows how to cook, just like ME!
Well of course I have! 50 Swiss Francs is a lot of money, you know ......
Well, I was on my way around the world, but then when I won another 50 bucks, I decided to put it down on a nice house on the banks of the Zurichsee - actually next door to Tina Turner`s house, but then I had to sell it as all her noisy parties going on late at night caused me to not get enough sleep.
So, I bought a forest instead, and built a log cabin in the middle of it, right next to a small river. Only problem now is there`s a big brown bear that comes for a drink every night, and insists on sitting on my front verandah to share my whisky! He drinks too much. And it`s a long way to the village for my donkey to travel, to go buy more whisky every second day.
I guess I`ll just have to leave Old Brown Bear to live in the cabin, and go look for somewhere more peaceful to live?
Or maybe I`ll buy a yacht and go sail on the Med. in peace.
And have enough left over to live off the interest thereafter?
Ja, I would have fun searching out a really cute little place to live in- to buy. I`d look for a wooden shack in a forest clearing. Maybe with "enough" money, I could find one?...and be allowed to buy it? Dunno if the Swiss would allow anyone to actually live in their forests? A stream nearby for water...... .... and a donkey to pull my cart when I need to go into the village to shop.
I find people like you and Maisie and the others who posted so positive here - fantastic!
8 years ago I came to live in Switzerland, in a small "cowtown" - and it was SO interesting to see how different everything is, and how they do things, their culture, all the little village festivals, and customs and traditions.
And on another forum here, I find the ex-pats mostly seem to have such a negative attitude ..... always complaining about the Swiss and their way of life. And insisting on trying to do things their own way, and then wondering why they are ignored by the locals?
Anyway, you do eat a lot hey? No wonder the woman in your life has difficulty with all that cooking! No time to rest!
The wine sounds good. A very good idea.
By the way, how were your grapes this year? Did they also have mildew? The grapes here had a very bad season, with all the rain in summer. We think the wine prices will be very high next year?
RE: Anyone had successful experience of getting a Filipina friend into Spain ?
Ohhhhh at last something romantic happening on CS!Good for you iamamm!
Best of luck to you, and a happy beginning with your lovely lady.
A guy here in my village just got married to his Thai lady - was a long a difficult journey to finally tie the knot, but they managed, in the end.
