i don't mean any disrespect to you for your loss trish, but perhaps there would be less young people dying from problems arising in our society where there is little attention given to teaching young men discipline. It is left to the parents to provide it and encourage their children to pursue activities that do this - but of course many parents couldn't be bothered. If it was mandatory as it is in some european countries they wouldn't have to. At the moment I believe it's only a year which is not really enough to have much of an affect.
My own son engaged in sports like rock climbing and fencing while at college and is still involved in fencing training and competitions and loves nothing better at the dinner table than to recount unfortunate fatal accidents regarding the sport. All I can do is pretend I trust him to not get hurt!

good for you - shows you are a good friend as well as a good mum, not a lot of people can say they are such friends with their kids friends..
OP does seem a tad confused, unfortunately we can never be sure how 'sincere' someone is on the site so it's not a great place to get real help if it's needed..

i have a plan, that when all my hair is completely grey i shall dye it purple and wear bright red lipstick and a string of biggish pearls. i'll own a sport mini cooper and pull up to multi lane traffic lights with a manic grin on my face and eyeball the drivers unfortunate enough to be beside me...then rev the engine just before the lights turn green and zoom off...letting them eat my dust...
