Hang in there old mate. It gets a bit rough in the health dept at our age and takes some adjusting to the limitations it puts on us. Embrace the camera mate and enjoy what time you have. I am waiting for news of the passing of my neighbour of 8 years and friend of 15 this weekend. Jake did 2 tours with RAEME and never was interested in religion.
2001 Honda Valkyrie. Two wheels. That day it was on the trailer going away for the last time and I was saying goodbye. My health is such that I can no longer move something that heavy. As in when you have to push it backward to get out of a spot. There were tears that day I tell you. I have settled for a jeep and 17 foot sailboat now.
Morning all, been through all sorts here. Tend to spend half the year in Cairns with Grandkids and warmer weather, been back in bloody hospital twice but they decided I don't die easy. Have been doing some sailing and some modifications to the boat (A boat is not ever finished until you die) . Greetings to all of my old friends on here.
The nuclear debate always confuses me. All of my life I have had it drummed into me that Atomic/nuclear waste renders territory unusable for thousands of years. If this is true, how do we explain the thriving cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?? Bombed in 1945 (The only known use of atomic weapons against humans, but rebuilt and continuously occupied since the bombs were dropped. Have we been misled on this one??
Hello all, I have been busy in the north visiting Grandkids in Cairns for the last 3 months, just dropped in to say hello and I am home again. I keep forgetting to come here and visit.
Given that we are in the 21st century and equality is the PC status, it should not be international woman's day, more pc to call it international people's day, or even more extreme, international living thing's day.
My current drive has displaced my previous fav. Until I bought this one the alltime fav was my 1965 Dodge Phoenix that I owned in the real early 70s. Now it is the 1994 Jeep Cherokee. It is comfortable, powerfull, and as economic as the Fairmont it replaced. I love it because after a trip I do not feel worn out. And it will tow the new boat.
I have two at the moment and a bike. Their colour was pure chance. I bought the car not the colour because they were a good price at the right time. The bike was because that year Honda built the Valkyrie in Blue with a metallic white stripe.
Yep Rob, much as we may have suffered, it is still a unique experience that can only be understood by those who lived it. And it was a different war for each of us as well.
Yeah, I didn't get called up, in fact I was not allowed to register for national service because before I was old enough for that I had done my time in the Navy and been to Vietnam. I did try to get them to allow me to register, and then I asked to rejoin the Navy or even join the Army and was not allowed. Were we right? We were not there for the reasons they gave us, but to strengthen our alliance with the USA and to increase the chance of their help in the event that the shooting war with Indonesia (Confrontation for us, Confrontasie for them) hotted up even more. Most Australians do not realize that the Army was fighting Indons, in Borneo, and our ships were sinking Indon boats and ships and also having duels with Indonesian shore batteries. The times and the issues were not as simple as is generally believed. Issues? Yep I guess we all have our own, and we will take them to our grave. But hell, I would not have missed it.
I feel I must apologize to all of my CS friends for my lack of appearance. I just don't seem to find the time or energy lately. Perhaps I get carried away in another place (I belong to a very active ex-Navy group). I still have regular contact in another place with a lot, so they will pass on anything of interest. I am also flat out still trying to get the bloody boat finished.
While I can to some extent sympathize with Thorpe, I would like to see some of the media attention devoted to our heroic young men and women who are returning from active service and dealing with border protection. There is a very high percentage of these who are suffering and far too many feeling so desperate that they see suicide as their only answer. They do have the support of every ex service person in the country and probably the world, but let's get the media and the people behind these people who have laid their lives on the line for you and me.
For those who know me from a while back and do not get on Facebook (Am I allowed to say that word? I got banned forever for using it once) I had another hospitalization in November last year and since then have been feeling better than I have in a few years. I had got to the point where I was thinking in terms of months, weeks and even days, bit now think in years again.
Back again after a while
Yeah it OK I am old.
