Ahhhhhh, I'm not falling for that! I'll tell you my size and you'll say "Perfect fit!" and then I'll have to send the guns and things could get really messy for me. No, I've seen enough movies to know better. Show me the merchandise first. Or, at least tell me the size!
In a hard-to-explain way, it's like having company in my home every evening....and I get to choose when they must leave so that I can go to sleep. I have friends here in Greece, but on the nights when I am at home alone, CS brings familiar faces, frequent humor, occasional serious discussion, etc. I, too, enjoy the international aspect and I am so impressed with so many people here who are writing in a language that is not their mother tongue.
I would love to visit Scotland. As for the why part of your question....it looks like it's beautiful, I've liked every Scot I've ever known, and I love to visit places where I've never been before. Yes, I'll definitely visit Scotland some day.
Now you see me, now you don't! Having my usual 5 or 10 minutes online between morning shower and getting dressed for work. Time to move on to the next phase of the daily ritual.
Geeeeeeez, I do so want to sleep...but you keep luring me back!
1. Who said I am a Republican? Who said I'm NOT a Republican?
2. You're right about money saved being money earned (re the energy bills). They're just not at that point yet. But, as I said before, they are taking steps in the right direction here, and that's a good thing.
One last comment before I go to sleep.... Many of the links you posted were for companies who are starting to manufacture photovoltaic panels here. Great! I'm glad to see that. But setting up manufacturing plants now for future use, although a step in the right direction, does not equate to an abundance of solar panels already in use or on the rooftop of a typical home or apartment building here. Yes, they exist, but not to the degree to which you make it sound. It's a growing technology and I'm glad to see it happening, but it's hardly a prevalent trend at this time.
And, please note again...I am not Greek. I don't vote here. I have nothing to do with choosing the elected officials in this country. I'm not sure how else to say that to make it clear.
As for me getting a solar panel for my apartment here? It's not my building. I don't own it.
I've taken you away from the main topic of your thread and that was not my original intention. I'll leave you and Conrad and Indy and TT to carry on now. I'm off to sleep.
I've been to Crete and 13 other islands and have seen SOME solar panels here and there, but the typical island population is so minimal compared to Athens and you don't see solar panels much in this heavily-populated city. Also, many of the fine homes and hotels on the islands are built, owned, and/or operated by foreigners and funded from foreign capital. This is important to note because the incentive...the desire to use solar energy for economic AND environmental reasons is coming from outside of Greece. It's not really helping Greek economy, but it is beneficial to the owners and to energy savings.
As for electing Karamanlis...well, as I am not Greek, I don't vote here. Guess where I vote, Dude????
I've been staying out of this thread, but this post captured my attention. Sun panels on almost each and every roof in Greece? A saved economy? Are there TWO Greeces? I'm not knocking this beautiful country where I live, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a building with a solar panel. And there is plenty of oil here... olive oil! The economy here is in the toilet, Dude. Tourism is down due to the rioting in December and January and beyond; rioting stemmed from frustrations with the government and...hey, guess what...the economy (although the shooting of a teenager by a policeman was the spark that lit the flames, there was a lot of smoldering tension and frustration already). Solar panels on each and every roof here, Dude? Not in MY Greece!
Very good point, Pikengren. I'm wondering, though, how high bail could be set? After all, what is the penalty for pigeoncide? Is it even against the law? I mean, we know that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, but does the same hold true with pigeons? If not, why is this the case? Justice is supposed to be blind....blind as a bat, I would think. So why is the life of a mockingbird more valuable than that of a pigeon? Oh, the injustices in our world!
Oh, no! The expired one? The one that ceases to live? The one who is no more? That's simply preposterous! Or.....is it? It could be, in fact, genius! Why risk a beautiful, talking, UNexpired bird? The John Cleese dead parrot might be just the answer. Plant a microphone under his wing, leave him to lie beneath one of the statues in the pigeon hang-out, with you parked in the white van down the street (the one with the ACME Cleaners sign on the side). You just sit and listen, coffee and cigarettes at hand, and wait. Somebody will know and, sure as I'm sitting here, somebody will squawk. One on the land is worth two in the bush, after all.
How can any of us ever know whether men or women are more jealous? How can we know what is in another's head or heart? Some people exhibit their emotions for all to see....love, jealousy, anger, sadness, etc. Other people keep their emotions locked inside more. We can never be 100% certain about what another feels. We can guess and we can assume, but we can never be sure. I am far less jealous than many people I know....both male and female. 20 years ago, I was far more jealous than I am now. I've matured.
What you need now is an undercover agent. A human just wouldn't work, unfortunately....pigeons can spot a human a mile off. After all, it's no accident that they drop their nasty little bombs on us from above. They know full well what they're doing. No, what you need is another bird that can disguise itself as a pigeon and can tell you what it learns. Perhaps a small cockatoo or African grey. Ideally, if you could convince him to help, get Puck. He's a budgerigar who was credited by Guinness World Records as having the largest vocabulary of any bird, at 1,728 words. Or perhaps Sparkie Williams, a talking budgie who provided the inspiration for an opera performed in Berlin in March 2009. If you could put one of these fine birds in a pigeon suit and have him just sit around on a statue's head in some area where all the pigeons hang out, you might get somewhere. Just hope that the bird's vocabulary isn't limited to "Pretty bird...pretty bird" or a slew of curse words that some 15-year old boy taught him to say.
As of now, three birds have met their untimely deaths. I'd be really curious to know if they were stoned to death and if one stone was used on all of them. I'd heard you could kill 2 birds with one stone...could it be that you can actually kill 3?
I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I started to ask you some questions about all the stuff you took with you, but it's really a moot point and you are already kicking yourself, so I don't want to come along and add salt to your wounds. You know you made a big mistake and now you want to put it behind you and move on. There is no way that you can make him box up your things and take it to the post office and ship it to you. You can ask, you can try...but you can't make him do it. Yes, you would like your possessions back, but I think it's time for you to assume that you won't see them again and truly do move on. Chalk it up to experience and learn your lesson from this. Just don't send him anymore money! If you've already sent enough to cover the costs of sending you your items, and he hasn't done so, more money won't suddenly give him a conscience. Again, I'm sorry this happened to you. But close the door and walk away. You won't find peace until you do.
Perhaps if you gave an example of what you are thinking, it might help. You're not wasting our time, Liakos....you just didn't give us enough of what's inside your head at the moment.
I wouldn't really call it either one (progressive or conservative). There is a wide range of personalities and many varying ideals present themselves here. But, that's what keeps it interesting. If everyone was the same, it would be awfully boring.
Stress, I've only read part of this, to be honest. But your last post about just wanting someone that you are attracted to is .... well, it's honest and real and I am sure that we can all relate to it. There's nothing wrong with that in the least. Attraction can come out of the blue and totally blind-side you. But it's a must. I hope you don't feel that there is something shallow in this, for there is not.
I'm not looking for marriage. I'm not opposed, I'm not saying "Never again", but I'm definitely not seeking it, either. I want to be in love, but marriage is not important to me in the least.
Do we always know that it's going to be a one-night stand? Conversely, how can we be sure that the first time we sleep with someone will automatically lead to a second, third, or more?
I've had one night stands. I don't set out for a basic hit-and-run, but sometimes it happens. I'm not going to lose sleep over it. (Well, not the next night, anyway!). If I bring a man to my bed, I want him there. It's not a lifestyle by any means and it's not random or casual, but there's never a guarantee of a repeat performance. I have to accept that possibility from the beginning and I have to be ok that the end result may be that we only have one night together. Since I wanted to be with him, I will remember it as a lovely night of pleasure. No sense in berating myself over what other people might think.
It hasn't happened often in my life, but it has happened. And so what?
Well, MF...whatever I just said was in response to your thread question. Isn't that how it's supposed to work, or am I mistaken? Anyway, I'm off to work soon, so no more blah blah blah from me until later.
