Sassy, you'd love the coffees here. In fact, when one "goes for a coffee", it's an entire event. You go to a nice outdoor cafe with a few friends, order your coffee, and you sit for hours and people-watch and talk, etc., enjoying being outside and enjoying the company. Coffee....ahhh, there's one lovely smell! There should be a coffee cup emoticon for you! This is the best I can do....pretend that the foam on top is from a latte!
One of my favorite summertime activities is to spend the day at a beach, pop over to a seaside taverna for a nice lunch of Greek salad, grilled fish or calamari, lightly fried zucchini, and a glass of cold ouzo. Yum!
I have learned that, often, as soon as you start getting those infuriating voice menu options, if you press "0", you may get a human. Then, the first thing that I tell them is that I am calling from overseas and I really need to speak to a person. Sometimes it works...but not always, unfortunately. Customer no-service. It's horrible!
Automated telephone services. God, I hate them! When I have to call a business back in the States, I phone the number, have to listen to a long menu of options, press the correct number for what I need, get another list of options, press again, get one more list of options, press again, get told that I am now on hold for the first available "CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT"!!!!, then I get someone, they tell me they need to transfer me, I get transferred to a FRICKIN VOICE MAIL!!! "I'm away from my desk at the moment....please leave your name and number and I'll return your call as soon as possible." Yeah, right....like they're going to call me in Greece. Aaaaarrrrggggghhhh....I just want a human on the other end!
I love the foods, fruits, and vegetables that, just by their very appearance in the neighborhood markets, reminds me that summer is fast approaching. I went to my local market today and picked up some amazing avocadoes, cherries, and some great-looking oranges and tomatoes. I came home and had one of my favorite light lunches...some smoked salmon, sliced avodado, and lots of fresh lemon squeezed on top of it all. I topped it off with a handful of cherries, oh so perfect.
Hi, Urban...haven't seen you here before. Just wanted to mention that you posted this AS a poll, but not in the poll section. No worries, though, as polls don't really mean anything here. Not being in Edinburgh, I can't answer your question. But my night was lovely. Went to a movie (Angels and Demons) then to a nice, lively area for a drink at an open-air rooftop club with a great view of the Acropolis. Lights and everything...no batteries needed.
I am all for well-organized and purposeful trips abroad. I am not so keen on the "graduation" trips...the Cancun jaunts, for example. Not taking anything away from the beauty of the beaches and the Mayan history further south, but these trips are generally designed around a party atmosphere. One must know what their children's weaknesses and strengths are and must know about the chaperones, as was previously mentioned. When my son was 19, I sent him on a trip to Florence, Italy, for a 2-month art study program. He's a talented artist and takes it seriously. I couldn't deny him such an experience and he gained a lot from his time there. I've also met students who are here in Greece for 2-or-3-week study programs. Their schedules are full, they see a lot and do a lot, and they usually seem to be in good hands with their chaperones (those that I've encountered, anyway). I would encourage letting your teen travel abroad...for a purpose and with proper supervision. Our kids need to see as much of the world as possible. Arm them with information (who to call, what to do in case of emergency, etc.) and then allow them to spread their wings. So what if you lose a little sleep from worrying...you can catch up on your sleep when they return. One caveat....one size does not fit all. As I said above, know your teen's strengths and weaknesses, then decide.
I kind of have to agree...it's not one of my favorite songs, either. But I do like Sakis Rouvas, anyway. So far, with what I've seen, nothing blows me away.
LOL, Morgan! Well, this will be the first time I will watch Eurovision. I've heard about it for years, so I'm going to see what they hype is all about.
