Then simply assure myself that it's going to be ok. I will survive this too.

Then make a decision as to the next step. Weighing both the negative step and the positive step in opposite hands.

Then make a firm final decision based on the outcome of thought.

Maybe he is searching still to figure out what love really is. Or at least a definition of love that he can internaly, consciously, and subconsciously deal with.

He may not know what love feels like. If he doesn't know what love feels like and/or doesn't understand what love is, he wouldn't know how to correctly react to a situation.
