RE: I LOVE YOU BECAUSE.......

Because you haven't kicked me out of bed for eating biscuits.

RE: In Four Words

Always, ALWAYS, double tap.

RE: The Budget

I would agree with that if the government itself had no control whatsoever over the bank, otherwise all the cronies would be directors and we would probably be even worse off than we are now.

As for the budget, what ever they give us in the big print, you can be damn sure they will take back in the small print, we all know that this budget is about buying votes, but sorry Edna and I-phone the Moan Joan, my vote does come that cheap.

RE: car insurance

I was quoted some almighty stupid prices earlier this year, all of them claiming you won't get better else where, eventually I did get better else where, and got fully comp for just over 300 with 123, shopping around will force the prices down.

And remember, 2% of the price goes on a levy for PPMA which went to the wall in 1983 (yes, we are still paying for that), and 2% has gone to bailing out Quinn (till at least 2037), as for the rest of the boo hoo, whoa is me, there are too many claims, sob story by the insurance companies, I simply don't believe a word of it.

If you want a good deal, cut out the extras, such as step back and no claims protection, it isn't worth the paper it is written on.

RE: What's in your mind part 28

...or is it the end of the beginning? or maybe the middle of the start, or even the bit before the beginning, which would be the end of something else.....anyway, I am sure there will be highlights on the telly, which would make it a repeat of the beginning of the end. professor grin

RE: What's in your mind part 28

We use to only have an Irish supermarket in the town I live in, and it was more than worth me driving 50km a week to the nearest Lidl to do a weekly shop. Then a lidl opened in the town, soon an Aldi will be opening as well, and I honestly can't see myself ever going back to the so called locally owned Irish supermarket unless they drastically reduce their prices. And before anyone jumps up and down about supporting the local shops...blah blah blah...you for pay for the difference in my shopping bill, and I will gladly start shopping where ever you want me too.

RE: Are you going to cross the border and vote for Daniel in strictly..

....is it that obvious????? laugh

RE: What's in your mind part 28

Were your whiskers tingling like a "spidey-sense"???

RE: Are you going to cross the border and vote for Daniel in strictly..

Well.....when I had my shower this morning my foreskin was still there...so no, not Jewish....and I don't eat deep fried mars bars either, so not Scottish!!! laugh

RE: Are you going to cross the border and vote for Daniel in strictly..

No, and neither can I create mobile phone bills from thin air.... laugh

RE: Are you going to cross the border and vote for Daniel in strictly..

If you or Phoenix want to pay for my flights, mobile phone, accommodation and reimburse me for my time at say, 500,000 Eur an hour, then fine by me.

RE: Are you going to cross the border and vote for Daniel in strictly..

So in order to vote for Wee Daniel, I have would have to either fly or drive at my own expense to Northern Ireland, or the UK, buy or steal a phone, all to send a text to vote on a TV programme I never watch.....and all this for a singer who if the was on the TV I would switch channels or turn it off......er.......no thanks. tongue laugh

RE: Are you going to cross the border and vote for Daniel in strictly..

Wee Daniel is doing what now???? Then again I do I care....er.....no.

RE: Refugees

After decades of politicking, funding this war, that war, this uprising, that uprising, usurping and interfering in the Middle East and Africa, what have we come too? What has it all achieved?
A 3 year boys dead body washed up on a beach?

Makes you want to weep really.

RE: How fast can you type...

Any fellas rememberer the wood work rulers......with the brass tips.... ouch!!!!!

RE: Refugees

Either way, they poked the Russian bear, and the bear bit back.

RE: Refugees

And let us not forget how Europe jumped for Joy when the President of the Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, was ousted from power by a popular uprising in 2014, because he wanted closer ties with Russia rather than the EU. How loudly the EU sproclaimed it would stand with the Ukrainian people in solidarity.....that was of course until the Russians brought the guns to the table knowing Europe was all talk.

And a year and a bit later on......how much do we here about European solidarity with Ukraine, or what is left of the Ukraine.....eff all.

RE: Insurance Hike!!

I have always shopped around, this year I was quoted the stupid price of 650 for 3rd party fire and theft by one company, (no points, no convictions, and more than 5 years no claims) on a 1.6L petrol car, ended up getting full comp from another company for 300, now that is some price difference.

Shop around folks, that will drive the prices down as well.

RE: Insurance Hike!!

Strange, what I heard on TV recently from an AA spokesman was that it was a combination of bail outs of insurance companies or levies (5%), legal fees, previous price wars, and uninsured drivers driving up (pun intended) the costs, from what I recall insurance fraud wasn't even mentioned.

I think this down to good old fashioned capitalism, and them charging what they think they can get away with. All the more reason to shop around.

And don't get me started on the scam that is health insurance either.

RE: what is the meaning of life

I asked Monty Python, they said to ask Gay Byrne, he said to ask Douglas Adams, and he said 42.

RE: charity muggers

I hate those charity muggers, I have never even heard of most of those charities, and that always makes me suspicious, I will only donate to local volunteer groups/charities now, cos I know 90% plus of what I donate actually goes where it is suppose too, not into commissions or fat cat salaries. So if you are stopped by one of them, you should ask them how much in every EUR goes to where it is suppose too, and if they can't answer, walk away.

RE: Irish Water - Will you pay the bills?

As a side note, I hope ye all apply for your water conversation grant, after all, how many times in your life are you ever going to be given 100 yoyos by the state for nothing. applause

RE: Drinking at home alone

I will often have a couple of cans at the weekend watching a good movie, a trip to the pub is only an occasional thing, it is just too bloody expensive going out every weekend, I would rather save my money for a damn good holiday then give it over too a publican.

RE: Skinny tax

As they eat less, they pay less already. professor

RE: Irish Water - Will you pay the bills?

Unfortunately there are many people, far too many people, in this country who will do what ever they are told too, they are so use to living on their bended knee, doffing the cap to the local lord (TD, Councilor, priest), yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir.

It has been ingrained into at least 4 generations that the state knows best in all things, that questioning the powers that be is a crime in itself, and retribution will follow any dissenters, that the government are always right and can never be wrong.

Even after all the scandals, the tribunals, the national humiliation of the bail out, there are people who will still jump through hoops just because the TD told them to, we don't work for them, they work for us, we should never fear them, they should fear us, about time people realised that.

RE: Irish Water - Will you pay the bills?

If you want to see what a disaster IW has been just read the EUROSTAT report, it didn't just fail on the fact people aren't paying, it failed on its entire set up and structures.

No one has to actually pay 1 cent until the 4th bill, there are no sanctions whatsoever against you until then, and even after that, they will have to let the bill run up to €500.00 before they can even begin proceedings against you to deduct from your income, and to do that takes at least 2 court appearances, as only the courts have the power to impose such penalties against you, not IW. All all that can't happen until 2017 when you reach the €500.00!!

If IW does fail, and I sincerely hope it does, all those who have paid up haven't a hope in hell of getting their money back you will then have paid a 3rd time (at least a 3rd time) for absolutely nothing.

An end to Quangos??? An end to cronyism?? An end to stroke politics???

No ENDA to any of them!!!!!!

RE: Etiquette, Has It Gone Too Far?

I have a thing about that term "Guys," for some reason it irritates me, I think it is just another over friendly Americanism that has crept into general conversation, it presumes that you are now instant friends with someone you have never met before, and may never meet again, sorry, but a friend is something way more than that to me.

I even hate the term Friend on facebook, most of the friends requests I get are from people I have never met, let alone consider an actual friend, so unless I have actually met and like you, don't bother sending me friend request.

RE: Collections for charity

Unfortunately we get the politicians we elect, after the last election, with all the grandiose promises made, I posted a comment here, "let the excuses begin," and I was slagged off by some people for it, I doubt they would be so ready to slag me off now. NEVER EVER trust someone who offers you the Earth, because it isn't theirs to give, and that goes for every politician regardless of political party. I vote based on the premise of who I think will do the least damage, rather than the best job.

RE: Collections for charity

How about a couple of posters printed up, using a home computer, put up outside telling people a collection is going on, what for, and what the money will be spent on, most just have a bucket at the end of the till with a club name on, and no info at all about how the cash will be spent.

RE: Collections for charity

I am not expecting a full song and dance routine, or fire works, but some of them won't even say "thank you," they just stand there expecting people to donate, and if you don't they give you some nasty looks.
I guess the real problem I have is that I have no idea where the money goes with these clubs at all, or what they are spending it on, for all I know it is going to the club bar to subsidies the booze for their members. So a little more info on where the money is going wouldn't go a miss.
