I have a couple of theories as to why the country is so divided. The country is being run by a bunch of lawyers. The only thing a lawyer knows is that there is a prosecutor and a defendant. Both sides use sleight of hand to try and convince everyone that their side of the story is true.
My other theory is that we have an alarming number of people in this country with a "Peter Pan" complex. They never want to grow up. They never want to accept responsibility for anything, especially their own actions. They never want to have to face consequences for their actions.
I remember I wanted to be outside and my parents and grandparents made me watch it. They told me I was witnessing history being made. Guess they knew what they were talking about.
Sounds to me like the real issue is that your family doesn't believe in your choice of profession. This can usually give you more drive and desire to succeed than if they had supported you. I think you should become a smashing success and then sit back and

Illinois also has one of the higher fuel taxes in the country. The rates on the Illinois Tollway jumped 400% for commercial vehicles and they "leased" the Skyway toll road to a foreign investment firm. Higher taxes only means more out of control spending.
Just look at the mismanagement of funds from the Highway Trust Fund. Look at the mismanagement of funds from Social Security. The Senate cafeteria hasn't turned a profit in years. The food stinks, the service sucks and it is only a cafeteria.
If we allow the government to get involved in our healthcare, our system today will look like the golden age.
The more that the American people look to the government to "help" us with our problems, the more dependent we become on the government. The more we depend on them, the more freedom is stripped from us.
So a government sponsored health care plan is going to be voluntary? Sure it is. Just like Social Security and Medicare tax is voluntary. We are handing our freedoms to the wolves on a silver platter.
Unless people wake up and take back personal responsibility and accountability, we are doomed as a nation.
Adult stem cell research is on going. The reason you never hear about that is because private investors are funding that research. The reason that private investors are involved is because there are already cures with this research so there is money to be made.
Embryonic stem cell researchers need government funding because there are no cures now or anywhere in the forseeable future from this type. Since this country is in such sound financial shape, let's throw more of our tax dollars away.
Take a look at the Highway Trust Fund. The money is collected through fuel and usage taxes, licensing fees and other taxes to maintain the road systems of this country. A majority of the money is used for everything except maintaining our highway system.
Most of our politicians are lawyers. They wouldn't know about reality if it slapped them in the face. What they do know is how to twist facts to make them look the way that they want you to see them. That is what a lawyer does.
Anytime the government gets their grubby fingers into anything, it instantly becomes a nightmare. Let's raise taxes substantially to help everyone have affordable healthcare. Just like social insecurity, the government can then siphon off a majority of the money to fund everything except for its intended purpose.
