He is facing an up hill climb, via the economy, 2 wars etc. The victory is; a black man is now the most powerful person within a country where only a few decades ago, they weren't even allowed to vote. What does that say about the U.S.A. ? It says that America has grown up. It no longer thinks as a six year old garnering it's toys. America has voted for itself, to regain the respect it once had within the global community.
Whether Obama succeeds or not as President, he has changed the thinking of the world.
Tonight, I can go to sleep with a warm feeling in my soul that change within the brotherhood of humans is possible.
It's still too close.....but I opened a bottle of Whyte & Mackay anyway, in a pre celebration of a world event. McCain is a good man, but his time has come and gone as a representative of what the U.S., used to be. (I won't blame him for bombing Vietnamese innocents) He learned from the experience, to a point.
I believe that the once golden standard of the U.S., may be somewhat restored through Obama. However, I think I understand where you're coming from and agree with you on many points.

At my age, I remember seeing "Black", drinking fountains and washrooms in parts of the U.S. In 1965 blacks took their lives in their hands just trying to vote in the South. A giant leap for the collective consciousness of the U.S.A. Many of us may never see such a giant leap again in our lives.
Because Obama has a worldly intellect as opposed to the old destructive 50mm cannon way of thinking. The world is watching and if Obama wins, it may inspire other countries still re-living history, to consider change as well.
