Popeyes

They just opened up yesterday
Popeyes
I went there today and got some sides
Cajun fries, rice, and a biscuit
They opened up 5 Guys in December
They have fries cooked in peanut oil, made to order burgers
And free peanuts
Chipotle has made from scratch guacomole
Chic Fil A has great salads with crunchy peppers
Eating out is something I love to do
With all the great choices out there
You probably do too!

About this poem:
Ate out at a restuarant last night that reminded me of Friedman's that closed up around 2000. They had Bacos for their salad bar, which I had only seen at Friedman's before. They also have the same fish buffet on Friday night. Another thing that was neat, all additional cans of pop are free after the first one.

Free Food

My two favorite words
Free Food!
Love to eat
Especially when it doesn't cost me a thing
How many people are addicted to free food?
Plenty!
Food stamps have become an addiction in this country
Many choosing to be parasites when they could work for their food
Many having babies they expect the government to feed
How much of this food is actually good for you?
Try eating without the words high fructose corn syrup
It is everywhere
You would have to become a vegan to avoid it completely
So I love free food
But it sure ain't free

About this poem:
Got some free donuts, pop, and pizza today at work. Enjoyed it very much, but why did some of the mean workers in my department buy it for everyone? I guess it was still nice of them.

About this poem:
I have been reading The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits. It had every song from 1955 to 2000 that made it into the top 40 count down. When I was growing up in the 80's I would listen to Casey Kasem and Rick Dees count down the songs. I got a lot of good music from listening to the radio on Sunday afternoons. They still have the Rick Dees on 106.1 on Sunday from 7 to 11 am. The last part of this poem is from the Carpenters.

Pills

Pills
They come in different sizes
Some are hard
Some come in a plastic like capsule form
Why do they cost so much
My doctor prescribed me two medications
That came to over 1,000 bucks for a three month supply
I won't take them anyway because if I start I can't stop
Stopping them might give me a heart attack
What about the disabled who don't have to pay the bill
They must have thousands of tax dollars wasted by greedy doctors
Doctors more interested in their brick driveways and castles
Than the real health of their patients
If doctors really cared
They would tell you to eat right and exercise an hour a day
Not give you poison pills

About this poem:
The price of those meds about gave me a heart attack. I couldn't believe it. I have a friend who is on disability and he is prescribed hundreds of dollars worth of meds each month, most he doesn't even take, but the bill still goes to the taxpayers.

Super Bowl Commercial

It can be hard to know when you need a new job
As a rule if you hate going to work every day
It may be time
If you hate going to work every day
And your coworkers don't respect you
It may be time
If you hate going to work every day, your coworkers don't respect you
And you wish you were somewhere else
It may be time
If you hate going to work every day, your coworkers don't respect you
You wish you were somewhere else
And you cry constantly
It may be time
If you hate going to work every day, your coworkers don't respect you
You wish you were somewhere else, you cry constantly
And you daydream of punching small animals
It may be time
If you hate going to work every day, your coworkers don't respect you
You wish you were somewhere else, you cry constantly
You daydream of punching small animals
And you sit next to this guy
It may be time
If you make loads of money
It may not be time
But if you make loads of money, you hate going to work
No one respects you
You wish you were some where else
You cry constantly
You daydream of punching small animals
And you sit next to this guy
It's probably time
As a rule

Kmart is Closing

Kmart is closing
And I know why
This Walmart effect makes me want to cry
The people have spoken with their money
But I don't think it is funny
The good jobs
Well they are going away
Being replaced by jobs with no pay
The benefits are too small
And the kids they are trying to raise just want to bawl
The internet is part of the problem too
Macy's stores are closing around you
So where are the people supposed to go
To reap what they sow
The billionaires laugh at the plight
Of this unfairness day and night
March is when Kmart is going to close
Get 20% off a pair of panty hose!

About this poem:
Saw two people standing with signs advertising 20% at Kmart today. The wind chill must be below zero. I am suprised they lasted this long. My job was cut two weeks after one of these Walmart superstores opened in 2006. For every one of these Walmarts that open, 300 jobs are cut from the community, and replaced by 330 Walmart jobs that have far lower pay and benefits.

About this poem:
I love to eat out. I am going to Texas Road House tonight. Just imagining a restaurant that I would love. If you have ever had king crab, it is quite a job cracking those legs. They used to provide scissors, but someone must have gotten hurt, so now I bring my own when I visit Red Lobster.

Ghosts at Work

My friend told me about the ghosts at work
Three of them that act like a jerk
Turning on radios when he would walk
The sound of foot steps without the ring of talk
Hiding his three-wheeled bicycle in different places
Closing doors to the outside in darkened places
Who are these ghosts that haunt this place
One was killed on a press that destroyed his face
The two others are older ghosts from another time
When bowling alleys and pins were made when a dime was worth a dime
They want their privacy like anyone would
See, it is you who are in their home doing no good
Soon they will have the place all to themselves after December
Until the wrecking ball comes some day to render
A place they once called home
To haunt and to roam

I'm Ashamed

I'm ashamed
I'm ashamed of my weight
my teeth
my complexion
my income
my work place
my apartment building
Our treatment of other countries like Iraq and Afghanistan
Our bullies who never get the punishment they deserve
The way we treat gays and lesbians
The way we treat the elderly
The way we treat the students and college students in this country
The massive debt of college loans and national debt
The litterbugs
The people who yell
The people who don't visit their parents
People on cell phones in public
Potholes
Roundabouts on the street
Walmart and the treatment of their workers
President Obama and the rest since I have been born
The drug laws
Our prison system
Drones
Bottled water
Music after the 80's

A Day Off

This is the first Saturday of the year
And I have the day off
I am so glad because last year
I drove in the snow
And slid my car into a curb at work
And spent 660 dollars to get it fixed
I had to work some other year
Where we only worked two hours
And get some stupid meeting before we could get out of Dodge
Today I put my tree away and all my Christmas decorations
I also cleaned out my oven
Because I cooked a turkey way back in November
And the juices ran out onto the bottom of my oven
I should have cleaned it right away
Because I cooked a pizza the other day
And had old turkey smell in my apartment
Gross!
So tonight I will go watch some hockey fights
Maybe get lucky and get hit by a puck
It has been 24 years since the last puck hit me in my shoulder
Eat some pizza
Drink some pop
Watch my dvrs and see if the Lions won tonight

About this poem:
As we end another year I was thinking back to some good songs from the past. My favorite from George Michael who passed away on Christmas this year was Careless Whisper which was the number one song for 1985. We lost David Bowie, Prince, and Carrie Fisher this year. I looked at the songs from the last few years and I have nothing to take from 2016 to add to my music collection. Happy by Pharrell Williams was the last song I liked, and that was two and a half years ago in 2014.
