Burnout

Bu-bu-bu Burnout!
Burnin out, burn out, burnin out, burnout
Wa wa wa
Burnin out, burnout, burnin out, burnout
Wa wa wa
It's not just here, it all over the nation
Covid, Ukraine, and run away inflation
We wanted to party and get a little rest
But the workers had already headed out west
So the boss says yes
As for the rest of you
Let's all get to work and do the burnout!
Now I can't even think
And I can't even sleep
All of these hours got me feelin like a creep
But the homeless remind me it could be a lot worse
Even though, I still want to f@#$in curse
It just ain't fair
Well, look over there
Lots of other people doin the burnout!

Vlad To The Bone

On the day I was elected
The Russians gathered round
And they gazed at a wonder
at the joy they found
But the Ukrainian spoke up
Said leave this one alone
She could tell right away
That I was bad to the bone
Vlad to the bone
Bad to the bone
V-V-V-Vlad, V-V-V-Vlad
Vlad to the bone
I broke a thousand hearts
Before I met you
I break a thousand more honey
Before I am through
I want your country pretty baby
Yours and yours alone
I'm here to yell ya honey
That I'm Vlad to the bone

World Population

I first thought about it in eighth grade
This world population was getting too big
Back when Jesus was around it was only 200 million
That was what mother nature intended
They discovered cures for things that kept us in check
Now we are a virus on this wonderful planet
We got too smart for our own good it seems
We'll be 7 billion by the end of 2011
I shouldn't care about this but it hurts
The jobs and the animals are being destroyed by it
The water, the air, the plants and animals are being destroyed by it
So I recycle, I don't litter, I do what I can
but I feel like a samonella bacteria
confused and choking on the crap of all the others
How big will we get?
Will we ever go to Mars?
Will we ever find a solution?
Or will we just recycle another soda bottle?

Las Vegas

I went to Las Vegas on Valentine's Day
This was my love gift to myself
I was supposed to go in 2002
But I got sidetracked by Yellowstone in Wyoming, Devil's Tower
And Mt. Rushmore
So I flew this time
The last time I flew was in 2019 out to California
This time I has to wear a mask
No boxed lunches this time around either
So I also had to fly to Charlotte, North Carolina, then onto Vegas from there
This took me from 2 a.m. getting up to drive to Madison
Then I was late by five minutes which made my flight passes invalid
Luckily I had nice people that still accepted them
I got to my room around 4 pm at Circa by Freemont Streeet
I ate at the Heart Attack Grill around 5 pm
I almost got run thinking Freemont was a closed off street
It's not, there is cross traffic about half way down it
I went to see the Statue of Liberty and the Strat
I went on a ride that shoots out over the edge of the Strat at over 1,000 feet up
Then I got off the bus about 2 miles too soon and walked and ran
Through dangerous streets of Las Vegas, ate at White Castle
And flew the next day
It was an accomplishment, but it was exhausting!

2021

I had more hours than last year
I went to Maine and ate lobster and saw the ocean
I got hit in the head with a hockey puck after watching hockey for 30 years
I got a cell phone at the end of June and spent a ton of time on it
I found the song Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
I visited my mom in the nursing home after she lost her house
I went to a Brewer's game and saw a lot of confetti
I went to Chuck E Cheese in Onalaska, Wisconsin and saw the band
I hope you have a fun 2022!

Burnout

I used to work a 40 hour week for a livin
But now it's 54 hours this week
66 hours next week
Lots of extra money
But
I don't care about all of that
All I really want is my forty hours a week back
The money does add up
For those who enjoy being there then good for them
I don't like that place at all
It really is painful for me to be there any hours above the 40
Pain from the mean people, my hurt knees, feet, back, and head
Lack of sleep
Just being tired of being around all these fellas I'd wish I had never known
With the dollar losing it's value daily
It's no wonder many feel that working 40 hours a week for a livin
Just ain't a livin
It's just scraping by

Dear Santa

What do I want for Christmas?
End slavery in places like the Ivory Coast so my Reese's can be made
With people who are paid a livable wage with good working conditions
Get rid of the masks so don't have to breath in bad air
Give me some snow, it snowed a few times in November, but nothing yet in December
Get rid of drugs like meth so other families don't have to go broke
Make it so all nursing home residents get visits from their family members instead Of the pitiful four percent that do get a weekly visit
Make it so I don't have to be afraid when I go to work
Make people good so they don't harm others with their words or their actions
Make Biden step down so we can get a good president like Bernie Sanders
Give me the ability to hit a good consistent golf swing so I can join the PGA and get paid doing something I love
Make music as good now as it was in the 80's
Bring my dad and Michael Jackson back from the dead because I miss them
Make people be happy and well taken care of at all times in their lives
Give me a house so you can come down my chimney

Good Drive On Good Friday

I drove to the Kennedy Mall in Dubuque
I went to Hallmark and got my favorite ornament
It's Clark Griswold from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
He is holding up a knot of Christmas lights to put on the roof of the house
There is dialogue from that scene that plays when you press a button
I also got The Far Side page a day calendar, one for me and one for a friend
I drove around after that and just looked at all the cars and all the shoppers
Then I drove to Kieler and played a pinball game, but the ball got stuck
Then I drove to Walmart in Platteville and played my motorcycle racing game
I got second as my best out of three times
I counted the road signs on the way and averaged over 10 signs every mile
Mile marker signs, speed limit signs, advertising signs, wrong way signs
Lots of metal posts with information on them
The best part of driving for me is singing
So I had about two hours of that
I hope your Thanksgiving and Black Friday were fun too!

No Place For The Holidays

There's no place for the holidays
It got taken away by meth
There's no place for the holidays
And the holidays will never be the same
Back in 2018 we had our last
But the last two went right into the can
We had a home but only five showed up
And we had the same again last year
There is no place for the holidays
In 2021 we're on our own
There is no place for the holidays
And it looks like the next time I see these people will be at the next funeral

Eating Thanksgiving Food

I bought my first pumpkin pie yesterday
I also bought some cool whip
I like my pumpkin pie cold
I also had some sliced turkey
The mashed potatoes and stuffing await as they take more time to make
I also have a can of cranberry sauce I will have to open soon and enjoy
I think of Thanksgiving and how the Indians have a day of mourning
They lost their good land and many lives
They had one good meal with the pilgrims in 1621
I also think of the homeless
We had a guy who had lived outside our town for about two weeks
He had a bicycle connected to a cart with tarps and solar panels
I saw a youtube video of him and he was about 20 miles away by Montfort
I also think of the balloons they have at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Spongebob is my favorite
So it's food, pilgrims, Indians, homeless, and balloons
Oh my!

About this poem:
I am getting a turkey and a ham at work in about a week, I'll have to save the wishbone. I know that neither Indian or native american is the proper term, but I can't remember what they were called in Massachusetts. I also noticed the butter I buy no longer has an Indian woman on it.

The Day Before Halloween

Twas the day before Halloween
And all through the town
Lots of creatures were stirring
Even a kid dressed up as a triceratops
All the decorations were hung from the backs of cars with care
In hopes that trick or treaters would soon be there
Then what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a kid as a ninja and an adult as a skeleton
More rapid than flying witches they came
And I shouted and called them by name
On goblins and ghouls and children too young for preschool
On cops and nurses and princesses and cowboys
And a girl from the movie Beetlejuice
A cheerleader and a scary pumpkin warlock too
And I screamed as they faded from sight
Happy Halloween to all and to all a good night!
