Another Great Singer

Billie Eilish won five grammies this year, best new artist was one of them
Sam Smith, Fun, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, Arrested Development
Mariah Carey, Bruce Hornsby and the Range, Sade, Cyndi Lauper,
Culture Club, Men at Work, Sheena Easton, and Christopher Cross
Were the other best new artists during my purchasing of music
Which started in 1983
I saved for a long time as money was scarce
I tried to get as many hits on each record
I think by getting music for free has killed a lot of good music from being made
I don't know if we will ever see the explosion of good music from the 80's
A good song back then meant you could be rich
Sting made over one million just off of Every Breathe You Take
Record sales were a major part of earnings back then
Now it is live performances

About this poem:
It is like looking for a needle in a hay stack to find a good song out there these days. When I was growing up in the 80's, it was hit after hit after hit, I was lucky to live at a time when Michael Jackson moonwalked.

Impeach

Donald Trump
Seems this word is spoken so often it gets sickening
What about the other presidents
What could they have been impeached for
Nixon for extending the Vietnam War
Ford for pardoning Nixon
Carter for screwing up the economy
Reagan for exporting jobs and crushing unions
Bush for writing up NAFTA
Clinton for passing NAFTA
Bush Jr. for going into Iraq
Obama for creating millions of deadbeats on welfare
Trump for not paying taxes and allowing rich people not to pay taxes
The American voter for voting in all these slimeballs(I voted for Clinton + Obama)

Dad Died Yesterday

You trapped and scared a buck by slapping your oar on the water
You fell out of a tree while using a monkey vine that couldn't support your weight
You took 3 hours to cut out a log I backed over while we got wood for heat
I dented your truck(sold to someone who still uses it here in town) before fishing
You gave me your left over steak you got at Friedman's
You gave me my first car, a 79 Chevette
You hunted ginseng and morel hunted
You fished for catfish with trotlines
You cut down trees and didn't get hit by them
You drove semis at a pig slaughterhouse that is now an open field in Dubuque
You raised four children and had grandchildren living with you from time to time
You helped me get aluminum cans where I made 400 bucks one summer
You are missed

Mama Quotes

He wouldn't be hankerin after fancy deserts if he'd take more of his meals at home.

If she doesn't know what she's missing, she can't be missing much.

Tell her to keep the cats and get her boyfriend fixed.

You could look up disgusting in the dictionary and there'd be a picture of this.

I never go any place where they have more forks than food

About this poem:
I got lucky enough to see Vicki Lawrence in concert on November 5. She did half the show as herself and the other half as Mama Harper from the TV show Mama's Family. She said it was the first time she forgot to wear her glasses. I spent ten dollars the first time because the woman told me all the seat were sold out. Finding out later that she was confused and there were plenty of seats, I had to purchase two more tickets for 70 bucks and give the standing tickets to a friend of mine. At least I got three other people I knew to see her.

To Be Snow Or Not To Be Snow

To be snow or not to be snow
That is the question
Whether tis noble to go out and try to make it to the hockey game
Or stay home and be out 32 bucks for two tickets
And by going out into that frigid mess and die
To sleep no more
And by a sleep and say we end
The frostbite and a thousand little pins of pain shooting across my foot
To consume overpriced pizza and Mt Dew
To dream of an income that will allow me to partake in souvenirs
When I will shuffle off this wild hockey puck
To die, but I know my chances to sleep no more are better at a baseball game
Or if I was in England, at a football(soccer) game
Those hockey players are fit and brave, and there's the rub
For they practice many long hours and they have my utmost respect
They will bear the boos and scorns of the crowd if they fail to score enough goals
The other team will be consumed with pride
And in that pride will be consumed with lost love
Of their few fans who made the perilous trip from Chicago, the windy city
To go back and grunt and sweat under a weary life'
A life like the Chicago Bears and the gun-toting cowards that live there
And lose once again in the name of pride and inaction

About this poem:
I have gotten many gifts over the years. I wore my sister's gift of a Galena Golf Club shirt on Christmas since she and her whole family didn't show up for Christmas. It would have added 19 people to the celebration. It was just me and a friend, my mom and brother, and my nephew who wouldn't join us as his dad was mad at him for not getting a job for over five years now.

2020 Resolutions

Use less plastic straws
Use less plastic bags
Save the planet
Eat more fruits and vegetables so less cows and pigs are raised in factory farms
Watch Dr. Phil so i can be a more sensitive man
Walk more so my car doesn't spew out harmful toxins that cause global warming
Continue to have no kids so the world won't be overpopulated
Don't hunt so wild animals can live in peace
Don't drive after dark in rural areas so I don't hit deer with my car
If the water's yellow let it mellow, if the water's brown, flush it down
Follow and support Greta Thunberg
Eat foods that arn't wrapped in plastic as much as possible
Keep myself informed on global warming and polar bears

Christmas Tree Ornament

I bought another Christmas tree ornament
It's from the movie National Lampoon's Vacation
It is Marty Moose saying
Sorry folks
We're closed for two weeks to clean and repair Americas favorite family fun park
Sorry!
HuHu HuHu HuHu
The one I bought last year has Clark standing next to some luggage
With his Marty Moose hat on
The family is singing
Who's the moosiest moose we know
Marty Moose
Who's the star of our favorite show
Marty Moose
M is for merry, we're merry you see
O oh gosh, o golly o gee
S is for super star family glee
E is for everything we want to be
M A R T Y
M O O S E
What does that spell?
Marty Moose Marty Moose Marty Moose!
Yuk! That's Me! Huhuhuhu!

About this poem:
These are my first ornaments that have sound. I get one every year. In 2012 when I was out of work I found a picture ornament in the trash. I have an ornament from a student when I taught for two years. Some I got at an auction of my parents stuff, they date from the 60s. I have two I made in school around the second grade in 1976.

Soylent Green

Soylent Green
It's People!
And it's delicious!
We take only the finest people to make our Soylent Green wafers
They look like Triscuits
but they have all the nutrition you need
When you're on the go and just don't have time to cook a meal
Soylent Green taste really good
For a meal or just a snack
You'll love em!
From Nabisco

About this poem:
I was watching Soylent Green with Charlton Heston and thought of a commercial for these wafers set in the year 2022, about three years from now. In the movie, New York City has a population of 40 million people. Tokyo has the largest metropolitan population at 32 million, New York City has a metropolitan population of 19 million people.

Thanksgiving Day

Made all the food ahead of time
Just throw it on a plate and microwave it
Started out with green bean casserole
Moved onto mashed potatoes and campbell's brown gravy
A little cranberry sauce while I watch Astronaut Snoopy
Spongebob balloon and many others
All flying close to the ground because of high winds
I get a call from Mom while I'm eating turkey
My nephew wants to eat Chinese, but they're closed
Only McDonald's is open
So Mom says they will figure something out later
I tell her I have to eat right now so I eat at Mickey D's
When I get there she says they're going to McDonald's
Which I had already done
So I find out the reason they want to eat in Platteville
Is because my nephew is wanted by the law in Iowa
Meanwhile his son wants some real turkey at his mom's in Cassville
His don't want to work dad can't drive him because of his three DWIs
So I go from that mess and visit my Dad at the nursing home
While he sleeps, I watch TV and play Press Your Luck on my Nintendo DS
I drive home and play games and watch The Office Christmas reruns
Have some more Thanksgiving food and call it a day
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving!

Planes Trains and Automobiles Retold

In this movie Neal Page meets Del Griffith on his way back to Chicago
Del is a big help getting him his own room at a fancy hotel with good towels
He gets a nice free meal from Del the following morning
Then they get a ride in a nice warm truck to a nice train
The train has a mishap, but are shuttled to an even nicer bus
After Neal sings a song everybody loves, they get a nice car from a nice lady
They drive the car without any problems and share another motel room
There they share stories of their wives who are both alive and well
Neal invites Del back to his house where they have a Thanksgiving meal
Later Del's wife shows up and loves the Neal Page's family
Del Griffith's family soon move next door and look forward to many more
Thanksgivings with his new best friend
The End
