Holiday Poem 2012

Holiday Poem 2012
By: Jay Hershorn

Let’s all reflect upon the year which quickly passed us by,
The holidays have finished now, and New Year’s Eve is nigh.
The weather that we’re facing now is frigid, yes it’s true,
So please warm up, enjoy this poem, passed on from me to you.
In just a week we’re back again with family and our friends,
To celebrate the coming year that’s just around the bend.
And when the ball is sliding down, you count down till it drops,
They say that time’s a riverbed, it never really stops.
Reflect upon the story of your life from this past year,
And you will find that there are things we all should hold quite dear.
For instance we should all be glad to be in such good health,
Or maybe there are people who’ve acquired newfound wealth.
I think the best is happiness, which everybody needs,
To have a smile on your face, it makes you feel so free.
A mix of ups and downs I think, is something we’ve all had,
But in the end we proudly say “it really ain’t so bad!”
So let’s make resolutions for the year that’s due to come,
It’s great to make a list of them, we all can think of some!
And on the night of New Year’s Eve with champagne in your glass,
The troubles that you may have had will surely come to pass.
As midnight chimes with cheers abound I’ll jubilantly say,
“This year will bring fortune, but I’ll take it day by day.”

I hope everyone had a great holiday and is looking forward to a new year full of endless possibilities. As the famous Scottish song states “For Auld Lang Syne”: as we look forward to our future, don’t forget to enjoy your memories of the past for old times’ sake. Happy New Year everyone!

Halloween Poem 2012

The night of halloween has come, it's filled with scares and screams,
The perfect time for ghosts and ghouls to haunt you in your dreams.
A rolling fog, the moon is full, the air has quite a chill,
And fending off a zombie hoard will prove to be a thrill.

The bats swoop down and chase you 'round, you fall onto the ground,
When up above, across the sky, you hear a shrieking sound.
A wicked witch is flying by and casting evil spells,
To make a creepy atmosphere in town where people dwell.

So please be sure to watch out if you stay at home tonight,
For you may be the victim of a terrifying fright.
The monsters hunt in packs and they are roaming all the streets,
And when they come up to your door they yell out TRICK-OR-TREAT!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!

Dating Is a Business Meeting

By: Jay Hershorn

You've found a person that you like, you want to take them out,
But when it comes to dating, what the hell's it all about?
You think that it's all love and hearts with hugs and kisses too,
But then you realize that's all wrong, 'cause dating's hard to do.
So listen close I'll tell you why this dating game's a joke,
There's many things that make it tough for all us decent folk.
The problem with the dating scene is something quite unreal,
For people like to treat a date just like a business deal.
For men, it seems that dates are like a swift kick to the groin,
Because it feels like they must spend a lot of hard earned coin.
They have to take the woman out to dinner and a movie,
Men USED to take them out to dance, now wasn't that more groovy?
Afterward they take them out for drinks and some dessert,
It sometimes feels that this is too much money to exert.
But if you don't have credit cards or even liquid cash,
Some women throw their drinks on you which makes a messy splash.
That's not to say that women are the only culprits here,
'cause men will also act like pigs, WITHOUT a sip of beer.
I've seen some men give up a girl and really start to gripe,
And that's because she didn't have the perfect body type.
It's true that we don't always know what we are looking for,
But men are more concerned about a chance for them to score.
It's pretty much our looks now that determine who we are,
So if a man is not Brad Pitt he won't get very far.
A simple date is now complex, I think it's gone askew,
It's almost like you're meeting someone for an interview.
When on the date with he or she, and it is your first time,
You must present your "resume", which I'll sum up in this rhyme.
There's looks, money, social status, and body types as well,
But if these factors are not met, the date won't be so swell.
So try and try again you might, to make the love boat sail,
But if your "resume" still sucks, the date will sadly fail.
So if the risk of failing hard is really set quite high,
Then why the bloody hell do men and women even try?
I feel that dating is not fair in society today,
Couples are so quick to split ; they just refuse to stay.
But through the crap we must tread through, there is a little light,
For you could fall in love real quick with someone overnight.
So what I've learned from all of this is not to get upset,
I know there's a girl out there for me, just haven't met her yet.

Perpetual Gloom

They say that time will heal wounds,
but who knows if that's true,
I've waited time and time again
but still I'm feeling blue.
This gloom remains above my head
with rainstorms pouring down,
And I can't think of anything
to help me fix my frown.
I haven't asked my friends for help,
I haven't asked a soul,
'Cause I don't want to bother them
or drag them in this hole.
It's hard to tell if I exist
or if my life is real,
The only way to know for sure
is with this sharp cold steel.
I know that this is not the way,
but oh well I don't care,
Just one more slice is all I need
then no more cuts I swear...

Summer Fun

There's rain outside but I don't care,
I'll go outside to get fresh air.
With Gatorade inside my bottle,
I'll drink it down and go full throttle!
There's lots to do on Saturday,
No boring work, it's time to play!
We'll play lots of sports, let's go kick a ball,
Let's play through the summer, 'til the season turns fall.
On hot summer days I go for a swim,
From daybreak of morning 'til sunlight goes dim.
I love to drink beer, that's truly no doubt,
Just bring me the keg and I'll drink from the spout!
It's great to lay down in the nice cooling shade,
A feeling like this I just could not trade!
And even my dog is having his day,
Him and a poodle had a romp in the hay ;)
I hope all of you are enjoying your summer,
But if you are not then boy that's a bummer!

Laser Eye Surgery

We’ve come a long way since the “good old days”,
With advancements in science in various ways.
There’s one in plain sight for you and for me,
I’m talking about laser eye surgery.
The most common method is the one they call LASIK,
But the way it’s performed makes it seem like it’s basic.
I’ll tell you right now of some great benefits,
I would tell you them all, but the time won’t permit.
So please quiet down and listen to me,
I’ll list out the pros and the cons three by three.
You’ll no longer need a prescription for eyes,
You’ll only wear glasses when you need a disguise.
It takes almost no time for you to recover
Which leaves ample time to help out your mother!
The third one I speak of would be great for the masses,
For there’d be a lot less lost/broken glasses!
“So what are the cons” you might ask of me,
Well let’s take a look and maybe we’ll see.
You might feel discomfort for a couple of days,
Or a tad sight distortion by a bit of a haze.
Should you choose to accept this and make your decision,
Your eyes can get dry, thus affecting your vision!
And last but not least I will talk of expense,
It costs lots of money, with no recompense.
After weighing the pros and the cons you have seen,
Will you be quite averse, or shell out the green?
I wonder what all of your choices will be,
As to whether you choose laser eye surgery.
