Not Everyone Can Be King

You say you'll never find fortune never have fame
And you're getting too old for world acclaim
If money fell from the sky but you know that's a lie
What all tomorrows bring not everyone can be king

As you are dreaming of the ocean waves
There are peasants and there are slaves
The rich know the living
The poor only know to wait for their graves

Farewell fair maiden you're out of view by now
Some bells are silent why don't they ring
There must be a reason
Not everyone can be king

In a different direction his journey is far
Along the way he find rest by a stream
As the ripples whisper they lull him to dream
And he awakes to the reflection not everyone can be king

No One Thinks Like Me

I've had time to think it over and it's no use you see
Cause I know yes I know
No one thinks like me

Briefly I knew you long time we've been apart
Who else would have written when all was hopelessly
Then again no one thinks like me

If ever we meet again I'll tip my hat to say hello
Perhaps you may think I'm a man of mystery
But you don't understand no one thinks like me

Words on a page can be so vain
Line after line and there's nothing to gain
Something about love from a memory no one thinks like me

No One

No one to talk too but a lot on my mind
And if you are reading this
You may find it a waste of time

For I'm known as no one and there's a reason why
But no one ever wants to tell me
No they just pass me by

Average must be a secret word that no one wants to say
I have the same dreams as you
But I always have an average day

Fools were made for yesterday tomorrow was made for the wise
I'm too average to be in the way
No one to talk too and that came as no surprise

Devoted Shadow Writer

Devoted shadow writer never said who he was
It's a mystery if the lady ever knew ever had a clue
How much he wrote about love

Devoted shadow writer always behind the scene
How could anyone tell if he was writing something real
What did he feel or was he writing about a dream

On a fast horse around midnight he went to steal her away
Beams od moonlight fell through the trees and the drama plays
Devoted shadow writer her castle is surrounded by a maze

Was it all a work of fiction a novel without an end
Who was the devoted shadow writer
Will he ever write again

Standing At The Praying Window

Standing at the praying window
Looking up at the blue sky
Oh heaven can you help me
Standing at the praying window as I cry

I only ask for a love that's true
I hope I'm not acting selfishly
Sometimes when we pray it may take two
So heaven could you agree with me

Soon clouds will be on the way
The rain is surely at hand
Do you see the church where I pray
Standing at the praying window again

A Hundred Love Poems Or More

Why was that girl always on my mind did I look like a fool oh my
For her I wrote a hundred love poems or more
It's a little late to apologize but I'm going to try
It's very hard to find the words I'm looking for

At last it has come to my attention and now I'm aware
Several years later I see
It was a one sided love affair
And how embarrassed she could be

I'll try to bring this to a close this time for sure
And if I could send a telegram to her door
It would read forgive me I have finally found a cure
So sorry it only took a hundred love poems or more

The Girl In Question

Oh dear lady where might you be
The girl in question
Is the answer I need

Does she exist or just in my head
Every time I write about her the ink keeps turning red
The girl in question knows nothing I have said

Looking at letters on typewriter keys
There's a margin of hope but only on paper for me
The girl in question is still a mystery

I don't know her name or where she's from
I don't know if her eyes are blue or gray
A few more words to write and I'll call it a day

Oh dear lady I wish you knew
And if you are the girl in question
Could you give someone like me a clue

The Garden Of Eden

Before man there was the sun and the moon
And even the stars appeared soon
Then man came along believin'
He would always be the ruler over the Garden of Eden

One day he met his wife and then for some reason
They knew their lives would be cut asunder
And the day they left the Garden of Eden
Was the first time they'd heard it thunder

They climbed to a mountain top
Overlooking the Garden of Eden
Little knowing they were standing on a jagged rock
That one day might be used by a son to cause his brother to bleedin'

I'm not trying to change anything
It's just that my imagination is in full swing
And from high on a mountain top
Overlooking the Garden of Eden

The Sun The Wind And Me

There's nothing to write but write anyway
There's nothing to say but say anyway
There's nothing to do but do you know
The sun and the warm breeze know what to do
The sun arrived early this morning
The wind came by a little latter
I listen for awhile to their conversation
They seem to have known each other a long time
They didn't mind me being there
And now the sound of tires on a two lane highway
Someone out for a scenic drive
I'm taking slow sips from a glass of tea
Peering out from the shade of an umbrella
The sky seems to be a darker blue that way
Now that I've introduced you to my day
There are no actors here and what I stumble upon
Is that any other time this would be a boring day
But now I see there is something to write
There is something to say to do
A bird flew by and missed it's target
And so I'm finding this to be a perfect day
For the sun the wind and me

Sixty Blues

I'm real gone like the sixty blues
Change came along but I said refuse
Cause I dig the sixties still walking in my shoes

It's a beat like hey man here's the jive
You know everybody knows it's hip to be alive
Living life is a work of art
Paint by day and be cool lovers after dark

There's a gig on up the street
And strangers don't find it strange to tap their feet
If a girl calls my name
She's gotta know the sixty blues is my game

If you forgot it I brought it back
While your spinning your tires I'm digging my flat
People read the paper then they blow their fuse
But I'm never uptight with the sixty blues

Maybe I could write a book
And then once I got everybody hooked
Cats would be saying hey man this ain't no jive
You know everybody knows it's hip to be alive

Turn On A Dime

Turn on a dime and look my way
Put on the brakes my baby
If you believe that music is in the air
Give love a chance it's only fair

Add your change to the jukebox
And play your favorite goldilocks song
Take my hand for this dance
As we move through the twilight zone

Turn on a dime and waltz with me
Sha la la and where are we
Wherever this is in eternity
Put on the brakes my baby

I'm not wanting to go
But it was only a dream
A clinging sound at the laundry mat
Turn on a dime if you know what I mean

No One's Gonna Mention The Time

It doesn't take money to write
It doesn't take success to rhyme
But it takes a good heart to be polite
And no one's gonna mention the time

It doesn't take money to look at a blue sky
It doesn't take advice to walk by a clear stream
But it takes wonder to be with someone where the moonlight shines
And no one's gonna mention the time

Here I go again with off the wall poetry
Maybe just a few words could bring someone company
So what if you go searching when there's nothing to find
And no one's gonna mention the time
