Poetry Town

Driving down poet avenue
I'm looking for rhyme street
It always feels like deja vu
Except this time the rain is turning to sleet

I slip and slide around every turn
I'm stuck in poetry town
In my rearview mirror there is concern
For it looks like I'm heartache bound

Mr winter I'll never find her
The nights are getting cold I'll never see her again
And the tracks I've left in the snow
Reveal all the circles where I've been

How many time have I written it wrong
Now the traffic light on poet avenue is broken down
Where do I go as the night goes on
Looks like I'm stuck in poetry town

The Doctor

My mind keeps playing the role of a doctor
Another therapy session every day or two
There was a girl that's why my chart has lots of pages doctor
My mind keeps trying to fix my heart from missing you

The doctor says this is all very confidential
There's no one in the room but me
I keep asking to see his credentials
He say he's still going to the school of poetry

I can see this is getting me nowhere
But he's the only doctor I can find
My insurance has all this covered
But what if she uncovers this heart of mine

The doctor said this session is over
I don't know when the next appointment will be
His prescription was a four leaf clover
But it's going to take more than luck to find a cure for me

The North Carolina Pearl

In the land of North Carolina there's a beautiful girl
Long ago when she was in Kentucky
I didn't know I was looking at a North Carolina pearl

So I ask you North Carolina
Could you send her back my way
Maybe this time goodbye will be a little easier to say

For I know she couldn't leave you long
You'll always be her world but if I could write a song
It would be all about the North Carolina pearl

And if I could whistle Dixie and see that flag unfurl
This soldier has one last love letter
Addressed to the North Carolina pearl

Getting Old Is A Drug

Out of a haze out of a daze into the clear sunlight
Today feels real and the way I feel
I am feeling alright

I hear people all around my feet on the ground
Life is bringing it's buzz
And now I know getting old is a drug

Arrive back home and all alone
The clock on the wall doesn't warn you at all
When you can go from happy to sad

But it's not so bad from out of the past a feeling that last
I still remember love
But I was never told getting old is a drug

Something To Write

Not sure what I'm trying to say
Not skilled in the plan of poetry
Not skilled in the plan of life another day is before me
My heart longs for something to write

Should I write of love if I do I'll get to feeling blue
Should I write of life
Everyone knows how short that can be
Maybe just a line or two

How slowly a leaf can fall to the ground
But when the wind blows that leaf can dance around
And take a bow so polite not sure what I'm trying to say
Another day is before me my heart longs for something to write

Just a little more and I'll be satisfied
How can I miss what I don't know I'm missing
Once there was a string that someone tied
To a dream that kept on wishing

If I could take leaves and make a kite
Would you hold the string with all your might
I bought a painting for you and soon rain will be in sight
Another day before me my heart longs for something to write

The Conversation Of Teardrops

You've got to stop thinking about her
Was the conversation of teardrops in my eyes
It was years ago I met her years later today I can't forget her
But you know I've really got to try

When there are missing pieces to a puzzle
The picture will never be complete
And heartaches are not good for anyone
For who can live a life that's bittersweet

When leaves break from a tree the wind carries them away
I guess you can tell what time of year it must be
The conversation of teardrops years later today
I heard long ago but still they can't get through to me

So with pen in hand I have failed once again
I'll keep on trying to write her out of my mind
But the conversation of teardrops as they whisper
I hear them say that love will always be blind

You're A Stranger To Me

Hello lady I don't know you you're a stranger to me
You wear white gloves and a bright blue dress
I've seen you long ago maybe somewhere way out west

Perhaps Arizona the marvelous grand canyon possibly
I'm not certain I'm just wondering
So I beg your pardon lady you're a stranger to me

You carry a yellow rose in your hand
You take off your shoes when you walk in the sand
You never talk to me but here I am

I'll be leaving on the train at a quarter till three
What if all I've been describing is just a fantasy
Goodbye lady you're a stranger to me

It's Best I Tell Her Lies

It's best she doesn't love me
It's best she doesn't care
Cause I'll never be rich and famous
Not even debonair

It's best she doesn't talk to me
And look at me with her blue eyes
Cause if she did I'd keep falling in love with her
It's best I tell her lies

It's best she doesn't walk beside me
Cause I'm not tall dark and handsome you see
It's best she doesn't see my car it's very out of style
An Elcamino 1983

It's best she forgets me
I won't be coming round
There are reasons I have lots of alibies
I think you get the picture now it's best I tell her lies

A Different Time Of The Day

I came through your town at a different time of the day
It was getting late darkness was just a stones throw away
And God seemed so close to me his spirit was revealing

Through fading clouds a flickering star in the sky
I noticed your Wednesday evening service had began
As I slowly drove by

The door was open and a light was burning
I knew that soon humble people would begin to pray
I came through your town at a different time of the day

Cousins

I like my cousins they all like me
They're the best cousins that ever could be
They've all got medals for good behavior
And they are humble naturally

They're all good lookin' with hearts of gold
And talk of bravery there's none so bold
The friendliest people in this world
But of course I'm just talking about the girls

And now they love me even more after reading this
I know their day now will be so bliss
This is what good cousins should always do
Unto to others so I'll start with you

Just Part Of The Crowd

Hello friends and strangers
Been a long time since we met
Hello friends and strangers
How many memories did we forget

Now when we hear laughter
It doesn't sound near as loud
I use to be part of the family
Now I'm just part of the crowd

Oh it's nice to have a reunion
But handshakes don't seem quite as proud
Once I was part of the family
Now I'm just part of the crowd

Always In My Dreams

You're over there and I'm over here
I'll drop a line in between
If you can't reply just read this and sigh
I love you and you're always in my dreams

You're over there and I'm over here
I guess that will always be the scene
Be that as it may just a few things I've to say my dear
I love you and you're always in my dreams

You're over there and I'm over here
Maybe this idea isn't so keen
But with this letter in hand now you understand so clear
I love you and you're always in my dreams

You're over there and I'm over here
And I'm not really a king
A pauper am I and now on my cheek there's a trickle of a tear
But ere you go I love you so and you're always in my dreams
