The ground lies damp
Beneath the overcast sky of empathy
My eyes discover the relaxed view
Nature is quiet and blessed with serenity
Mustang 66 sound of tires grip the road
Destination is just to a little store
Where one can buy
Apples of red, green and gold
The sun's slowly pace is trying
To bring it's glow through the clouds
And gives me a peace I cannot explain
And nature is quiet and blessed with serenity
After the rain

I'm tired of lonely
So tired of lonely
Lord I hope it doesn't sound like I complain
But I'm tired of lonely
So tired of lonely
I need to hear words that fall upon my ears like a gentle rain
I need to see April flowers even when the summer is hot and dry
I need to feel the power of someone else's mind
And I would dare for time to fly
Do I say this as a dream or almost a prayer
As I write of these things if only someone could read it here
Instead of reading it there

Today she calls him the funny time warp man
He writes in the past and after many days the words come back again
The future was tomorrow then tomorrow became today to be always when
She will still act surprised
That he got stuck looking into her lovin' eyes
And still surprised to know the past isn't letting go
The date and time was never a plan
There's no agenda to meet again
Why should she he's the funny time warp man

Time is passing options are few
Boredom is due
To take over
Where did I fail
How can I prevail
Wish I had an angel leaning on my shoulder
Whether it's rain or shine
Does it matter if I'm up or I recline
Options are few boredom is due to take over
The scene out my window stays the same
The walls inside have the echo of a lonliness pain
I can only be where yesterday remains
There's no trail so I can find a lucky penny
Where's the meadow if I could find a four leaf clover
Options are few boredom is due to take over
The night will be here soon
And there will be the moon
Wish I had an angel leaning on my shoulder

Whereas wherefore what if, how do I start this letter
But I don't write anymore so what's the use of thinking
Life goes on outside my door and the years are blinking
Maybe I should simple enjoy the day
And throw this letter away
Like I've done a hundred times before
The sky is blue I feel the warmth of the sun
And for the night the moon was made so you could hold someone
In a special way
But I don't write anymore
Whereas wherefore what if
I had nothing to say

I don't understand why does she want to hurt me
And why hasn't this ended yet
All I can figure out
Is that she's playing hard to forget
A few memories still linger on
And sadly I'm reminded of regret
Now she keeps me from moving along
She's playing hard to forget
Behind the scenes what's happening
I'm in the dark and everyone can bet
Tomorrow she'll hurt me again
She's playing hard to forget

Everybody who knows
Have I met your approval
Who will you pick out for me
Does she meet your approval
It doesn't matter what I think what I feel
I must do what I'm told
They want to replace my heart with one of steel
So I guess this will be another year on hold
Everybody who knows it all
Why do you punish me so
Surely you must have some flaw
How many stones will you throw
And here's something to think about more
As your perfection greets me at the door
Do the stones meet your approval

He's been sailing on a ship called the good front
For so long he's lost track of time
No one else on board all alone is he with no destination in mind
He kept a log of all his heartaches
Tis a secret of a girl he once knew
But on the good front every day the skies are blue
Yes the captain is well
And every night on the starboard side
He searches without fail
All the stars up above
Would there be one to guide him to love
The winds are calm so he waits to sail
Whenever he sails the good front ashore
People cheer with such flare
The captain is known by everyone as charming and debonair

Reduce speed road work ahead next 5 miles
But the rain will keep pouring down
For a hundred or more
I've been this way many times for sure
But this time is different
Than all the times before
Giving up and letting go
As every song on the radio
Keeps telling me she won't be talking to me anymore
Through the lonely years
I've been driving alone with a broken heart
Now it's no use to anyone who wants one that torn apart
It doesn't matter now how many miles are left to go
Wish I could turn memories off like the radio
And now the rain is really starting to pour
Miles of heartache and one last goodbye is all I was really looking for
Reduce speed road work ahead next 5 miles
But still I travel alone a hundred or more

It would have been a good idea
Had he thought about it in time
But he's always just a little too late
So I guess he will just stop trying
He could have placed a goodbye note
With some Kentucky flowers she could keep
But they would die in a few days time
And that's when he would weep
And get over her
Should have said farewell with Kentucky flowers
His mood swings from word to word like a clinging vine
And someday that vine is bound to break
But he's already been falling a very long time
So how does he apologize after having said so much
Maybe he could if for awhile she could touch
Kentucky flowers

Feelings might be too strong to meet at this time
Oh what can I do I shouldn't write
Anymore hanging on lines
The power of it all will surely come down
Like a pouring rain and when it clears to blue skies above
What will be found is our inevitable love
Feel the warmth of the day as spring has it's way
This is a scene of how close we are even when we're apart
So if we should meet could we handle the spark
Like dynamite on shaky ground
When the power of it all comes down
And we listen to our hearts pound
With inevitable love

A stranger had a violin and when he played
Righteous and sweet was the sound
Heard all over town
And all the good people agreed
They wanted to hear more every day
The stranger and the violin had lots of music to play
And then it was during early spring
When robins begin to sing
Suddenly a new dawn and it seemed the day waved a magic wand
When a pretty lady came into town
And all the good people were gathered round
And when she heard the violin play she couldn't help but sway
As little kids were passing by she took one by the hand
And as they danced around she felt so grand
Righteous and sweet was the sound heard all over town
And all the good people agreed
They wanted to here more every day
The stranger and the violin had lots of music to play
