A New Poet

They come in not sure of their welcome
post their words with trepidation
scared maybe of being ignored or mocked
not sure even if they can write at all.

You all know this feeling
once too you were new
if lucky someone held out a hand
gathered you under their wing.

Gave you lots of encouragement
by reading and commenting kindly
Happily you replied and learnt
and you too now welcome the new poets.

Carrying on the tradition
for to greet and comment
brings hope to faint hearted
so as you post remember this.

You were once new and unsure
so hold out your hand in friendship
comment on other's poems
and they in turn will respond.

About this poem:
I have noticed that many poets get no comments at all.
in most sites there are dedicated greeters that welcome new poets
Please remember that you were once new and encourage others.
As for the new poet you too should comment on others
By doing so you will make new friends and be encouraged
And yes even inspired by their works so breathe a little life
into this site all it needs is some care and respect for others.

Sylvan Landscape---Monorhyme

The sylvan landscape stretched for miles
reached across golden fields by stiles.
Leaves carpeted the ground like tiles
whilst branches lay in gathered woodpiles.

Ancient venerable trees lined the aisles
that wandered willy nilly like juveniles.
Along the rivers banks were basking reptiles
with mouths that upturned in happy smiles.

In the midst of the rushing water were isles
that rose up high like big projectiles.
And trees marched up the hills in files
giving shelter to the fox and his wiles.

The peace of the woodlands beguiles
within its tranquillity are no exiles.

Spring

Once again spring is on her way
gone are the icy fingers of winter.
Birds are busy building their nests
buds on the trees ready to bloom.

Long days beckon the sleepy sun
to spread her warmth to the lands.
Eagerly plants spring back to life
bees and butterflies flit around.

At last there is colour once again
gone the drab grey of winter.
My heart lightens with such joy
singing along with earth's beat.

Everywhere I walk on these hills
I see signs of life springing up anew
The moors full of lambs bleating
and skipping with heartfelt delight.

Hither and Tither

Blown around like a leaf I stumble
back and forth with no real rest.
Lost within the surrounding landscape
seeking I know not what as of yet.

Looking back on a life often misspent
that had no real sense of purpose,
Just drifting from day to day, lost
yet on a track to who knows where?

Until it suddenly clicks and I realise
that the secret was always there.
All I needed to do was open my mind
and follow where my heart led me.

The Shadow of Love

I am the shadow that passes through your mind
as you remember times long gone now
the wind in your hair as you stroll
a soft touch as a leave brushes your cheek

A certain scent I always wear
tells you I was near to you
yet when you turn around
you find you are alone

You can sense me watching over you
but when you reach out all you catch
is a shadow that slips away
leaving just memories behind

You can hear my voice in the breeze
carried down from the mountain top
feel me when you bath in crystal streams
and in the beams radiating from the sun

I am everywhere yet also I am nowhere
just the shadow that protects you
I am the spirit that dwells within you
the shadow of our love for each other

Happy Days monorhyme

Once more we see the signs of the restart
as nature wakens plants with her magic art.
We laugh as at long last winter does depart
leaving us full of joy and light of heart.

Leafy branches conceal from sight the hart
by the still pond bees and dragonflies dart.
The lovers dreamily stare then drift apart
startled as one of the cows gives off a fart.

The posy opens slyly showing off its blackheart
only to be smothered by the nettle upstart.
The cook is busy making a large fruit tart
while in the parlour the cows gives us a quart.

Spring so full of promise show us your heart
as you bring vibrant life and a brand new start.

Friendship

When I was in a dark place
lost in depths of sorrow
a bright light glinted at me
gleaming tugging me forward

as slowly my feet dragged me
towards it, it grew and grew
until I reached it at last
and was bathed, washed clean

that light led and guided me
from bitter black despair
surrounding my soul with love
the love of true friends

the light was all of you
reaching out to me
lightening my way
with words of hope

telling me with kindness
never fear we are here
to comfort you and let
me know I am not alone

Parrots (villanelle)

Full of colour and so very gay
my voice it can be very shrill
keep me happy so I won't stray

See my feathers all in array
I sit and watch upon the sill
Full of colour and so very gay

Keep that beak of mine at bay
I can use it with such great skill
keep me happy so I won't stray

Now watch my fancy foot play
as I sit here and preen a quill
Full of colour and so very gay

so just sit and watch my byplay
its fun and will give you a thrill
keep me happy so I won't stray

thus my joy for you I will relay
fill my tray you know the drill
full of colour and so very gay
keep me happy so I won't stray

The Groom to his Future Bride

You are the goddess of my heart
there is no star brighter than you.
When the moon beams down in her glory
her light reminds me of you swirling
as your laughter spills out. The sun
to me a pale reflection compared to you.

Allow me my darling to take your hand
in wedlock. Let me worship you for the
rest of my days, hold and keep you safe.
Mysterious lady who reminds me of the sea
with her gentle ways that explode into
storms come ride the waves with me.

I pledge to you my all for without you
there is no sun, no moon or stars.
Just a world of dim shadows showing little
more than shapes. Place your hand in mine
and together we will conquer all in our
paths, raise our children and live life.

Dance Of Love ----villanelle

They swayed together in the dance of love
strangers that were captured by a hot glance
watched with joyfulness by a white dove

Hand in hand they strolled around the cove
promised that they would return to this place
they swayed together in the dance of love

walking through the glen filled with foxglove
then tenderly he led her to his place
watched with joyfulness by a white dove

They stood talking, air full of scent of clove
the room was lit by candles and fireplace
they swayed together in the dance of love

Time passed soon they moved to the staircase
he helped her climb up to the bed space
watched with joyfulness by a white dove

They were married in a white olive grove
spending their honeymoon at his birthplace
they swayed together in the dance of love
watched with joyfulness by a white dove

Blossoms and Bubbles-----A Couplet

Blossoms And Bubbles

As I entered the garden the scents enticed
rampant rose blossom the arches fenced.

Cascading aromatic blossoms greeting me
amidst the climbers were the sweet pea.

In the centre stood the patio so glamorous
sparkling bubbles of champagne so amorous.

Tickling the throat buds saturated with scent
from the tumbling blossoms as they descent.

Blood stream and breath full of roiling bubbles
and past swish the gentry parading in couples.

Raise your glasses in a toast as friends are wed
laughing, knowing they will all too soon be in bed.

Ah what a perfect day in this romantic garden
bubbles and blossoms tumbling as skies darken

Blossoms and bubbles never somniferous
mixed together they are becoming toxiferous.

Unfurling......... Couplet

Slowly, infinitely slowly they unfurled
the beauty hidden within each one revealed.

Seeking the sun's heat and the barmy wind
they stretch every which way light to find.

Now forgive me if a plant you think we are
for there is no way could we go bare.

Two souls we be, each one of us searching
unfurling in delight when ends the looking.

For now living in hopeful expectation
will our unfurling lead to fruitation?

That only time will tell, but in the meanwhile
every day makes us stronger each travelled mile.
