HAUNTING SEARCH

I know … It’s late
The dew laden plains reaching up
Caressing the threads of my velvet red cape
I course through bewitching woods

Night after night I flit through moonlit paths
Surveilled by the all seeing, ever knowing owl
Distant howling of the prairie wolf
My tragic past finds no rest, enmity on the prowl

Soul searching, I endlessly roam the castle hallways
Why does my weary spirit find no rest
Why dost it search and toil in vain
We are now worlds apart, both physically and spiritually … in pain

Haunting forgotten rhythmic heart beats
Remind me of distant days gone by
In frenzy I search, In longing I cry out
But no sound emanates from what’s already dead

I know … it’s late
I cannot find my true love
He’s gone, I’m afraid
The haunting sounds of midnight

The Brook that babbles

THE BROOK THAT BABBLES

Slivers of sunlight flit through the trees
Orchestral manoeuvres, shadows of leaves waltz in the light
Willows, ferns and lilies majestically bow and pay homage
All stand in awe of the Creator of the brook that babbles

Frolicking, giggling, winding, crystal clear waters run gleefully like children
Gliding over smooth boulders and stone, shaped through patience and time
Dispersing currents divide, swirling in crevices, playing hide and seek
Cold, fresh water spills over my naked feet and I cannot help but smile

Protective branches, a mother’s embrace, overshadow this giver of life
Yet she outruns these rooted giants, congregating later in sun reflected pools
Rocks of ages stand sentry both along and inside this brook that babbles
Multi coloured silhouettes uniquely fingerprinted, textured and sized

And our Creator said … “It is good” and mankind smiled heavenward
Nothing man-made can ever compare to God’s perfect beauty in nature
I stand humming in this rivulet, birds flutter and sing in the trees
A gracefully spun spider’s web glistens with dew drops
And I am grateful for this remarkable brook that babbles

About this poem:
This brook and its natural surroundings are a welcome respite most city folk desperately seek these stressful days. We often forget that it is the simple things in life that afford us the greatest rest and pleasure.

Just Because

Thunder and Lightning … Bang Bang
Your words sharper than a two-edged sword
Slice with precision and Ricochet around the sunlit room
Piercing my beating heart with each word

Whiplashing all sense of reasoning out of my brain
Trust and respect retrace their steps, slink away
Exploding memories crystallise into a million unimaginable colours
I turn to run and yet too stunned … I stay

Once unbridled joy now just an after thought
Flesh, blood, sweat and tears hurtle into darkest space
My mind’s eye stares … but cannot see …
My emotions cascading … but I cannot scream

You have decimated my very being …
And all because … you could

From Parent to Child

FROM PARENT TO CHILD

I gave you life, but I cannot live it for you
I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn
I can give you directions, but I cannot always be there to lead you
I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it
I can take you to church, but I cannot make you believe
I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot always decide for you

I can buy you beautiful clothes, but I cannot make you lovely inside
I can offer you advice, but I cannot accept it for you
I can give you love, but cannot make you lovable
I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish
I can teach you respect, but I can't force you to show honor
I can advise you about friends, but I cannot choose them for you

I can teach you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure
I can tell you the facts of life, but I can't build your reputation
I can tell you about drink, but I can't say NO for you
I can warn you about drugs, but I can't prevent you from using them
I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can't achieve them for you
I can teach you kindness, but I can't force you to be gracious

I can warn you about sins, but I can't make your morals
I can love you as a child, but I can't place you in God's family
I can pray for you, but I cannot make you walk with God
I can teach you about Jesus, but cannot make Jesus your Lord
I can tell you how to live, but cannot give you eternal life

Road to Nowhere

Road to Nowhere

I scan your face, your soul reflected in piercing eyes
I place my hand on your heaving chest to feel your heart’s musical beat,
Your Life’s colourful drummed rhythm
Dancing on the soles of your earthbound feet

But the glimpse of the real you is quickly masked
Insecurities leave you distrustful and feeling abandoned
Ever questioning whether the person before you is sincere
Never accepting that betrayal is random

No one can heal that broken heart
Nor replace what you once lost
This is a futile exercise of a road going nowhere
Until you forgive and build a highway of trust

And that takes time ....

About this poem:
It appears that very few really take the time to get to know & understand the person they are chatting to on these sites. Everyone wants a quick fix. How long can you wear that heavy mask before the real you is revealed? Without patience ... this is one long and lonely road to nowhere ... fast.
