The Story of Life

To exist, a living thing must be born
Whether animal, plant or some other
This marks the initial stage it builds on
And heralds its life that follows after

After its birth, there is the growth process
Which requires adequate nutrition
In this vital stage, there must be success
In order to attain maturation

A living thing in full maturity
Displays its species characteristics
These serve to define its identity
In testimony of its uniqueness

Living things are programmed internally
To keep their species continuation
To make this action a reality
They engage in acts of reproduction

Living things cannot live eternally
The process of decay cannot be stopped
Bodies that once were quite firm and healthy
With time they become shriveled and dried up

The action of decay is precursor
That signals the final stage which is death
For living organisms wherever
This occurs when they take their final breath

The Magnificent Air

Invisible air links all living things
Whether animals, plants or some other
Throughout Nature, this message rings
Living things share the air with each other

Food and water that animals take in
And oxygen from the air they inhale
Provide energy after processing
And carbon dioxide which they exhale

From carbon dioxide, plants take carbon
And incorporate it in their structure
This is through photosynthesis action
Which releases oxygen thereafter

These actions are repeated endlessly
Asserting the link between living things
It's a glorious marvellous unity
And the magnificent song Nature sings

About this poem:
The air we breathe is probably one of the most taken for granted things. It unites all living things. It levels the playing field. Some persons may consider human life to be superior to plant life. Yet, plants play a vital role in sustaining human life by replenishing the oxygen content of the air. They assimilate, into their structure, the carbon from the carbon dioxide human beings exhale and release the oxygen through photosynthesis, thereby replenishing the air's oxygen, which is vital for human existence

(iambic pentameter).

Earth, Sea and Sky

Whether you believe in evolution
Or perhaps you believe in creation
All living things that dwell on Mother Earth
Are obligated to her for their birth

And what about the magnificent Sea
Where all the life forms there exist freely
Through the clouds, Sea supplies Earth with water
Which living things need to grow and prosper

Sky houses the clouds which provide the rain
That falls on the Earth again and again
The setting sun lights the sky brilliantly
Creating a scene of wondrous beauty

Earth, Sea and Sky exist in harmony
Comprising a glorious Trinity

Connection to Nature

I am connected to Nature
And Nature is connected to me
From the tiniest insect
To the largest tree
From creatures in the deepest ocean
To those on top the highest mountain
From the tiniest ant
To the largest elephant
The tree takes in what I exhale
And returns to me what I inhale
I consume as food, plant life from the earth
After I die, on my remains they will feed
I am connected to Nature
And Nature is connected to me

Malala

In Swat valley in Northern Pakistan
Malala, a young female teenager
Stood against the might of the Taliban
And earned the respect of those who knew her

She opposed their girls' education ban
And spread the issue all over the world
This enraged the terrorist Taliban
Who were determined to silence this girl

They sent an assassin to murder her
And he shot a bullet right through her head
But she proved to be a tough survivor
And became even more vocal instead

For her courage and heroic action
She earned the award of a Nobel prize
This defiant female from Pakistan
Became an idol in everyone's eyes

Heart of the Sea

The heart of the sea is a mother's heart
She is the great ancestral mother of all life on the planet
Deep within the dark mysterious waters of her womb
She conceived and gave birth to the first life form
which evolved into more complex organisms
that live on the land and in the air

She is an essential part of the planet's ecosystem
feeding the clouds which bring rain and snow
that sustain life on the earth
Through tiny ocean plants and photosynthesis
she removes carbon dioxide from the air
and converts it to more than one half of the oxygen
in the earth's atmosphere

She is the great food provider to the planet
having her own internal food chain
with tiny phytoplankton at the lower end
and enormous sharks and whales at the upper end
She feeds creatures from the land and air
that venture to fish in her waters

She is a thing of beauty even in her enraged fury
with massive waves towering over a hundred feet
and the seething white foam of her waters
This has been her action
even before the advent of man on the planet
Man must respect her behaviour
or suffer death and destruction if he does not

She is a thing of beauty in her calm stillness under the setting sun
which lights up the evening sky in its glorious splendour
and paints a glistening beam of light on the water's surface
in line with the sun and surrounds it
with brilliant colours of the rainbow

ALONENESS

Aloneness is different from loneliness
It is an occasion for personal growth
It gives an insight into humanness
And helps us realize our self worth

Being with others continually
Denies us from ever having a chance
To look at ourselves objectively
To build up our own self reliance

Self reliance is the key to coping
With acute periods of adversity
It provides us with an inner strengthening
To overcome and claim the victory

Self reliance is extremely vital
To avoid the feeling of loneliness
Which can happen when there is denial
Of other's support and togetherness

If you feel contentment in aloneness
It can help you to avoid a pitfall
It provides an inner based happiness
Which is the greatest happiness of all

Poems from my Youth: (4) - My Love For You

My love for you
is like cool slow rain
from an April sky
with gentle droplets
whispering of love
as they kiss your face

My love for you
is like gentle sea breezes
on a hot summer's noon
bringing healing's touch
from some far away land
to soothe the weary soul

My love for you
is like the dawning sun
chasing away the darkness
with golden sunbeams
that radiate with hope
of a better day

My love for you
is like all these things and more
for even if the rain ceases to fall
and the breeze forgets to blow
and the sun shines no more
my love for you will always be there
