The Rose of Life

We hold
onto things
Feelings
Of love lost,
Feelings
of betrayal,
Like treasures,
Treasures
We have earned,
Treasures
Hidden in a box,
And we
Fool ourselves,
Into
Believing these
Are the
Things that
Make us
Who we are.

But who
Is that,
This person
We are
Perceptions
Of a being
Who has
Travelled
Down a
One-way road,
Travelled,
Every day is
A cross-roads
A crossroads,
A many branched
Highway that
Is rose or thorn,
But never more
Than a rose
And the thorn
Is our perspective
An aphid crawling
On the rose of life,
An aphids horizon
So limited in scope,
We crawl through
Braken to get
To the flower.

Old and New

Life flowing from
The mountains of birth
Down to the ocean
Where old age and sickness
Take us down deep.

What was in our youth
New and bright and callow,
Fades over time,
Wrinkled, dry, sallow.
Aging like wine,
With love our bouquet,
Or filled with resentment
To vinegar, ourselves we betray.

We never asked
To be here
But old and new,
Naught should we fear
For the river will flow,
By the pull of desire,
We are not flesh,
But matter on fire.

Old and new,
Not a state of regrets
Everything changes,
And we stack up our debts
The double entries on
Our soul's karmic balance,
At death will be summed,
And Love will be the quotient
By which we are judged.

Nonlocal Flavor

Wherever you go,
There you are.
A wholeness,
A universe,
A flavorful
Blend of joy
And sadness,
A stew of
Hopes and dreams,
And disappointments.

This blend
of emptiness,
That you think
of as yourself;
A bouquet of illusion,
Bittersweet wine
Displaced from the vine
A thought
Of home is not
To the vinyard,
But to the boneyard,
We possess not,
Nor are we possessed.

You cannot own
A dream, upon
Awakening there
Is sadness, for
We cling to our
Delusions of home,
Of family and friends.
Wealth and power,
Shall fade on
The morning rays
Of sunshine,
Gossamer lies that
We whisper like
Pillow talk to
Our gullible souls.

Wherever you go,
There you are.
A wholeness,
A universe,
A flavorful
Blend of joy
And sadness,
A stew of
Hopes and dreams,
And disappointments.
A cuisine for the
Ages, as sages argue
How true is truth,
When it shines its
Enlightenment on itself?

Quarks of Desire

The spin of an atom, or deeper still,
The quarks of desire, a spiritual thrill.
Animus and anima, the magic of life,
Here and now are sown the seeds of strife.
Belief and believer, congenital twins,
Where one ends, the other begins.
What magic Heisenberg formula of fate,
Makes this program impossible to relate?
No chicken, no egg, no loss, no gain,
The life of the living is to feel pain.
But wait, there's more, there's always a tail
To a tale, that has no beginning, no ending, alas,
As do all things, this too shall pass.
Even as crude as the mention of fuel,
At our own peril we ignore the golden rule.
As done, shall be done, and thoughts,
Secret and private, shall fade with time
This, life, no poem, no reason, no rhyme.

The Fall Of the Sons of Belial

Engineers of our despair
The common man,
They don't care
Joe the Plumber
Couldn't be dumber
Than to listen
To useless media chatter,
While rich bankers
Just get fatter.
Rich, they are,
And avaricious
Cannibals who think
Pain is delicious.
Self-serving and
Amoral pricks,
I can take
All your licks.
Fat and decadent
You have become,
I hear the boom of
The barbaric drum
What doesn't kill
Me makes me stronger.
You can kill me,
But you cant
Win any longer.
I will outlast you,
Night follows day
The Fall of Empire
Is on it's way.

Moonstone and Malachite

Moonstone and Malachite,
Shining, blue and green
In the moonlight -

Semi-precious,
Gifts from the earth
Eggs of Gaea, waiting
For their birth
Eggs of Gaea, hatching
Eons, timeless worth.

Moonstone and Malachite,
Shining, blue and green
In the moonlight -

Blue and green,
Seas of stone,
Blue and green
Eggs of Gaea
Green and blue
Eggs of stone,
Blue and green
All alone.

Moonstone and Malachite,
Shining, blue and green
In the moonlight -
Shining in the moonlight
Hatching mysteries,
Inscrutable histories,
And beautiful fancies

Moonstone and Malachite,
Shining, blue and green
In the moonlight -
In the moonlight minds of men.
Moonstone and Malachite,
Shining, blue and green
In the moonlight -
In the moonlight world of
Might have been.

Yuletide Carols

Harvest done,
And frost is here
The snow is falling,
Falling heavy,
White comfort
Windy, cold,
Wood in a barrow,
Fire burning,
Winter carol,
Blizzard blowing,
Blowing hard
Winter wailing,
Music in the eves,
Yuletide carols,
Mistletoe and wreathes,
Proserpine is in decline,
Hades is her home,
Leaving snow and
Sol Invictus,
Seasons stirring
In a wintry bowl,
Yuletide carols
Whispers of antiquity
Birthing spring,
The dove on wing
Songs of hope in
An icy clime,
Seasons turning,
Turning on a dime,
Time is fleeting,
Fleeing, seeking,
Eternity of mind.

Crowded Room

Here I am
in a crowded room.
You're not here
So I am alone.

Pandemonium
Is not intimacy
Nor are superficial
Conversations
Leading nowhere.
Holiday banality
Shivers of my dread
Bold strangers staring
What faith, when all
Are sleeping, dead?

Here I am
in a crowded room.
You're not here
So I am alone.

There are many
Who are drawn to
My quiet corner of
Observation, my
Peering between
Crevices,
looking for
The cracks
in the masks,
The skull underneath,
The dead thing...

Here I am
in a crowded room.
You're not here
So I am alone.

This dance of
Undead ghosts
Long-dead, though
They don't even
Know it, stuffed
And yet hollow,
Pantomimes of
Living creatures
Sucked dry by an
Evil homunculus.

Here I am
in a crowded room.
You're not here
So I am alone.

The last thing
Truly alive
In a storm of
soul-sucking
Self-interest
and greed,
What more to
life is there
Beyond what it
is you really need?

Here I am
in a crowded room.
You're not here
So I am alone.

Spirits of the Pharaohs

Trumps and turnips
Turned earth turning the meek
Have you found the happiness you seek?
Did you see the chaos wrought?
Great distance or a narrows,
Life and love, spirits of the pharaohs,
Lover’s lane, or faraway plain,
The irony, its all a game,
Choices are made
And teams are chosen
And fates are woven,
And turns are played.

Trumps and turnips
Turned earth turning the meek
Have you found the happiness you seek?
Did you see the chaos wrought?
There’s still hell to be caught
Fate is waiting, OCD b*tch,
Weaving each and every tiny stitch
Shaping, crimping, cutting, trimming,
A shape, a tiny mind observing,
Like a train, there’s no swerving,
Karma coming, priests are drumming,
The mind of a child, a growing thing,
Marred and twisted by every thing
The monuments of irresponsibility
Pyramids to egotism, narcissism,
Spirits of the pharaohs, annihilation.

Great distance or a narrows,
Life and love, spirits of the pharaohs,
Lover’s lane, or faraway plain,
The irony, its all a game,
Choices are made
And teams are chosen
And fates are woven,
And turns are played.

Trumps and turnips
Turned earth turning the meek
Have you found the happiness you seek?
Did you see the chaos wrought?
Ghouls and vampires,
Mummy walking, talking,
Breathing, slowly stalking,
Riddles of the Sphinx
Undead question,
Cold calculation of
Midnight suggestion,
Riding, sliding,
Through the rubble,
Eris laughing, chaos double.

Trumps and turnips
Turned earth turning the meek
Have you found the happiness you seek?
Did you see the chaos wrought?
Choices are made
And teams are chosen
And fates are woven,
And turns are played.
Choices are made
And teams are chosen
And fates are woven,
And turns are played.

Dante's Revenge

The lyrical tradition
Often entails sowing sedition
When things are like unto
The nine layers of hell,
And you can't even tell
If evil is literal or
Metaphorical anymore.
Some say its human nature
But Hell couldn't be any worse
Than the atrocity we spread
In the end, like the philosopher said
Tis only the quick and the dead
Who have seen the end to this curse
Human nature at its worst, in verse,
Sewing hate, fear, misery, and war.
Hate, anger, greed, disdain in
The poor's greatest time of need,
As they pocket their millions
From the suffering of billions,
And the devil laughs all the way
To the bank, the only one to thank
Is ourselves for lazy complacency
In the face of obvious amoral tyranny
The poet is laughing at the irony.

Orwellian

If you haven't had
your swine-flu shot
If you try to run you'll
Be caught, get your RFID today
If you don't then you will pay.

Big brother says you
Must have your vaccination,
Don't try to run,
Don't try to go on vacation.

If you haven't had
your swine-flu shot
If you try to run you'll
Be caught, get your RFID today
If you don't then you will pay.

Raid your house and
Hold you down, doctor says
With a frown, Hold still
While I violate your civil rights
Terrify you, lay awake at nights

If you haven't had
your swine-flu shot
If you try to run you'll
Be caught, get your RFID today
If you don't then you will pay.

Built By Time

In a sunset,
Hunter's moon,
With gables,
Backlit,
Painted
Children's faces,
Begging candies
Or a boon,
We feel
An autumn chill,
And thank God,
For his
Small graces
With winter
Coming soon.

Short-bread cookies,
Pumpkin pie,
Oktoberfest and
Leiderhosen.
Hard apple-cider,
Dopple-bock beer,
In alcohol
We drown our fear,
The winter snows
Will soon be here,
And shiver, we dare,
In the cold
Mountain air,
Will the cold stay
Forever, or will
Spring come again?

Bringing love
And dancing,
And hot-blooded
Romancing,
Or has winter
Set forever
Like a shroud
Over our life?
In lonely
Silent snow
We ponder and
We pine,
And sit
In regret
And slowly
Sip our wine.
Wishing for
The energy of
Youth, with
The wisdom
Built by time.
