At a Melbourne meet last year we had peeps from Qld, NSW and NZ

a lot of us come in via train from the suburbs, then at least you dont have to worry about parking.
You could park at the Casino, or maybe even Arts centre but it would pay to check how much it will cost beforehand so you dont get a nasty shock!
there are also some private car parks in the area, again not sure of the prices. Melways will give you a good idea on how close they are to the corner of Flinders and Swanston St
Nearly all parking in the city is $12 for saturday and the same for sunday.. The best car park is at federation square, it is close to everything.

add the citylink toll onto that plus petrol and it works out much cheaper on the train unless you can share a ride.
