The Ten Commandments of Dating

There are many unspoken rules when it comes to dating, and as times have changed, so have these rules. Dates are the perfect chance to present yourself in the best possible light and to prove that chivalry is not dead. Remember that dating is about having fun and getting to know someone, so just relax and follow these simple rules.

Safety First

Protect yourself. Hopefully, you have chosen someone you feel comfortable with to go on a date, but keep in mind that you might not know this person as well as you think you do. Meet in a public place and tell your family and friends the time and place you are meeting and when you expect to be home.

Be able to pay for the date. Although it is customary for men to pay on dates, especially on the first date, do not assume that this is going to be the case. Offer to go dutch and split the bill, and leave it to him to decide whether to pay for it all or not. Likewise men, she might not feel comfortable with you paying for everything, so do not be offended if she insists on paying half.

Be a gentleman or gentlewoman. While the rules on paying may have changed in recent years, most women still appreciate chivalry in a date. You gain significant brownie points if you hold open the door and pull out her chair for her before she sits down. Women should express thanks for chivalrous behavior.

Date Plans

Make it fun. Some things don't change over time, and dinner and a movie is still one of the best ways to get a date off on the right foot. If you see the movie first, it gives you an extra subject to talk about at dinner. Find out what your date's interests are and plan a date around one of them.

Ask Questions

Get to know each other. There is nothing worse than someone who won't stop talking about themselves. Ask questions of your date and show an interest in his answers.

Understand that it is a fair assumption that the question "Do you want to come back to my place for coffee?" is code for sex or at least for some heavy petting.

Make an Effort

Put on your best clothes, get your hair done and wear that perfume or aftershave that you save for special occasions. You only get one chance for a good first impression, so make an effort to look your best and, hopefully, you will feel good and be filled with confidence.

Friends Stay Home

Never, ever bring a friend along with you as it sends a mixed message to your date and creates an awkward atmosphere. Likewise, never devise a scheme to "bump into" a friend while out as it will most likely look transparent and make you look insecure. Seek moral support before or after the date.

Leave Your Past Behind You

Thou shalt not make reference to any of your exes. The mere mention of en ex might make your date feel uncomfortable or make your date think that you are still hung up on the person. By all means tell funny stories about you and your buddies, but leave the exes out of them.

Be Yourself

Be yourself and be honest with your date. Of course you want to present yourself in the best light, but always tell the truth and never put on airs and graces since any falsehoods are bound to have repercussions down the line.

I really needed to share this because I had no idea what dating was about. I hope this helps someone else

Really like reading through the list.... full of sensible and real life advice that absolutely makes sense... Like it so much that I’m going to save it for reading again at another time... Doesnt hurt to remind one’s self , once in a while, of the good advice it contains.
Being in a relationship is a full time job,so if you are not ready
to work hard and save it it then don't
apply for it
