I am an American journalist who has lived in Europe, mostly the Mediterranean, for a long time. I am now semi-retired, working as a freelance editor of fiction and non-fiction. Even though I make my living as a writer, I'm not very good at describing myself. I enjoy people enormously, but don't suffer fools gladly. I am very outgoing, but also appreciate solitude, especially on long walks in the mountains -- especially the Camino de Santiago.
I have been separated now for 12 years, but am not a born bachelor. I would like to do something about that, but am in no way desperate to do so. As they say, it's better to be alone than with the wrong person.
I can't see profiles written by other men, so I haven't a clue what they say about themselves. But I have read hundreds of descriptions by women about what they are looking for, and all I can say is that most of you are living in a fantasy world. I could never come close to meeting half the requirements I read, and I doubt there are many men who could. So I just present myself as I am -- reasonably intelligent, with a sharp wit and a playful, self-deprecating sense of humour; a romantic who still won't give up on it. Not ideal, far from perfect -- but very genuine.
