More About Me

I've been on a self-imposed dating hiatus the last several years for a number of reasons. I made a drastic career change to embrace my passion and enable my workaholic nature.

I've discovered that in building my new career I'm learning some pretty amazing things and my losses have taught me that life is too short to do this alone. I’d love to find someone to share my new direction and passion for food and wine. But, I need to be honest. especially opening a new restaurant. My free time is limited and I'm very protective of it. I'm used to being solitary - ciúnas gan uaigneas....

However, I am open to a cure for my workaholism and willing to share my solitude.

Chivalry is not dead, at least not here. I pride myself on being a gentleman and enjoy being a hopeless romantic. I believe in giving flowers, sometimes, just because you're pretty. I give a mean foot massage, notice a good hair day and always put the seat down (lid too, for that matter). I adore dogs and they seem to instinctively know it. I'm great with kids, charming to parents and very kind to the wait staff. Win my heart and you'll discover who teaches Labrador retrievers to be loyal. If I won the lottery, I'd likely share most of it with friends and family. I'm quixotic, punctilious, like to read and to learn new things. I've a gift for trivia from 80s song lyrics to movie lines to obscure biological factoids. Ask me to describe how earthworms move.

I am fastidiously neat about my sock drawer, but my desk is messy. I hate the telephone; yet always have one with me. I won't tolerate smudges and fingerprints on shiny surfaces, but don't dust often enough. I am frequently frustrated and vexed by the sheer stupidity and discourteous behavior I witness every day, especially while driving. I refuse to abbreviate when I text message. I love new places, but loathe the act of traveling. And, I'm set enough in my ways to know that I'll do without rather than settle.

More About my Match

I'm not looking for the "perfect" woman. It's not so much the qualities or characteristics of the woman as it is what she, just by being herself, faults and all, stirs in me. I want the complexities, the differences and the unpredictability. I want the discovery of all those things and relish the process. (Sinatra singing "I Wish I Were in Love Again" keeps going through my head as I type this.)

I guess I'm looking for a specific reaction more than a specific woman. While I find intelligence and an inquisitive mind an amazing turn-on, ultimately, I seek two things: honesty and chemistry. I want a woman that will evoke my passion and my romanticism. I want that feeling when you completely click with someone, when that person "fits" and you know it with every fiber of your being.

I love movies and can't seem to get enough horror, even the terribly awful ones; but I prefer classics like "The Maltese Falcon," The Big Sleep" and "Casablanca." I long for the greater sense of romanticism in the 40s and a time when women wore hats. Have you seen the movie "Bedazzled?" While it's by no means a great flick, the ending gives me pause. The hero and his new ladylove are walking in a park and the entire world speeds up around them. The symbolism is priceless for us hopeless romantics. If you get this, if you want this and if you believe two people can have this, we should talk.

In the end, I want the cliché of being totally, overwhelmingly in love.

There's a scene from "Four Weddings and a Funeral" in which Hugh Grant's character talks about why he is still single. His friend tells him it's because he is waiting for a "thunderbolt." I suppose I am as well.
