More About Me

hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. ~ I sympathize with Number 6. I am science minded, well-mannered, and even-tempered, pragmatic as well as rational, and an unconventional thinker. I am a Realist and seek objective perception; the glass (with water in it) is half-full because it has been filled to that level, half-empty because it has been drained to that level, at the half-way line when there is no beginning point of reference. Notwithstanding, I have a fondness for Buddhism (especially Mahayana), Taoism, and obscured but valid knowledge hidden within many other spiritual traditions, such as that which may be found within ancient Hindu, Hebrew, and Christianity. I like classical music, Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major is a favorite, especially the second movement (the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam's 1974 performance of it is inspiring); enjoy also rock, rockabilly, jazz, techno, trance, industrial, ambient, any numerous other music genres. I'm a sci-fi enthusiast, but prefer plots, whether in book or film, that have a basis crafted from something which seems like it could be drawn from the sciences (especially cutting-edge or fringe science); notwithstanding, I'm practically grounded and I do not live and breath sci-fi. I am a practitioner and teacher of Aikido, and I've authored several books about it. My demeanor is typically pleasant and practical. If you are interested in conversation about the matters of life you must be ready for significant, in-depth conversation about many different topics. I prefer direct statement that is appropriate for the conversational circumstance. So, if you haven't guessed yet, I'm not a hedonist. My sense of humor, well, is sometimes playful, sometimes sarcastic, sometimes penetrating.

"Likes" are not conversation, visits to my profile are not conversation; and please, initial conversation must occur via this site.

More about my Match

If you would like to to develop an understanding of a common purpose, which can be the basis for cooperative effort and further interaction, conversation about the matters of life will be necessary; acquaintanceship, then friendship. Therefore, please suggest or write about any socially reasonable topic IN YOUR FIRST MESSAGE. If you can't think of any, here are a number of interesting topics:

1. First, a little mystery. Who was "Number 6," and what is the portent of his overall statement for Western society as it evolved out of his performance in his role as a socio-political prisoner? (In Europe, Number 6 was an unwanted type of "danger" for society.)
2. Who is the poet that I quote in my headline and opening sentence?
3. From your thought, what are some of the characteristics of the human condition?
4. What is the importance of an unbiased understanding of human history toward the shaping of humanity's future; and, can any person or group of persons arrive at such an understanding, i.e., an unbiased one?
5. What are immutable truths?
6. What type of socio-political impediments, restrictions, and problems are present for people living within a society; and, how do any of these interfere with their ability to perceive an immutable truth?
7. How are the socially derived and evolved concepts of trust, freedom, and loyalty interconnected? And, how is this interconnection applicable to relationships between people?
8. In a society, what type of signs (social-political signals, i.e., events) can emerge that warn citizens of a beginning or an insidious creeping reduction of freedom and privacy?
9. What does an ever-increasing prevalence of surveillance by government signify?
10. What circumstances in life require secrecy?
11. What is the meaning or significance of life, in the general sense, if you think there is any at all?
12. From whence do you come, where are you now, and to where will you go?

Thank you for visiting :-)

Norwegian, Scottish, French; some Neanderthal and E.T., too :-)

Biology, Marine Zoology, Chemistry, and Electronics. Aikido.

Always inquiring about nature/life and my relationship with it. Though baptized in the Lutheran tradition, I align best as an agnostic who seeks the elusive, immutable truths.

Author/Writer. Teacher of Aikido, too.
