More About Me
I think oceans and coasts are some of the most beautiful and majestic places on Earth, and now that I am retired I spend time exploring, photographing... but mainly just enjoying these areas. Not just in Australia and New Zealand... but that's a good start. In my younger days I was an active and enthusiastic campaigner for the protection of wild places, but now I don't have the energy for any major commitment of that kind. I do however still have my website (onlyoneplanet) which was developed specifically to provide scientists and campaigners with environmental information. These days the only new material on the site relates to my yacht. Years ago one of my friends described me as "loving, amusing and sexy". I think I'm still loving and sometimes amusing. You would need to judge the rest for yourself. I am not good looking. But I value a loving heart, and try to surround myself with friends who treat others kindly and intelligently.
I bought a cruising yacht in 2010, and over the last few years it has been based either in Hobart (Australia) or in Whangarei (New Zealand). Now that I'm older I prefer smaller rather than larger... in both cities and parties!
Although I don't consider myself eccentric, some of my friends do think I'm a little strange. For example, I don't watch TV, or read newspapers. My diet is fairly ordinary (I do eat meat, but not a lot) except that I rarely drink anything other than water.
More About my Match
Although my yacht has been a huge part of my life, this will not continue indefinitely, and I foresee that I will settle down on land quite soon... but where, and doing what... I'm just not sure. But I would like to meet someone who is comfortable with being on the ocean, even out of sight of land. Maybe this is asking too much... Anyhow, don't let this put you off, please. My ideal girl does NOT have to be a sailor. I'm looking for a partner who is loving, has a good sense of humour, intelligence, a love for nature and animals, is generally calm rather than excitable, and physically fit. And someone who understands the language of touch. My yacht Ocean Child One runs a blog, with a heap of information about where she's been, and what she thinks of her skipper. This may be of interest... so I suggest you check it out before contacting me... and let me know what you think. It's easy to find if you are connected to the internet. Just search for "the adventures of Ocean Child".
Occupation
Before retiring I worked as an environmental scientist, mainly on aquatic conservation issues. My key interests were the creation of freshwater reserves to protect habitat, and the amelioration of the environmental impact of wild marine fisheries.
