Thank you Mysti,
He was one of the most creative in that period. Most of his work depicted Proverbs of the day which are now lost or forgotten. I had spent many hours trying to understand what he was saying; without success I may add.
My favourite painting of his is not on the video, it is called 'The Misantrophie' or 'Mantraps'. A rare and fascinating genious.
Thank you again B
hug thumbs up

Nope ,,not for me ,I suppose they are interesting ,but I do not find them beautiful in any way....I much prefer old ***Van dyck ,infact all dutch masters,,, ***not the guy in Mary Poppins
Mysticalli

Bosch is a Dutch master too grin

But I understand that his works can be disturbing for some. comfort
lipsee
Mysticalli I really do,nt know nothing about Bosch (except he,s good with dishwashers,,)when he was born or died, nothing...the time I am interested in is 16/17th centuries,,,also I love Maritime art especially the English/Dutch wars....
lipsee
but I ain,t no expert!!! as you have no doubt gathered....
Mysticalli
I´m not an expert either. Just an amateur admirer of some painters. laugh

Hi Mysti,
you are of course right, I had mistaken the three Bruegels,Bosch,Grunewald and another half dozen LOL.
That is not the 'Misantrope' I was referring to but it is on the same lines and akin to 'the blind leading the blind' another work by the guy 'whose name I can't remember'.
Most of these images were created around the time of the great plague and religious reform in Europe. When satire, vulgarity and morals were depicted under the guise of religious art. Fascinating stuff,
Thanks again, B

Hi Lipsee, their beauty lies in the creativity of the minds which created them, I wont go near that word technique.
Kinda telling us 'aint we glad not to have been born then' although nothing has changed since, lol

Mysticalli

never heard of Grunewald before... wow I´m learning something new today yay Thanks a lot! bouquet This is superb:

have you heard about the contemporary artist Dave Patchett? His works reminds me of Bosch´s.

Now I like that!! much better then old bosch(sorry Mysty) can you see me and FBF in the attic having a snog????
Ahwell

Hi Mysti, I've had a look at both your tags above. Daves work I find a bit innocuous and pastel, lacking any great drama but basically I suppose masterpieces in their own right: Whereas Grunewald- almost every brush stroke can be felt or rather sensed being applied. The tonal quality creates pure drama and the play of lights 'dance' ones eyes around the picture. lacking in Daves I think.

no worries, lipsee. Bruegel is influenced by Bosch. Maybe that´s why his works are great too.

I agree with you on Dave´s works. He needs some more improvement... But he´s on the right way, I think.
