Santa's Sleigh Game Tips
Here is a completed puzzle:
Note the following:
- All santas have 1 sleigh (each santa has a sleigh next to him either vertically or horizontally)
- No sleighs are next to each other (vertically, horizonally, or diagonally)
- The total number of sleighs on each row or column matches the number marked on that row or
column
Here's how to win the game shown above:
Below we show step-by-step how a sample game is played and won. When you play the game, the santa's will be distributed different than this. So this is just an example.
1. This is how the Game will look to begin with:
2. First, find all the rows and columns marked "0" and fill them in with snow (since there cannot be any sleighs on a row or column marked "0"):
3. Next, look at the last column marked "3". It has 3 sleighs, and based on where the santas are we can place the sleighs. Fill the rest of the squares in with snow (since they won't have sleighs).
4. Next, look at the 3rd-to-last column that is marked "3". We know where the 3 sleighs go based on where the santas are. Fill the rest of the squares in with snow.
5. Look at the 4th row down marked "2". We have already placed 2 sleighs on that row so we can fill the rest of the squares in that row with snow.
6. Now look at the 1st row marked "1". We have already placed 1 sleigh on that row, so we can fill the rest of the squares in that row with snow.
7. The 2nd row down marked "3" has 1 sleigh already placed, and needs 2 more. We know where the sleighs go based on where the santas are. Fill the remaining squares in with snow.
8. The very last row is marked "2". We have 1 sleigh down, so we need to place another one. There's only one santa around that needs a sleigh, so we place the sleigh next to him in that row, and fill the rest of the squares in that row with snow.
9. We have 2 rows left and 3 santas that need sleighs. Remember that the sleighs cannot be next to each other. Based on that information, we can place 1 sleigh below the santas and 2 sleighs above the santas so that the sleighs are not next to each other. And the game is won.
