Billy Kay has written a great account of the Scots and their contribution to the world. Kay's writing is personal, entertaining and full of interesting facts. Did you know that a Scotsman is considered a hero of the Russian Revolution, and his name, John Maclean, is inscribed in Lenin's tomb? Or that the playwright Lermontov and the composer Grieg both had Scottish antecedents? (Lermontov was Learmonth in Scots and Grieg/Greig is a good Scots name.) We can forgive the unabashedly proud Kay for his prose because, all in all, he proves to be a humble man, writing not a history, but a story of the Scottish diaspora. I could go on and on, but I'm going to suggest that you enjoy Billy Kay's book yourself!
