There is a lot of truth, as well as a lot of fiction, in this book. My family has had some history with the Knights Templar for generations, and I was raised with the "open secret" that Jesus was the first Christian Gnostic and that the Holy Grail was actually Mary Magdalene herself... and that, when she died, the title was passed on to a single Priestess in each generation afterwards. This was because Jesus always intended for women to wield power in His vision of how His Church should be, as much as men. Priestesses, as well as Priests. Neither were supposed to have been required to be celibate either! It is never said whether Jesus was the father of the Magdalene Bloodline as we call it in my family, nor is it denied either. That itself is another secret, actually. What is known is that when the old bloodline grew "too thin" to continue, a new Priestess in each generation was chosen from outside the bloodline based on tests of virtue and worthiness in true Arthurian tradition. I kid you not! The Grail Maiden (In reality the most current incarnation of the Grail Herself) was by tradition the High Priestess of the Gnostic branch of the Knights Templar (at least the branch my family was part of), and it is also said that Baphomet was an idol depicting the Gnostic Godddess Sophia who is the female aspect of God. It was not a horned goat, but a white "goddess" statue of a beautiful hermaphrodite-like angel with ten wings and a "horned" crecent moon in her hair. This was destroyed to keep it from the hands of the Church on that Friday the 13th. when the Templars were rounded up and unjustly punished for crimes they did not commit. Largely, so that the Church could silence them, steal their lands, and take their gold. This is what my family passes down, and that is what I myself believe. I will teach the same to my own children, if I ever have any... and until then, I will teach others what I was permitted to pass on. Research Gnosticism and its' connection to the Knights Templar and compare it to Arthurian tradition. You will be amazed at what you can discover, even for yourself, doing so!
