I think it's assumed that women are mothers and nurturing by nature and raising kids should be a no-brainer. The truth is that its a tough job and not everyone is up to the task or does it well. Because these assumptions are made, the very human mistakes that single moms make are unfairly magnified.
With men, the perception is that any single dad involved with his child is a good dad. That's an equally damaging perception of single dads; the idea that a man is involved with his child's life should not be a given, but an assumption. There should not be anything extraordinary about a man totally engaging himself with and being responsible for his child. It's as if single dads should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for doing what they ought to be doing anyway.
The best way to counteract these negative paradigms is to start support parents equally, regardless of gender. We should help make all parents heroes, and they should want to be heroes to their children.
This blog was what I needed in a way that only God knows. It really gives a person something to think about. Giving hope and something to look forward to along the way. Thank you so very much for sharing it. "He has plans to prosper us, and not to harm us.”
Mary, You are the only one in God's creation with your set of natural abilities! I've been reading your blogs for a few months now and just wanted to comment on how much your writing has meant to me. I pretty much enjoy reading whatever you write here, so write whatever you want. :) Keep up the wonderful work, keep getting better.

RE: Sometimes moms have to be dads
Interesting words. It’s a big challenge being a single Dad, too, although people tend to forget that many of them exist as well.
And you’re right it takes a lot of strength and resolve to get through for any single parent – that’s for sure.
