RE: What Happens when you google your user ID?

Well that is the good and the bad of the Internet.

Nothing can be considered as safe from being open for all to see when you do it on line.

It might interest you to know that there is also a site that saves old pages and web sites as an archive to preserve them for prosperity. So even if you delete your profile it will live on somewhere stored on the web forever.

That's why they can show you a web address you can use to link to any of these pages to show them on any site or place you might want to share them. They are open HTML documents and available for all to find if they know how to search for them.

Just copy the address of this page and past it into the search window of Google, Yahoo, MSN or any of the other search engines and you will find it listed. To be more direct just copy and past it into a newly opened window in IE or FireFox and it will take you there.

The only part of this site that you can consider as "somewhat" private is the email but even that is probably saved somewhere. I never think that anything I do, say, or see on the web is safe from being found out either by searching or following the user tracks that exist.

So in the end the greatest reason for our having any privacy on the net is because few people have any reason to search us out. It's privacy by lack of interest not by design. It's the very reason that those of us who work with the web (or net if you prefer) complain so hard about tracking cookies and malware is that it's a true invasion of privacy of a most personal nature.

So remember that what we do is open to all if they want to look for it.

Frank
