Well, this is a fact that we are pumping all the CO2 back to the aptmosphere, which nature has burried during the ice age. When we finish puping all the CO2 by burning which can be burned back to the atmospehere, another ice age will begin since the thermal balance works this way.
So you are suggeting that, you are going to buy something from eBay or elsewhere and wait 3 months to have it, or, you are going to wear your favorite suit for a very important meeting on a rainy day and use your "favorite" bicycle to get to work, or, are you willing to pay 17 to 22 times more money for a cellphone, computer, navigation system, a CD, TV set to see it completely recycled after use.
I rather be realistic about this. People talk about intelligence life forms in our universe. They build up their ideas on the fact that the universe is too big to exist just for human race. The point which they are missing is we are at the very beginning of our development. The universe will be the home of our race in 1000 - 2000 years and people of that time will remember this planet as a rampage and maybe even heal it with their current technology and convert it into a MUSEUM? How knows?
So, yes, maybe we will have hard times before we start spreading ourselves into the space, but we will have a great motivation to do it, Global Warming!
