The proximity of NZ (I'm from there) to the South Pole, is similar to that of the UK to the North Pole, so you don't need to plan as though you were going to Tierra del Fuego or the Gobi Desert. If you are going to NZ in the winter (May-September) dress more or less as you would for a UK winter. If you are going to NZ in the summer (October-April), again, you can pretty much expect similar weather patterns to those you might get in a UK summer. Remembering of course that NZ is an archipelago like the UK, so has similar unsettled climactic patterns. Cheers,
