UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL. For starters the Irish people dont need the British to show or teach them anything,or how to run their country. Look at the Republic of Irelands success in running their own affairs, How can anyone be ashamed of the rising in 1916. Those "united men and women" in 1916 were not afraid to give their lives for Ireland and for Irish citizens. Quite prepared to die in the fighting. They were not thinking of themselves alone,but only for a better deal and a better country run by Irish people, for Irish people "AND THATS WHAT THE RISING WAS ABOUT" And whether or not it achieved its purpose,can be clearly seen by looking at Northern Ireland, still under British rule and unfortunatly will stay that way for a long long time.The place is a dump, the people in it are divided, and thats the way the British left it, so as the people could never be united. And untill the people in the north become a united people,and untill that happens, we will never know, So be proud of 1916,and of any body who gave their lives for others,what about Jesus, didnt he also give his life for others. The Irish hunger strikers,didnt they give there lives for others. How many British politicians or Irish politicians would give their lives for others? None.
