Depends on how you start communication. If you just drop the boring sentence of "how are you" and "I'd like to know you", you'll probably not get response. Imagine how would you like to be contacted at the beginning. What would you like to be told at first. Try it then with someone you find interesting and inspirative for you. Don't send messages to everyone. Find your type and do it properly. I wish you all the best.

Dont blame yourself entirely,alot of the profiles on this site arent active,in fact some havent been active for over a year.I brought this up on a forum once and people jumped all over me,some people dont take the online dating seriosly. Rich

Try another pic. The profile one folding arms, doesn't give me a good feeling for approach. Great start on profile, in what u are looking for. People are real, u just need to sift through the ones that arent.

I agree that we don't have people who take this line seriously and not sure I understand that in a person. Why would anyone put a profile on here and not be serious about it? A good question.
