Ben-Hur Movie (1959)
When a Jewish prince is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend, he regains his freedom and comes back for revenge.
Judah Ben-Hur lives as a rich Jewish prince and merchant in Jerusalem at the beginning of the 1st century. Together with the new governor his old friend Messala arrives as commanding officer of the Roman legions. At first they are happy to meet after a long time but their different politic views separate them. During the welcome parade a roof tile falls down from Judah's house and injures the governor. Although Messala knows they are not guilty, he sends Judah to the galleys and throws his mother and sister into prison. But Judah swears to come back and take revenge.

Benhur narrates the story of the king of Judea who is taken as aslve by his Roman friend.Charleton Heston(late)plays the role of King of judea.This movie must be 50 years old but a classic one.Even with the advent of digital technology no film has come close to directing another Benhur.The chariot race is very memorable and the camera movement is such that u feel as if u are inside the chariot.Ben hurs life in the ship as an oars man is also a tough shot.The rowing of the ship in tandem with the beats of the drums,Ben Hur asking permission from the Roman soldiers to allow him to feed Jesus Christ whose face is concealed,Ben Hur finding his mother and sister afflicted with leprosy after they were thrown away by his friend into the streets,his mother and sister regaining normalacy immediately after the ressurection are the memorable scenes in the movies.Also the death scene of his friend who is vanquished in the horse race by Ben Hur.He asks his men to kill him because the pain was unbearable.GLADIATOR movie comes close to this movie but I would rate BEN HUR as a better made movie than GLADIATOR though the theme is very similar.
