For My Kids

Tomorrow's just another day away
Just another sleepless night
If you saw me what would you say
I can't change what's wrong to right

And if our paths happen to cross
Like two clouds passing in the sky
The moment always gets lost
We always come to good bye

But hold on to tomorrow
Even though it may never come
Lay down all your hopes dreams and sorrows
On this blanket of love

And if you ever find that you need me
In the middle of the night
Send up a signal to reach me
And bring me into your light

Life Lesson?

Two farmers were walking through a cotton field when they paused to look down at the plants. The first one said to the second..."see the two boweevils on that cotton boll?" The second farmer said "yeah what about 'em?" The first farmer asked "If they were to fight which one would win?" The second farmer got a puzzled look on his face and said "I suppose the big one on the left." The first farmer straightend up and said to the second "Wrong. You should always chose the lesser of two weevils."

It's a video...get over it!

This is probably going to piss some people off (and this is not directed at any particular person fyi) but I have to say it, so here goes:

While I agree it is stupid, bigoted, and shameful to put out hurtful words, cartoons, even videos that mock another's culture or religion, it's time that some people put on their big boy and big girl pants and get over it.

Just the other day some idiot put a crucifix (Catholic Christian sacred symbol for those of you who do not know) in a jar of urine and put it on display as art. Do you see christians all over the world rioting, burning flags, blaming entire nations, attacking embassies, or killing innocent people over it? No you don't, do you?

Am I offended? Yes, I am. But you know what? I would rather die defending the idiots right to say what he or she wants and display "offensive" "art" than live in a society where we are told what we can and cannot say.

I am sorry for the pain anyone might be feeling that was caused by some idiot on youtube, but this in no way justifies any kind of violence.

The Gift

Each of us is born with the same gift, well not exactly the same. Some are given more, some less, but in essence it is the same gift. I don't think that I recognized this until a few years ago.

When you realize your gift it can be a bit unnerving because you see it is without a doubt finite and you don't know how much of it is left. You begin to realize how much of it you have wasted and you wonder how much of it remains. Even though the gift is finite the ways to measure it are infinite.

Now I'm quite sure that everyone has a different reaction when they come to recognize the gift and I can only speak to mine. The realization it seems came in the form of a fork in the road so to speak. I had to choose which path to travel. One was smooth and comfortable much like a freshly paved highway. There were no bumps, no unexpected turns. It was clearly marked and easy to travel. The other was rough and full of bumps and ruts like a dirt path through a country meadow it was not on any map and I had no idea where it would lead. This was when I realized what the gift was that we are all born with and that I had to decide how to spend the rest of mine.

I'm not sure if I made the right decision or not but I chose the path through the country meadow...the travel has been difficult so far but when I look behind me I start to notice that I have been leaving footprints and this somehow gives me peace. Perhaps one day my children will recognize this path and it will somehow help them.

One thing is certain. I feel good about how I am spending the remainder of my gift. Although the path I have chosen is sometimes hard, the beauty I have discovered along the way makes the uncertainty worth while.

How much remains of my gift? Who knows? tic toc...tic toc...tic toc...
